Five Fingers ep 5 - the adults enter and my attention engages

Ep 5 of FF is where I finally checked in. Anyone reading this LJ for any length of time knows I have absolutely zero interest in childhood scenes of any sort so, while I was watching the earlier eps to keep up with the story, I was pretty checked out. But now we have Joo Ji Hoon, Ji Chang Wook and Jin Se Yeon and I am verrrry interested.



FF reminds me a lot of Baker King (substitute pianos for pastries - I prefer the former as I love classical music, so this is a bonus), complete with Ji Chang Wook doing his best to steal the drama as the tormented, dark younger brother (he'd succeed too, if the 'good brother' was acted anyone but Joo Ji Hoon, who brings his trademark contained intensity and manages to make my heart stutter even with that crazy haircut).



Jin Se Yeon hasn't had much to do yet, and will clearly play the usual good-hearted heroine (one of the reasons I loved Baker King was that Eugene's heroine was a dark and damaged woman. But perhaps that is why she ended up with the secondary guy). I think she is fine in the role. I think her Mom is nuts btw - I don't care if you want to clear your husband's name - pushing a dementia patient until she has a panic attack is NOT the way to go.





Ummm, am I the only one getting weirdly Oedipal vibes in every scene between Joo Ji Hoon and his step-mom, Choi Sira. They have way way inappropriate chemistry and I kinda want to see a REALLY dark and twisted story there (or at least JJH paired opposite a much older woman).











Aaaand:



Every time Ji Chang Wook appears on-screen as this walking wounded, intense and angry and lashing out and hurt, the drama ratchets up a notch. The look on his face when he finally learns the truth (that his mother was trying to save him and not Ji Ho from the fire) - the vulnerability, the relief, it guts me. I know he is going to be a bad guy but I can't help but desperately feel sorry for someone who's had horrific parents, who is still suffering from PTSD and has to be on anti-depressants, who has been pretty screwed by life. Of course, the one person who loves him in a healthy way is Ji Ho but In Ha can't see it, can't see past his bitterness and envy - it's going to be tragic.

















































Basically, I really like this drama. A lot!

Oh, FF is full of awull and awully damaged people. At this point JH is still among the more or less normal but I doubt it lasts longer than to the point when he finally finds out the truth about his mommy dearest and little bro. And then we get pyrothecnics.

LOL! You are not alone in noticing the the inappropriate chemistry between mommy and JH. They sorta crackle.

I am very curious how we get from this JH to the one in the opener who sets the house on fire and leaves Mommy Dearest to burn. Everyone in this needs to be in therapy and most of them in jail.

Yeah, I keep wanting them to hook up which is pretty wrong.

Well, thecnically they are not related, so... But I doubt FF is that kind of story. :D This is Korea after all, where hooking up with your third cousin twice removed is concidered incestuous. Were FF one of those batshit crazy j-dramas on the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised of angry makeouts with IH secretly watching and stewing, LOL! IH is the one with the bigger mommy issues after all.

I'm also wondering how Da Mi will change once she finds out that mommy dearest is the main cause of her family's troubles and heartache.

Now I want this to be a jdrama, by the same people who did Byakuyo.

I think they are going to leave Dami out of the lunacy and keep her as the noble good girl - at least I hope so because while JSY is a nice fresh face, her acting chops are nowhere near the main three and she really shouldn't be saddled with a complex emotional arc

Maybe you should give a tip to the Byakuyo writer that there is a k-drama just waiting to be adapted.... ;D

I doubt DM will turn to the dark side but I'm sure the revelation will affect her. Like push her towards JH, especially if she finds out when JH has already hit the rock bottom. Poor IH will probably have an apoplexy as mommy's involvement will come as a surprise for him too and he want's the girl. I still hope they keep the makjang somewhat contained or it'll get ridiculous.

They can probably get away with more makjang than usual simply because they have such a good cast (whi can do understated in the middle of insanity really well) but yes, please don't let it be another Flames of Desire or something similarly ridiculous.

You'll love episode 6 so much more, I promise. Jin Se Yeon start her relationship with both boys in earnest. She has good chemistry with them so far, I can't wait to see her relationship development with both boys. JCW already head over heels to her and they are cute together, but I like her more with JJH, she become feisty and spunky with him, they had quarrel and misunderstanding funny bickering. I hope they stays that way for a while, it's more interesting, completely different with when they were children.

LOL shipping In Ha with Da Mi will result in many heartaches. I KNOW it sigh. I'll always be tempted probably but no, I'm not sure I can handle the pair with so much angst potential like this. In Ha is traiwreck bound to happen (if he isn't already). He has mountain of hate and inferiority complex toward his bro as it is, to know that his longtime crush and probably his only salvation actually loves his bro + his mom actually killed his dad, he'll break for sure, poor boy, aww. Even when he was a child, he dare to tried suicide. Can't imagine what he's capable of now.

Yeah, I want JCW's character to have a hopeful happy ending like Ma Jun in Baker King (minus getting the girl) but the stuff in his background is a loooot darker, so probably not.

watching epi 5 and 6, despite i had no idea what they're talking about :p, i do ship DM w/ both boys, but i wonder is it really OK to ship DM with her brother too??? 'cause in their scene together, they're nearly looked couple-like too to me kekekekeee.....
