I finished Meteor Garden. So much love.
Feb. 19th, 2006 08:33 pmOMG! Angst! DMS tried to slit his wrists!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK, more coherently. The last two eps are so, soooooo good. I already wrote about Shi Mein and Shiao You shippiness, but just have to say, this girl is so going to develop a thing for emotionally unavailable men. Heck, I'd do the same because I'd fall for him.
How adorable that SC was all worried DMS didn't want to live in her 'poor' neighborhood and missed him and it turned out he was just trying to sneak past the guards. They are so adorable.
And I already wrote up about their date (they are such babes in the woods, trying those disguises that fool no one). But I love how he freaks out that his mom found out and is 'on the move' and she tries to convince him and herself that this isn't true even though she is so sick with worry too. And they both pretend to believe it for the sake of the other, even though neither does.
And then they have their money-less date (and hold hands) and he walks her home and he asks her for a kiss and she kisses him on the cheek and runs in so happy. And then he has the oddest, set look on his face and goes "come out, I know you are there" and his mother's goons come swarming out and so much of his behavior at the date makes sense as he tells them he knew they were there since the pet shop. And he tells them they can do stuff to him but if they harm Shan Cai he will kill them. And I melt into a huge goo puddle when I realize he pretended everything was fine so she won't be worried and won't get hurt and involved and he knew how hopeless it was. OMG.
And they drag him home and he slashes his wrists and trashes everything in the room. And his mom keeps him locked up under guard and sets the wedding with fiancee. And he refuses to eat and drink and they have to keep him sedated and put IV into him and it's horrid and he fights them and so much angst. And Lei comes back and F3 try to break into the house to get DMS out (they are such good friends) but they fail. And SC finds out from fiancee about DMS starving himself, basically to death (I love the scene where Auntie Jade, the batty old housekeeper tries to convince him to eat and drink and he is just lying there, too weak to move and being all quiet and steady and refusing). And fiancee begs SC to give up on DMS or he will die.
And in a scene that I love, SC says she will go to the house and F3 are all "what can you do?" and SC replies "every other time, DMS came for me. This time I am going to come for him." And she goes there and Momster allows her to talk to DMS (to tell him to eat, because sedation and IVs don't work so well and she is evil but she doesn't want her son to die, after all), but she won't allow poor star-crossed lovers to see each other, so one guard goes inside DMS' room and puts him by the door and another guard stands next to SC on the other side of the door and DMS doesn't really have any strangth to stand so he is kinda collapsed in a heap on the floor and then he hears SC's voice and I love the look on his face and she asks him how he is and he says 'never better.' And SC asks him to give up and he says he won't, because if he gave up the first time she left him, he wouldn't have her after all. And she tells him if he won't give up, she won't either and she will wait for him and they are both cryingand I am sniffling too.
And she walks downstairs and confronts the mother and tells her that DMS won't give up and she is going to wait for him, and she will do for him what he does for her. And she won't eat or drink until he does. And she will stay outside the house until he comes out to her. And she walks out with a set face and she just stands outside, the whole day and night, not moving, in the pouring rain. And Mom and Big Sis have a huge fight and in the morning, Mom has left and taken the guards with her. And Auntie Jade comes out to fetch SC and I love the scene of DMS in his room, moving really weakly and pulling IV out of his arm and then he raises his eyes and sees Shan Cai right there and Oh. My. God. And he looks at her and tells he can't walk and she stumbles towards him and falls into his arms and half-faints as he strokes her hair. So much love.
And I love the last scene where they are walking outside and doing their friendly fighting thing again (their marriage life really will be sex-fight-making up, sex-fight-making up etc) and she tells him "No matter what, don't you dare to ever hurt yourself again" and he tells her "I thought I was going to die and I was scared" and she asks why and he glares and goes "What are you, an idiot? I never heard you tell me you like me. I didn't want to die not hearing it." And she is all "why do you need to hear it?" and then mumbles it and it's adorable and he is all "what, you can't just blurt it out in the middle of the conversation. Repeat it." and she is "you didn't hear it, not my fault." And then she turns around and has this huge grin on her face and tells him, looking straight at him "I like you" and he smiles and runs and picks her up and...
I. Love. This. Show.
And we end on them strolling hand in hand.
In some ways, DMS, even though he was kinda childlike in some respects, was the most mature of F4s when it came to relationships. Definitely one with the strongest feelings. Though I kinda felt for Shi Mein, even if he went to playboying at the end. But still, one half of my secondary ship :)
And Shan Cai? It took so long for DMS to win her, but when he finally did? She really went to bat for him. They are perfect for each other.

Date: 2006-02-20 02:25 am (UTC)I guess they are one of those couples that fight all the time and it all slides off them like water from a duck's back and everyone else is just amused watching from the sidelines.
I am so amused at his three friends' attitude to the main male character. It's a very affectionate and amused "Well, he is an idiot but he is OUR idiot" :P

Date: 2006-02-20 02:33 am (UTC)There are plenty of voluable and volatile anime couples that would have that cycle. Inu/Kagome, Orphen/Cleo, Sano/Megumi... Anime couples are either volatile or one member of the couple is too sweet natured or laid back to be provoked. The couple that both members are normal is rare, though not unheard of (Zechs/Noin, Amon/Robin)

Date: 2006-02-20 02:45 am (UTC)But yes, a lot of the couples seem feisty :)

Date: 2006-02-20 02:52 am (UTC)If you have a normal couple though, there must be tragedy. No one is getting out of this genre unscathed. You've got to earn your happy ending. Or try to earn it and fail miserably (i.e. Hotohori)

Date: 2006-02-20 07:32 am (UTC)I'll settle for that.
on top of having the 3rd wheel in DMS-SC...argh!!
I am SO not watching MG2. Just the thought of this gives me...rage.
however, i love the Mei Zhou story in MG2.
what happened to him?

Date: 2006-02-20 04:36 pm (UTC)re: MZ in Mg2 - he gets a girl, and their little sub story is cute. :D plus vanness' hair is HOT there! (layered rather than the one length hair he had in Mg). :D
in Mg2 also, they show Xm's family more. i liked their stories (XM and MZ) in Mg2, the rest basically was pure pain in the hart. LOL!

Yeah, if I have to watch a love triangle with DMS and SC being two of the parties...no way. Plus, making Lei fall for SC annoys me. So no MG2 for me!
