I have just started ep 8 of Arang and the Magistrate and seriously, he's unreal. (Also, Eun Oh is concerned and worried for Arang in these caps, which seems his perpetual state of being).






Plus, the drama is ridiculously pretty as well, creating an apogee of prettiness...






Ugh, every time I see Joo Wal, I get creeped out. Especially since they were playing romantic music here and he clearly found her pretty and all I wanted to yell was 'he is a serial killer for a demon! Who's killed you twice! Ruuuun!'

I love Jun Ki's character. Love love love.

My only potential gripe with this drama is Arang. Sometimes her behavior makes me want to strangle her. Seriously, she's too childish, rude and impulsive. I know that's the "kdrama heroine" norm but... I'd hoped she'd be different.

She is not my favorite airing heroine or anything but to cut her some slack, she is really only 3 years old past-wise :)

And the rationale behind her character is that necessity forced her to become so. That is more a comment on class rather than gender.

Hmmm, that's interesting and true - she was pretty much some sort of poor person equivalent as a ghost.

I confess that occasionally she drives me batty and she is also not really developing/maturing but I can see why she is the way she is.

I sort of want Joo Wal to actually fall for her. The conflict between his feelings for Arang and the desire to please his "mother" would be awesomely entertaining. I also want to see a sign of guilt or regret from his character. Even though his past was pitiful, that doesn't justify the murders he's committed. Isn't he aware that killing innocent girls for some demon-woman-thing is horribly wrong? Or did he tune out his conscience long ago? Whatever.

My love for Arang has not wavered, even though she can be completely stubborn and frustrating at times. Still, I just gotta admire the girl and her guts.

Totally. It would be dramatically necessary for Joo Wal to fall for her. He's already shown signs of falling for her - his being stunned when she smiled at him after he hoisted her up onto the wall, his initial desire to keep her to himself until he found out the reason for the creepy mom's intentions for Arang.

I think he's aware that killing these girls is the wrong thing to do, but he's been conditioned since childhood; even if he knows it's wrong it would be close to impossible for him to stop killing, at least as long as he's under Mom's iron grip (who he seems to be scared shitless of, even if she offers him "security").

I think what they're aiming to do with his character is make him more sympathetic (or at least so pitiful to the point that one feels a little sorry for him even if they don't like him as a person). Then once they do that, they'll off him and send him to hell. (At this point I don't see how he WON'T go to hell for all his crimes, so they'll try to make him a little likable as for the audience to feel sorry/pity that he's going to spend an entirety in a torture chamber)

I am getting mildly frustrated with Arang because she just isn't developing but she can certainly be fun.

JW = I want him to (literally) go to hell already. But yes, it will be entertaining to see him deal.
