dangermousieEeeeee! DMS came back from New York with gorgeous hair. And a magically improved fashion sense. And he has dimples. I am smitten.
One of my favorite scenes so far? Shan Cai returning, dog tired, from her part-time job to her new shabby place of residence and all of a sudden, she sees DMS standing right there (with gorgeous hair. At last!) on the street, waiting for her. And she grins from ear to ear and he looks at her intently. And she goes "didn't you go to New York for 2 years? How come you are back in two days?" and he looks at her, shyly, and responds "I...love Taiwan." OMG!cute. And she goes, still grinning "Idiot, what, are you running for office?" And they keep staring at each other. And he basicallly flew straight to NY because he couldn't get off the plane (his wanting to get off and his sis glomping him was hilarious) and then straight back. And he kinda slumps on the ground and she is all concerned (awww) and asks him if he is sick and he looks kinda defenseless and adorable as he responds that he's been flying for 30 hours straight and he has a huge headache and she thinks that wow, he flew right back after he flew there, just to be with her, and kinda melts. So do I.
And then her mother comes out of the house and before SC can say anything, her mom invites DMS to spend the night. In the same room with her daughter! (Why don't her parents just strip her naked and put her in his bed. Seriously, they are the wackiest parents ever. Yes, he is filthy rich but come onnnn). And DMS is kinda adorably (and jet-laggedly) out of it. And he asks her if she felt different when he was gone and as she hesitates, he goes "oh, it doesn't matter" because he doesn't want to be vulnerable and yet he couldn't help but ask. And he falls asleep smiling. Uber-aww.
And in the morning he drags her to the store with him to help him pick new clothes and she thinks they all look hot on him (and they do) and is really grumpy about the fact that she finds him hot so she keeps saying they all look bad. Seriously, SC, snap out of it. (Of course, she inexplicably picks the worst outfit of the bunch. Heh).
I adore DMS's sister, as she is hilarious mix of practicality and directness. I love when she comes back home (when DMS is all broken-hearted) and the following conversation ensues.
Butler: He's been smashing all the glass in the house. I am worried that the master's anique Chinese vase is going to be next.
Sister: You called me home because of this?
Butler: DMS's first love went really badly, after all...
Sister: We have such a wimp in the family. Oh well, draw me a bath. And send the French crystal I brought over to his room for him to smash.
I also love that even though DMS is agitating for SC and HZL to be thrown out of college, when SC says she will leave, he looks like he's been hit. The poor boy doesn't know what he wants. And then he finds her the night after the game that's to determine if she leaves or stays and tells her if she tells him she likes him, just once, he'll call the game off (because realistically, there is no way he can lose). And she doesn't and he is all angsty and crushed and asks her why it was his best friend? And they are adorable together. Silly, silly SC. And then of course Lei makes DMS jealous during the game on purpose, so they would win and SC could stay in school and poor DMS really looks like someone killed his puppy (and I love that when he sees that Lei's team will lose anyway, he quits the game because when push comes to shove, he can't bear to have SC expelled). And then of course after wandering the streets for hours he comes home to find out (as he thinks) that Lei and SC are consummating their 'love' in the guest house. And he sees her leave in the morning and he is crying. Awwwww.
And then of course he decides to go to NY and I love that SC just breaks down and is all distraught and she finds him and is yelling at him about why is he leaving and why didn't he tell her and she tells him she is crying because she is happy she will never see him again, and I think at that point everyone around them, except for SC and DMS realize how she feels (DMS looks even more hurt because he takes her words at their value). Awwww. And she runs off crying.
And I love Lei taking DMS aside at the airport, telling him that they didn't sleep together and that SC likes DMS. Cute. And I love that DMS decides to get off the plane and when he can't he just flies straight back. Super-awwww with a cherry on top.
I love that DMS lends her a $1m and doesn't want $$$ back. And that she brings a kid she has to babysit on their date. It's hilarious, because the kid wants to go to the zoo and DMS is really grumpy (and you realize what a big kid he is himself in those scenes, it's startling) and yet he ends up coming to the zoo with them and when the kid is tired and can't walk much but doesn't want to rest because the zoo is closing soon, he just scoops him up without words and just carries him around. Not only did my ovaries go into overdrive at hot guy with little kid, but I really think this sums up the character. He sucks at expressing his feelings verbally, but his actions really do speak louder than words. And then they end up walking back from the zoo, and DMS is carrying the sleeping kid, and he takes SC's hand and uber-awwww (unfortunately, then someone goes "what a young couple" and they drop their hand-holding. Bad!) And she tells him that the kid really looks kinda like him and he responds that he (DMS) is cuter. And then she asks him why is he so nice to her, especially since she betrayed him once (God, you are slow, woman!) and he kinda tries to evade answering and says the kid is heavy so can they walk on. But of course they end up fighting and she ends up flouncing off (I am getting mildly tired of her always putting the worst constuction on everything. He likes you, girl).
And then when he goes looking for her a few days later, he makes the bad situation worse when he sees her give her co-worker guy a purely platonic hug, but he doesn't know about the platonic part so he hits co-worker guy and calls her a slut (which is wrong of him, but considering she did betray him with a friend last time he tried not to jump to conclusions, I am cutting him some slack) and she blows up at him something major and tells him she never wants to see him again.
And then a hilarious scene with F3 making him practice his apology follows and when it comes to the word "sorry" he is just incapable. Heeee. And he says "why should he apologize, he never wants to talk to SC again" looking for all the world like a sulky 7 year old and then he sees SC and he looks like he would gladly die if he could only talk to her for two minutes. So adorable.
FAVE SCENE No. 2: And then of course the bad guy who SC thinks is a friend tries to take advantage of the rift and when DMS finds SC, the bad guy goads SC into telling DMS that she feels suffocated by him and to leave her alone. Well, woman, he might not be as jealous or concerned if he wasn't so insecure about where he stood with you. If you told him where he stood he wouldn't be constantly guessing and walking on eggshells. And then DMS stands there, all completely open and vulnerable, and not caring about the fact that the bad guy is mocking him and calling him annoying and tells SC (and I quote my wonky subtitles): I like you. I like you so much that even I think it's weird. I can see only you. I might be annoying but I want you to know that if you run away, I'll follow you, no matter where, even if it's hell. If you run to the edge of the world, I'll be there. I want you to know just one thing: that I want you.
And I just DIE. Oh. My. God. You silly woman, run to him and hug him and grab him. Argh. And he just basically laid his heart at her feet for her to stomp on. And the bad guy drags her off, and she is in a daze, going "DMS likes me" and he is left standing there all alone.
And then my VERY FAVORITE SCENE SO FAR comes up, because the bad guy and his gang kidnap SC and the truth comes out: he manipulated her to get to DMS whom he hates for some past slight (ditto for the gang). And the gang takes a polaroid of her gagged and tied up and send it to DMS who completely loses it and they call him and tell him to come back with their messenger, all alone and no police or SC will get it. And they let him talk to SC on the phone, and she yells for him not to come.
But then, he comes anyway, even after she's rejected him, and as she sits tied up (her gag has been removed), he walks into the shed with the 'guide,' his hands tied up. And he just looks and looks at SC. And the bad guy tells him (after his hands are untied) that "now your hands are untied so you can fight back if you want. But if you fight back, it's SC who will be hurt." And he holds a knife under SC's throat. And SC just looks at the scene with horror, helpless, and DMS sees her look and tells her not to look at him with that look and just close her eyes. And he is so gentle. Guuuuh. And then basically while the ringleader stands by SC with the knife, the other three guys methodically beat DMS, who makes no move to defend himself, into a bloody mess. And he keeps getting up. And the ringleader keeps taunting him "don't you want to hit us, you are known for fighting, come on" and DMS just looks at SC and lets his hands drop. And basically, he is borderline unconscious, yet he still tries to taunt them with words and then the ringleader takes his attention of SC for a moment to throw a heavy, nasty chair at DMS and SC manages to jump up, tied up, and shield DMS with her own body. And she glares at the gang so fiercely, and is shielding the barely conscious DMS so desperately that I wanted to take a step back. And the ringleader finally has enough and the gang leaves them.
And then both DMS and SC are slumped on the floor and she, freaking out, asks him "are you all right" and he, rather tiredly replies "No, I am not. My hand is broken and a few of my ribs." And she is worried sick about him and she starts berating him "Idiot, why didn't you fight back, you are so good at fighting!" and he whispers that "but if I fought back, I'd lose." And he looks straight at her. And he continues "fighting back is easy. But that is not what I want. I just want to protect you." And then he slumps unconscious at her feet and she starts crying.
I have SO MUCH LOVE for DMS. Guuuuuh.
And then I had to stop to go to bed.
On a non DMS/SC note, I love when the F3 show up to help SC at the store because DMS told them to take care of her. And the two 'secondary' F4s sell out all the cakes in minutes, as Lei just sits and watches, because they offer kissing with each purchase. I love the two of them. Btw, what is the name of the one with the really straight hair and no glasses? Because really hot. And I love that SC points out they just want to kiss the girls as much as they want to help. And SC's friend is all mopey because she is a co-worker so she can't buy any cakes :P
Oh, and a shallow observation? DMS looks yummy in all black. Yes.

Date: 2006-02-16 06:26 am (UTC)If you can deal with a budget that is clearly not equal to that of a US program and fashion that (at least in MG) is a bit odd, then those Taiwanese dramas are really worth looking for (I adored MARS even more than this).
If you do want anime that is good, I recommend Trigun (one of the best things in any genre I've seen, period) and Fushigi Yuugi which is part Chinese Martial Arts movie, part Bollywood love story, part a complicated fantasy tale and completely irresistable (it ate up my weekend).
am wondering if it is worth the drive
No idea, as it hasn't come out here yet. It's got a pretty cliche storyline (I did a post on it a long time ago, under "bollywood" tag. If you want, I'll find the link). I want to see it because it sounds very old-fashionedly mushy and because I adore Arjun, but YMMV.

from korea, i would recommend: My Name is Kim Sam Soon , Full House and Delightful Girl Chunhyang . those are my favorites. right now Goong is being shown and i cant wait to get the english subtitled series. :)
i actually like watchign movies so i have more of that. but it depends on what genre you like.
