By ep 3, I have much pretty much decided that resisting the adorableness is impossible. I love this fluffy, silly, darling drama. (But then I am seemingly the only person who loathed the sainted 2007 jdrama so my tastes must be perverse :P)
I mean, I get things like this:

There is also this which made me LOL and LOL. You aren't into going for subtle, are you, drama?

And adorable jealousy!

So, what's everyone take - does Tae Joon know our heroine is a girl in drag or not? He is straight and yet seems awfully unconfused about his sexual orientation vis-a-vis Sulli, unlike Nakatsu, but then we weren't shown him figuring it out...Hmmmm.

Methinks he does know - the sweater-giving confirmed it for me, and (spoiler?) at least in the manga he knew by now.

Date: 2012-08-23 04:07 am (UTC)I do NOT get the fandom love for the jdrama aside from the 'you like skinny pretty boys, we got them by the bushel' aspect. That drama was just so shrill and all about the boys, as opposed to about Mizuki, Oguri Shun was replaced by a robot, Maki was miscast and had no chemistry with him, and oh God, I must have lost IQ points due to how stupid and full of mugging it was. I mean, no adaptation of HK is going to be a braintrust by definition, but there is fluffy and cute and there is so idiotic it hurts my mind.
I could rant about it all day - it is so heavenly to find someone who agrees about the jdrama being a pit.
ETA: I know that he knew in the manga - no idea if kdrama is going to go the same way. I am leaning towards his knowing though.

Date: 2012-08-23 05:45 am (UTC)tbh if they had him find out off screen I'll be kind of pissed. I liked the idea they were holding back and having him build a bit of a bond with Sulli's character before he found out she was a girl and he thus felt compelled to take care of her out of some sense of chivalry, I dont remember at all when Sano found out in the manga or where their relationship was but i remember it was really early on. I figured Sano would find out in the first 2 eps but then I was pleasantly surprised when he didnt. but if he doesnt find out in tomorrow's ep I'll really wonder wtf they are trying to pull here lol. Like are they just gonna leave hints that he knows? I mean its an interesting twist tbf but like I hope we do get to see what his reaction was at some point upon finding out even if its in a flashback or something. and for us the audience to be told explicitly that he knows and way before the finale. like to me part of the fun of hana kimi is the dramatic irony of Sano knowing that Mizuki is a girl and covering for her and her having no earthly idea and conducting herself as if he doesnt know (and then u have the plain ole regular irony of nakatsu freaking out over his sexuality re mizuki when she is ofc a girl XD) . Which will be lost if the drama goes on a while without revealing Sano's thoughts. but anyway, we shall see. I'm not jumping to any conclusions yet.

Date: 2012-08-23 06:49 pm (UTC)And Umeda sensei (the doctor) is gay, the mangaka herself admitted that yes the character is gay but the Korean version has him as a straight guy with love baggage.
I loved the Japanese version because of Ikuta Toma, he was a blast and it's clear that he was enjoying himself a lot.
Maki has portrayed male characters twice before (actual boys and has been convincing) but obviously the direction in hanakimi was not to be so convincing.

Date: 2012-08-23 11:14 pm (UTC)and I am SO glad they are doing the beach story! It was one of my faves since Sano saves Mizuki. and that was really the only time she was in any kind of direct danger, as opposed to just getting caught as a girl. So it was really dramatic. But wow it was ten times scarier in the drama. Like I watched the first 5-6 minutes of ep 4 which is where the shit goes down re Mizuki and the Creepy part timer guy and I was like terrified even tho I KNOW she is gonna be saved by Sano in the end. It was just YIKES. Also Sano/Tae Joon worrying about her was so ;_; Minho my darling you actually managed to portray an emotion on your face. I'm so proud ;_; now if only you could do that consistently....
I didnt want to spoil myself so I didnt watch more of ep 4 since its still Raw. But I HAD to get the pay off on that set up. I want to say more about it but i dont want to like spoil anyone. D: I think he DOES know she's a girl tho. Like if she was a guy why give her the sweater to cover her up? and why be so suspicious about the way the part timer was touching her? If she was a guy there's nothing really that off about how he was touching her. But if she was a girl esp in korean society he was being wildly inappropriate with an underaged girl (that he is not related to). that said even if Tae Joon KNEW she was a girl, what made him think that the part timer knew? who knows I guess. He just has that hero sense that knows when the heroine is in trouble lol. I hope we get a flashback at one point to show when Tae Joon found out. or that would a waste imo. also that thing i said about dramatic irony...
