Episode 5 of Nice Guy was very good (well, except those Choco-friend-ex scenes. What are they even doing in this drama? Is LKH dying to do a romcom or something, but is pressed for time so has to shoehorn it into her airing drama?)

The thing is, it is clear by now Eun Gi is not playing Maru in any way (which I find both surprising, seeing her tough distrustful shell, and oddly true - seeing how vulnerable she is underneath). I am narratively fine with a revenge scheme on Maru's part but I do get a delicious "I can't wait until she finds out and goes apocalyptic on you" feeling for their scenes, mainly because Eun Gi is my POV character and what he is doing to her makes me blazingly angry (of course, it's all complicated by the fact that real feelings of care and concern and possibility of love are bleeding into the make-believe). What drives me nuts though is not the 'I am using EG' part, it's the fact that he is still hung up on Jae Hee. ENOUGH! It's like one of those romcoms where all the hero does is pine for the annoying second lead girl and you just want to hit the ff-button, climb into the screen and tell him to have his head examined. It makes sense 100% narratively for his character to be so hung up, but as a viewer, it just makes me want I had a brainwashing machine I could stick him into and move on past that.

I'm really really enjoying this drama. My heart hurts for Eun Gi though!

Now that I think about it, it bothers me that we didn't get any scenes of Maru being arrested or him in prison. Because of that, I don't truly feel like he's suffered much. Also, the penalty for killing someone in SK must be extremely light if he got out after a few short years.

I also want to punch Maru everytime he shows how hung up he still is on that backstabbing bitch. And episode 6 only made me angrier!

Maru could have learned his lesson (that the woman he loves is a manipulative and heartless ho) and re-started his life after he got out of prison. I can't believe he even stayed in that hellhole of a "house" just so Jae Hee could still find him. -- Basically most of his pain is self-inflicted and I stopped pitying him at all.

I dislike Maru strongly. You went to jail for a woman who didn't appreciate it and then backstabbed you. Boo-hoo! I mean, sure, you are entitled to get drunk and have dating issues, but for him to keep using Eun Gi despite knowing exactly how awful it feels to be used (and at least JH didn't start out with a revenge plan against him) is - inexcusable.

I hate the way MR is still so hung up on JH. He's still so in love with her, and she's proven herself to be manipulative and cruel. He's heard her talk with EG, seen her kissing the lawyer/assistant, seen her basically emotionally manipulate him to feel sorry for her - and he still talks about loving her and wanting to safe/punish her and I just can't with that. JH has proven herself to be a classic Secondary Girl: she will use anyone that can give her what she wants and she expects MR to wait. She stopped visiting him while he was in prison and she had a child with the Chairman. Now, I cannot believe that she was secretly waiting for MR this whole time. Nor do I believe she had a great plan to wait until the Chairman died, take over the company, and than bring MR to the house as her lover. Nor do I believe she has ever really and seriously thought of running away with him. At this point she'll say what she has to in order to keep MR away from EG. Why? I think it's mostly jealously and the fact that she doesn't want EG (or even MR) to be happy.

Pushing all that aside, I really do love EG. She's a breath of fresh air in the K-drama world. I've just become so tired of the 'icy rich girl' or the 'poor plucky girl' or the 'noona'. I love that EG has layers and that she's tough but also has an innocence to her.

I also do like the EG and MR scenes. She's completely fallen for him and he, well I think he does like her as a person. But, MR is way too hung up on revenge and JH to see EG as a woman. I think it will be really interesting when MR falls for EG.

Re; the Choco-friend-ex scenes. I'm happy they are over. They just added nothing to the overall narrative. The friend being from a rich family and Choco having issues with her lungs will surely come into play later, though. Which is fine, as long as it adds something to the story.

She is the classic secondary girl...until the next episode...and then it's a whole lot of, "Damn this is a messed up show," involved

You know, even after episode six I still dislike JH a great deal. I think a lot of it has to do with what she's done and also the way she and MR treat themselves. Both act like the victims. JH acts like she deserves to be rich because her family was abusive. It doesn't sit right with me, because there are so many people who arise from abuse and poverty via their own means and via help from others. JH seems to blame everyone and she never looks at her own poor choices, and that bothers me.

I can't wait for Maru to fall for her but for EG snap out of it and give him hell. She seems to be attracted to troubled guys (remember the drug-using ex?) so I suppose no hope for her to go off with that nice clean-cut lawyer.

I can understand why Maru is so hung up on JH but as a viewer, it is very frustrating.

Like you said above, it's really frustrating because MR knows EG cares for him and he knows what it is liked to be used.

My feelings exactly. I love this drama to pieces, but I will love it even more when we get to the part where Maru is crazy in love with Eun Gi and she won't give him the time of day because she hates him for using her. (Or at least I'm hoping that's what will happen.)

And yeah, it makes sense that Maru hasn't gotten over his love/hate for Jae Hee - they were together so long, their relationship was sort of like lovers, best friends and family all in one, and moreover he only found out what a horrible person she is recently - but it is frustrating.

Yes, I need to get to the part where the balance of power flips (or at least is more equal) because as of now it's like a heavyweight champion fighting a three year old. The unfairness of it all makes me want to smack Maru with a 2by4.

I am thoroughly shocked that Eun-gi isn't playing the game, tbh. She's so capable and careful in her day to day life that I'm still in some disbelief. I still have to watch episode 6 and I'm dreading it. Because I've really grown attached to Eun-gi and I don't want to see her hurt. Maru is still so hung up on Jae hee that he doesn't see her and it's so frustrating.

It's really hard to watch someone as tough as Eun-gi is let down her walls and let someone in, only to have it be betrayed. It's not pleasant. I'm just hoping that she turns the tables on him when she finds out and doesn't go into self-destruct mode.

Yes - I pretty much loathe Maru by now precisely because he is taking advantage of someone vulnerable without being emotionally involved himself (if he was in love with her, somehow it would feel more OK).
