To the Beautiful You - ep 7
Sep. 6th, 2012 11:03 pmAwww, my fluffy drama, you made me cry a bit today.
I confess the first half of the episode wasn't my favorite - it was heavily Eun Gyul-centric and I have never been interested in any incarnation of Nakatsu in the slightest. Sure, Tae Joon's jealousy was cute, but that is about it.

But then we got the second half. Sure, Jae Hee in trouble and Tae Joon rescues her is an utter cliche (and one this drama adores to use) but hey - I am easy, it works for me beautifully every time. And I love the way she runs into his arms and the way he hesitates for a second and then his hand holds her and he keeps stroking her hair. And then he sees she is still terrified, so he takes her hand. I know Jae Hee has the common sense of a house plant but how she is not wondering either whether (a) Tae Joon has figured out she is a girl; or (b) Tae Joon is the most openly gay student in the school, is beyond me. Does she think straight dudes normally hug other dudes, stroke their hair, hold their hand, and kneel to fix their shoes? And let them hold them? Must have been some city in America she lived in!
I do love what a good guy Tae Joon is - he is that rarest of kdrama rarities - a kdrama hero it would be good to date in real life. And we get more of his backstory with his mother and I confess I teared up. No wonder he has trauma but I love how he is trying to work through it and how contained he is (even at his lowest, he just became surly and detached, he never lashed out at others). And I loved that Jae Hee held him and also that they ended up watching that movie he never finished with his mother, together.

Bring on ep 8!

Date: 2012-09-08 02:32 am (UTC)This was such a sweet and fun ep. I love this drama so much. Tae Joon crying over his mom didnt make me cry but I did feel so bad for him. The great thing about Tae Joon is even tho he is reserved and sad he doesnt like MANPAIN all over the place and by that i mean he doesnt treat everyone horrible just cause he feels wronged by i dunno life and acts like he's the only one who's ever had a hard time and we the viewers are supposed to care about all his angst and feel like AWWW POOR GUY HE'S NOT A JERK HE JUST NEEDS A HUUUUUG. NO. NO HE IS STILL A JERK. GAH. lol uh anyway. this is def my fave version of Sano. He's sweet beneath his prickly outer layer and even better he has some hilariously uncool moments. Omg when he like shouted OH MY GOD upon seeing thanat cat. HAHAHHAA. perfect. and the total fail with the bowling ball. I was sad he didnt do terrible the whole time and then go home and quietly fume because he looked stupid in front of jae hee and the guys and also eun gyeol out cooled him. but alas that did not happen. his jealousy is so cute too. and how can u not like nakatsu? He's so sweet and funny XD Toma's Nakatsu was the only good thing about the jdrama for me. and This dramas' Nakatsu is adorable too, hhe's so hopelessly smitten and clueless. and his ridiculous fantasies are my fave. I am sad he didnt have any this week. I hope they come back next week!

Date: 2012-09-08 10:14 pm (UTC)Re: different culture norms. I come from a culture where women hold hands walking and hug etc (men don't) and I still do it with my best friend who comes from the same culture. But trust me, if two women did what TJ and JH do in this drama, nobody would think anything but 'couple!' But then nobody can see JH is a girl though you'd need to be blind and deaf to not notice, so this school is...special.
