Faith - episode 9 thoughts and caps
Sep. 11th, 2012 10:07 pmDid anyone else see the new haircut and think 'Bidam!!!!' Just me? Ahhh, Bidam, light of my heart...

This is not related to anything in the episode, but I keep thinking that the best ending for Eun Soo would be to go back to her own time - 21st century is better than 14th century, even if the former is Choi Young-less. And the more the drama goes on, the more it is evident that CY is a person of his own time and would stick out badly in the 21st century. Even if that was fixed, I'd think it would create pretty drastic changes in history if Eun Soo took him away 40+ years too early and thus all his battle victories and politics wouldn't have happened (not that it bothers her, seeing that she invited him to go with her back in ep 7). OTOH, Qing Chuan brought the Eighth Prince into modern time in Gong (I would have KILLED to be present at that conversation with her mother - 'sorry I've been missing for a while but, on the plus side, I got married. Mommy, meet my new husband, an 18th-century Qing royal'). OTOH (I am running out of hands here), Eight was only taken to the present right about the time he historically died - whether he disappeared into white time-travelling light or got offed by Yongzheng had little effect on history. Hmmm, but maybe this is an alternate timeline anyway? Seeing that I am pretty sure historical Choi Young didn't have wuxia powers...
My head hurts.
Love the way she looks at him (Gi Ghul has to prevent her from rising, actually) and love the little grin Gongmin and Choi Young exchange. It's a rare moment, seeing them happy.

I guess I could use this cap to talk about how the drama explains how the King got CY out, but instead I am going to use this to mourn CY's wonderful, glorious hairdo!

Because, just like his King, he's switched his garb and hair and now looks like Bidam's younger but just as sexy brother. I prefer the earlier look but this one isn't bad. And, once again, he's thinking of the little King he lost and of Eun Soo's disdain (he doesn't know, after all, she doesn't feel that way any more).

Here for haircut awesomeness.

Eeee! Lady Choi tells him not to want Eun Soo (ILY, Lady, but don't be a cockblocker!) and I love that CY (before the denial kicks in, that is) is all 'why not?' RAWRRRRR!

Someone is smitten. And why not? Who wouldn't be?

She also is remembering Choi Young ordering Anime Guy to kill CY if she says to spare him and to spare him if she says to kill him (not sure why anime guy told her - another one of GC's tests or a rare humanitarian impulse?) I love that she is being so ballsy with a homicidal, power-hungry wuxia-having nobleman. She is amazing. Also, GC may be a child-murdering psycho but his clothing taste is impeccable. I'd totally wear that robe thingy as a wedding dress.

She is totally thinking about CY! Awww, the flower motif!

Ummm, GC is kinda sexy. I'll show myself out.

And Kim Hee Sun, in this role, is almost enough to make me want to switch my sexual orientation. She's unreal.

GC asking information about the future - he's awfully charismatic when he wants to be.

CY is there, and I love how he ignores fire lady 'to retrieve something that belongs to me.' It turns out to be his sword. Boooo, I wanted it to be Eun Sung! :P But their conversation kills me - his asking her how she is and her answering that she's fine and telling him if she told him she was imprisoned, he'd just fight and blood will flow again (ohhh, I love that she cares - because she would not want him to spill blood for her again, even someone else's, because it's not a great thing for his, or anyone's psyche, to do this. She put her money where he mouth is. When's the last time anyone cared?). And her telling him she got the little king ready for the funeral (see, now that she's calmed down, she knows how much he cares). Or his oblique warning to lie well later.

CY musing that he doesn't know when it happened, when he forgot the ninja girl's face ('it' can be interpreted as both moving on and falling for ES. EEEE! Go make gorgeous babies!)

This whole thing was hilarious and cute and I loved the happiness and I wish he could stay with these people and ditch the palace. (Also, dude in white with a crush on CY? I feel ya. So much).

Here for hotness.

And for ES being brave.

And gorgeous.

Like every scene between Nogook and Gongmin, this one slays me. They really are equals now, and I do love the symbolism of the veil between them being lifted.

Yup, hotness.

This whole scene - so tense, so smart (I also love that it shows that Gongmin gains in strength when he shares - he told CY he wanted to rescue ES for him, awww).

ES lied as prompted, only to be dragged away for treason. This is a giant scheme to rescue her but she has no idea. And ohhh, CY's face, because he feels bad for her being terrified. Dude, you are so sleeping on the 14th-century equivalent of the couch, tonight.

When CY tells the former governor he holds grudges quite well, I cheered!

Their chemistry is insane and I love how angry ES is (and CY taken aback). I mean, she kicks him in the shins! Heeeee! So far, she's the sole person to manage to inflict damage on our intrepid general. And I totally agree with her - once again she's been treated as a pawn, manipulated, volition taken away, even if 'for own good.' No wonder she is pissed the hell off.

Awww, poor Eun Soo! And CY is turning into quite an accomplished stalker. Who feels awfully guilty hearing ES cry about missing her family. You are hot, but it serves you right. Now go protect that gorgeous woman you feel bad for and want to treat well :)

It really got to me that ES desperately needed reassurance that the little king's death was not her fault (remember her convo with sexy doc back way when how she didn't want responsibility for life and death). But what really got me is that we learn that due to his guilt over little king, CY gave up any hope of leaving the palace, his sole wish, and will now stay. GRRRR! Dammit, I was so relieved when I thought he finally found something to be happy about and would find pride and joy in service to Gongmin but no, it's yet another round of his neverending self-punishment. For Hwata's sake, you are not a Catholic monk, stop wallowing in guilt! Live! At least the frozen world is gone, that's something.

OK, is Eun Soo also Hwata? That seems unlikely, as Hwata is shown as male, so does she go back to the future, write this down, gives this to whoever becomes Hwata and said Hwata goes back? Whut? I need to know! (Random side note - when anime dude and GC came to see Eun Soo, I noticed GC shoving the mute apothecary out of the way, but anime dude bowed. Hmmm. Quite telling. Also, is the bad guy dying? He seems to act like it, talking about not enough time and needing treatments. Hmmm).

Ep 10, here I come!

Date: 2012-09-12 02:45 am (UTC)At the same time, I know what CY is doing in order to protect her but it's coming to that point where ES isn't going to blindly keep her faith in CY anymore. Partly because she's used to acting on her own and partly bec she doesn't want him to kill for her. It's frustating in a god way.
I love how frankly he says why not?. It made me giddy. And you're so right about ES being the only one so far that's gotten a kick and a stab on him. Hah there's something lovely about this tiny but loud woman getting the best of our fearsome warrior. I awwed when he was waiting for her to come out of the room where she was talking to the Queen.
And yes, they need to go make gorgeous babies! Even though I'm convinced that ES will have to go back to her own time and CY will have to stay here in his time. I'm going to pretend that problem doesn't exist for now.
Also I love how ES hits her knee trying to put her leg up and has to be helped by KC. So hilarious and adorable. ES doesn't need to put on a front- we all know she's badass. Her constantly challenging KC this pisode is proof of it!

Date: 2012-09-12 02:55 am (UTC)I agree, I love the conflict between CY's desire to protect ES (and his honor) and the fact that ES does not like being a puppet and, more practically,is morally opposed to CY killing for her sake. Irresistible force, meet immovable object.
I love that he said 'why not', no hemming or hawing. You go!
I am pretty sure she will go back and he will stay in Goryo which is :( but I honestly can't see any other ending.

Date: 2012-09-12 03:57 am (UTC)Gi Cheol helping her posture at the desk was so adorable, agreed. I almost felt nice towards the dude for a second~
I too was so giddy with joy when he went 'why not?', I almost shed tears of happiness at the sight of no denial... and then he went "don't misunderstand..." and I wanted to kick him in the shins. Obviously I hoped for too much I suppose *sigh* The only time in a saguek-fusion that the OTP has gone the way I wanted is Queen In Hyun's Man and I have no clue if we'll ever see that again :<
At this point, I am kicking myself for watching this show as it's airing live because I want to skip to the end, know how everything pans out, and then go back to watching the show in peace, and not my mind whirring at the thousand possibilities (and with the ability to skip the sobby bits.. there's only so much sad emotions I can take.. after that point, I might as well throw myself under a train...). This is why I love completed shows over airing ones most of the time.
I do completely completely completely see the logic of Eun Soo returning to her own time, and Choi Young staying in his (not the mention the history that will not happen does he go to future to live) but at the same time I really do want both of them to stay together (because one more sad OTP will cause aforementioned throwing-self-under-train), preferably with Young-ie going into the future so he doesn't have to shed more blood. Right now, I only have two theories for how they can stay together, albeit some compromise. (1) Someone else steps in and claims to be Choi Young (with the King's permission/planning of course, and maybe Eun Soo can even plastic surgery the new guy into looking somewhat like Young-ie if she can manage to find enough substitutes for modern materials, or if she visits the future for supplies. OMG Imagine if you could make Choi Young lookalikes at will~) so that Choi Young can secretly go to the future, or (b) that we have a Time Traveller's Wife scenario in reverse (somewhat) so that Choi Young stays in the past, and Eun Soo pops in to visit the past (and hubby) every so often (very often). See? I'm going mental. I need a sneak peek to the end of the show, dammit.
And last but not least: In the preview in episode 8, I was promised a different hairstyle for Choi Young (not younger Bidam style). Don't think I've forgotten, show. The hair off of his forehead looked good *makes grabby hands*

Date: 2012-09-13 01:59 am (UTC)I want an army of CY lookalikes please!
I want them together so badly. argh argh!!!
Ooooh, I like the other hairstyle too. They are all sexy.

Date: 2012-09-12 06:49 am (UTC)Old hairdo come back to us~~ (Where in blazes did he get a straightening iron? Lol.) I thought I was the only one that likes the old hairdo more. I don't know why. He looked "rougher". I like it better. But maybe the new hair will grow on me. But I will forever miss his curly mop. :(
Hee. I so loved that his initial reaction is "Why not?" Lol. (I love Lady Choi.) Slip of the tongue maybe? The heart wants what the heart wants and all that jazz. I thought finally no denial in this drama. But I spoke too soon. Lol. I wish something will happen soon with their loveline. Everytime they're on screen together I just want to push their faces together and tell them to kiss.
Gangsta!ES is here again. Lol. I loved the way she slipped on KC's desk. And KC's reaction! Even EJ in the background was startled. Lol. I love ES and KC scenes always. I find that the bad guys have become more interesting after interacting with ES. Is it just me? I also love how she said that whether CY lives or dies is up to her. And that KC shouldn't lay a finger on him. It's basically her saying no one messes with her man. Although she probably doesn't realize that yet.
The lady doth protests too much. Lol. I love how ES basically got in his face and asks "You didn't come to see me?" Yeah, she also doesn't believe it is his sword he cares about right now. Sword must be a newly invented codeword for ES. I see what you did there, CY. It's so sweet that her biggest concern is about not seeing him fight and shed blood again. She doesn't want that for him. Though she understands that it has been his way of life, she's still trying to shield him from it, even just a bit. Hand on his sleeve. I love that she's the one who initiated contact because she told him before not to touch her, right? I think CY also realizes that. And how happy she is he's alive. I love the little swallow CY did when she let go and turned away. He is in sooooo deep. Now, kiss! Or as you said, Go make gorgeous babies!
The accusing look ES gives him when they were taking her away. Kills me. CY's guilt in seeing how distressed she is. Yeah, you really should feel guilty. She thinks it's all real! You better make it up to her! Letting her think she's going to be receiving the worst punishments imaginable.
I loved the way he stood up nervously when ES walked out. He should know that ES is not to be messed with. So far, she's the sole person to manage to inflict damage on our intrepid general.
Hee. I so love that too. He's met his match in this tiny woman. (I have a thing with their height difference.) I hope she can get to kick him a whole lot more next time. Why must my OTP inflict pain on each other always? But serves him right. He can't jerk her around. Enough is enough. I just want to watch him find a way to get back into her good graces. And fail a few times. That will be interesting.
Okay, I kinda ship ES and JB. Juuuuust a little bit. She needs him right now to calm down.
It really got to me that ES desperately needed reassurance that the little king's death was not her fault
It really explains how she reacted. We all know she takes life very seriously. And losing a patient is something a doctor will always always find a hard time to live with. How JB was surprised at her crying. I think it says a lot of ES's character. Because she is strong. (She doesn't like to cry as well.) But a person can only take so much. And right now, her whole world has just been turned upside down. Again. And again. And when will it end?

Date: 2012-09-13 02:05 am (UTC)I too LOLed to see his hair go from straight to curly. I guess if he got an iron, he could power it with his powers?
I want him to actively pursue her and woo her. I wonder who will make the first move - my money is on him as he's finding it harder and harder to control his emotions around her. I just want to see him happy for a bit, and her too.
This hair is fine but I liked the earlier one better - as you put it, it made him look rougher. I liked the more wild look (taaame him, Eun Soo!).
I love how she is strong willed and baffles him and amuses him and worries him and makes him happy.
no subject
Date: 2012-09-13 06:06 am (UTC)I don't see him making the first move just yet. But maybe he'll surprise us when he loses control? I can't wait. Though with how things are in Episode 10... I don't know how they'll pursue the loveline. It's gotten way serious.
taaame him, Eun Soo!
I LOLed at this. I kinda like that they matched with the hair. You know, both with their curls. And they'd have curly haired babies. I'm getting ahead of myself. And yes, it was a manlier look for some reason.
Hee. I kinda like the idea he's trying to figure her out but in the end he doesn't think it's important because her quirks are one of the things he loves about her. It's easy to see the range of emotions she lets him feel. Love!
And yes, I need them to be happy.

Date: 2012-09-12 06:52 am (UTC)Okay, now here's my complaint. I love this drama and I have come to realize that at its core, it is a historical drama. And I am hit with the realization again on why I never watch period dramas. But they said that there's an epic love story in this, so I took a chance. Also, because I like pretty things, and the two leads are reallyreally shiny pretty people, I am sold. I mean, the political intrigue is... intriguing but I mainly watch dramas for the OTP. I get to just sit back and unwind and watch two ridiculously good-looking people be ridiculously sweet. So I am getting a bit antsy since I feel there isn't enough OTP scenes/interactions for me. I guess the 24 episode thing is getting to me, too. You can't make a historical drama in just 24 episodes. It will be possible if it's just about that but there's just too many things going on. And with the additional characters, it makes for less screentime for the OTP. (For both character's individual story as well.) And if they're trying to make it as an epic love story... I feel they're just trying to do too many things at once. I won't be complaining about their screentime if I know this is a 60 episode drama, but it isn't. And I'm pouting. We're already halfway through and there's not much progress yet. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the interactions between KHS and LMH in the behind the scenes videos. I feel I get more OTP scenes in them than in the drama itself.
It's just sad I don't get to see them more onscreen; their characters, their chemistry. I enjoy both actors and it makes me sad to know that they probably won't get to work together again and this is the only chance I'll have them on my screen together like this. This is why I am more a fan of modern stories. Oh, I enjoy period settings but mostly when it's in movie form. The badassness of the heroes and heroines are a treat. But when I am this invested in an OTP, it just makes me wish for more. I guess I still have the behind the scenes videos to get me through.
End rant. Lol. Sorry about that. But this has probably made me wary of period dramas even more.
I love your icon.

Date: 2012-09-13 02:02 am (UTC)Historical dramas are my favorite genre but yes, usually less romance than in a 'normal' drama. By period drama standards, this is harlequin romance novel level. The only drama I've seen that even had something compatible was The Princess' Man and even there majority wasn't romancing. I don't mind seeing that Legend didn't even have kissing and I adore it, but yeah.
no subject
Date: 2012-09-13 06:17 am (UTC)I didn't watch Legend but I'm of the impression it didn't sell itself as having an epic love story, so I wouldn't have mind if there's no skinship because I know what I'm getting into. But I guess with Faith I was just unable to shake off the dozens of modern stories I've watched, so that's actually my bad. Although my gripe is also about the leads having too few screentime together. Half of them CY spent unconscious. Lol.

Date: 2012-09-14 02:17 am (UTC)I think romance is on a level with TPM though.

Date: 2012-09-12 08:55 am (UTC)Later in the drama, when all's said and done, the gate to "Heaven" finally opens and Eun Soo goes back (alone)...
... but once there, she realized she can't live without Choi Young and enters the portal again to go back....
... but it takes her to a different time period, much earlier. And when everyone greets her as a heavenly doctor, that's when she realizes she's Hwata. And keeps a diary to help her future self.

Date: 2012-09-12 09:01 am (UTC)So it makes more sense to think that Eun Soo's father is Hwata. Maybe he was the heavenly doctor and fell in love with a woman from the past... then they had a baby (Eun Soo) and for some reason he came back alone through the portal with her, to the future. Maybe the baby had some terrible disease that he couldn't heal in the past. And what he see in the diary is the name Dad/Hwata picked for his child.

Date: 2012-09-12 04:35 pm (UTC)1. ES continues to be both hilarious and awesome. I was kind of cheering when she kicked CY in the shin.
2. CY's reaction: "Why not?" I was all like, "See! You can't even help it! You DO like her!"
3. The new hair-do. Honestly, I like it better than the old style. It brings out's LMH's chiseled features, which is fine by me :)
