Two period cdramas I am waiting for
Sep. 22nd, 2012 09:42 pmMy most anticipated upcoming drama, King of Lan Ling has released a long trailer, focusing on the love triangle between our titular character, a prince who was a legendary warrior/general who wore a mask on the battlefield, played by my huge obsession Feng Shao Feng, Ariel Lin as a heir to a mystical powers tradition, and Daniel Chan as a King of Zhou. (Unsurprisingly, both Daniel and FSF play real historical people but Ariel plays a fictional one. Ariel/FSF is the OTP in this one).
That trailer makes me die of glee:
You can get translations for the trailer at the awesome Koalasplayground.
I AM DYING HERE!!!! (And not just due to the scene where FSF is fighting shirtless in a shower of petals and then sees Ariel. Talk about catering to my wildest id fantasies!). I mean!!!! The angst! The awesome war scenes! True and doomed love! Warlords vying for a beautiful woman and totally becoming lambs around her. Etc etc!!! Gimme!
Also, I remember reading ages ago about the upcoming (not sure if cdrama ot hk or what drama) called Hero with Kevin Cheng, Michael Tse, Ying Er, and Ken Chu (everyone seems to be either a hk or twactor except for Ying Er so I am honestly not sure which production it is). Hero adapts the famous story of one of the four beauties of ancient China. In Hero, Xi Shi (Ying Er) was used to bring down Fu Chai, the King of Wu (Kevin Cheng). Xi Shi's lover, Fan Li (Ken Chu) talked her into it on the behalf of the King of Yue, Gou Jian (Michael Tse). Gou Jian was defeated and made to be a slave to Fu Chai at one point and knows how to hold a grudge! Xi Shi's was actually adopted into a drama at least once before, the Conquest, with Chen Kun.
I remember reading about this and with the knowledge of the story and of the plot of the Conquest (where Xi Shi/Fan Li were the OTP to end all OTPs), my main thought was WTF!!!! What kind of woman would prefer Ken Chu over Kevin Cheng, especially Kevin Cheng who is utterly and madly in love with you? Especially when your boyfriend is basically asking you to prostitute yourself for patriotism in this version?! I mean, WTF!
Thankfully, the makers are not insane. In this version, Xi Shi ends up falling right back for Fu Chai, no doubt giving purists conniptions but me every possible glee imaginable. I am going to revel in their dooooooooooooomed love like there is no tomorrow!
Have a trailer!

Date: 2012-09-23 04:48 am (UTC)I ship FSf and Ariel in this so hard, it's ridiculous. I mean, she is the one who gives him his mask! Their love is doomed by fate! He takes a poisoned arrow for her and she leaves him for other dude to save him! There is kneeling in the rain! He us supposed to torch some plague village but can't because she is in it! (stay far away from me, ancient methods of dealing with infection!) THE SHIRTLESS PETALS FIGHTING SCENE WITH STARING ARIEL!!!!!
I need this! Much more than the Da Mo Yao adaptation, actually (though I am sure I'll enjoy that one, too).
Re: Hero. I am a huuuuuuuuuuuuge Kevin Cheng fangirl and a decent-sized Michael Tse fangirl (seems he has his own OTP in this, which is yay). Plus, I am just excited poor Ying Er is out of the appalling and offensive nightmare that were those Sealed with a kiss adaptations. More like 'sealed with repeated rape and abuse and fangirls still swoon for it'.

Date: 2012-09-23 06:15 am (UTC)You really need to watch RMPW. It did get sidetracked, which was frustrating on a live-airing watch-wail-wait schedule, but if you marathon it it's good... I'm halfway through writing the last episode post (in which I shall mainly squee~)
Don't even get me started on the Feng Shao FengxAriel Lin. It screams to be shipped. I'm pretty sure it's instinctual for all of us that as soon as her Nanai pretty sure it's her Nanai.. that's what I remember from the story I used to be told) tells her she canna be with him, we start shipping them hardcore, even without the pretty and the chemistry and the *drools and faints*
I'm sort of looking but not looking forward to Da Mo Yao because I am severely pissed with it. I mean, I don't want to write anyone off completely, especially since I love the main cast (Eddie Peng made me watch Wayward Kenting... Hu Ge (and Ariel) for Tian Wai Fei Xian and Condor Heroes and all the Chinese Paladins and Xuan Yuan Jian Zhi Tian Zhi Hen... Geeze the skeletons in my drama-watching closet are sad and embarrassing). But damn the casting. It would have been PERFECT had they just switched Eddie and Hu Ge TT_TT
Re: Hero. TVB dramas are lovely hazy memories in my mind where they would play in the backdrop during elevenses and teatimes and my grandparents would watch them and I would join them by laying on my grandad's tummy and oohing over the special effects, so I sorta don't has biases in there. Kevin Cheng.. hmm.. I think he was in Legendary Siblings and Hard Face or something right? I looked up Sealed With A Kiss, and damn, that's a whole lotta pain to watch, even without the rapeyness... also, Tong Xue sounds like classmate and I giggle because I am immature =3 Oh, and on immatureness, I totally read tw-actor as twactor (like Elmer Fudd saying Tractor) ^u^

Date: 2012-09-23 11:53 pm (UTC)I've seen Kevin Cheng in Last One Standing, Mystery in the Palace, some other stuff. And of course the amazing Bu Bu Jing Xin. TVB dramas don't have the budgets/production values of Mainland stuff but I find them oddly comforting. Plus, easier to get subs.
I adore Hu Ge but I think he's getting a bit too gaunt to play Eddie's character in DMY (maybe I am influenced by the shirtless kissing stills :P)
FSF/Ariel is a match made in drama heaven.

Date: 2012-09-23 08:39 am (UTC)I'm so shipping ariel and FSF here already. I wasn't relatively uninterested with the past few trailers, though it has been on my sure to watch list since the day ariel picked it. And it didn't helped that i love Ba ah ge so much thanks to gong, despite how flawed it was, so it was definitely on my sure to watch list. Loving them both individually, how can i not watch this! But the first few trailers didn't appeal to me that much, other than the scene in the rain and all... but this.... Goodness, I'm a sucker for forbidden love stories, and this seems great. I love how the presented the trailer, with the granny saying it's not possible for them at first, but she still goes against fate, and says she'll protect him on the battlefield. Something about the end of the trailer reminds me of many cdramas, gong definitely, how she decided to go to 4th prince to save 8th prince. I swear I'm gonna be dehydrated after watching this with my never ending tears, but who cares, i need this now. January 2013, why aren't you here yet? I'm still hoping it'll air in october instead.
Isn't it amazing how ariel hasn't age since like tian wai fei xian? she looks exactly the same!

Date: 2012-09-23 11:55 pm (UTC)I liked the earlier trailers too, but this one lifted my anticipation into the stratosphere - all the shippiness and angst and chemistry and doom!
And you are right, Ariel just doesn't age.
