I continue more and more obsessed. This is pretty much my perfect drama in every way.
First of all, I posted on an early awesome scene here. Now, let's continue.
Eun Soo and sexy doctor bonding over medicine. Is it me, or is he starting to get attracted to her? Not that I blame him, Kim Hee Sun is gorgeous and how likely is it that he's ever met a woman more skilled in medicine than he is?

CY barely staying on his horse. Throughout the whole scene, I kept yelling for one of those royals to give space in the freaking palanquin to the guy who almost died taking care of you! I love that it doesn't even occur to them.

Queen and Eun Soo bonding. I could totally love this sismance. I also love the way the Queen keeps sneaking peeks at herself in the mirror - this is the first time she's truly seen herself.

The King and retinue coming to the court entirely empty of courtiers...I love how the King's reaction to all of it - his powerlessness, slap to his status, yet the feeling of homecoming - is all there without his needing to say a word. Kdramas love to beat you over the head and I love that this one doesn't.

Yesssss! The awesome blacksmith lady from Legend is in this! I love her!

She tries to check him for fever and he pushes her away, but almost collapses outside. There is self-sufficiency, and there is suicidal tendencies, and it's clearly the latter. Get over your guilt and let her treat you!

And he's burning up and literally producing energy. Ummm, maybe Eun Soo could charge her cellphone off him before he dies of septicemia?

They are very pretty together. I love that Philip Lee tries so very hard without any medical stuff we consider normal. I also love that this drama showcases how limited a modern surgeon would be without modern medicines and tools.

Awww, the flashback explains so much. Both why the King hates the Yuan (and by extension his wife) so much and also awwwww, he thought she was a fellow Korean hostage and liked her and offered to rescue her and asked her to marry him so she could hold him when he was scared. OMG. Not sure if he realizes his wife is the same person (in which case, I can see why he feels betrayed) or not (in which case yeah - it could be interesting). I can see why the Queen likes him - it must feel awful to know that if she wasn't Yuan, he could really fall for her. Only I did notice him staring so maybe he does like her? Hmmmm...

He watches her! I love the look in his eyes and the way he is totally flustered and averts his face when he sees her ankles and the way he watches her eating and the way asks the servant to protect her and seriously - most adorable thing ever.

Treating his own wound. That's real smart! Also, going by past pattern of LMH dramas, the closest we will get to a shirtless scene, so enjoy!

He resigns and shows the King the order from the past King which allowed CY to return to civilian life after he completed his last duty - delivering the new King to Goryo. In some ways, this is the most significant scene in the episode to me, because the fact that he wants to leave, to have a normal life is both heartbreaking and hopeful, hopeful that he hasn't given up on himself yet - after all, seeing that he became Woodalchi at such a young age and was in Korean take on ninjas for years before that, he probably never had a normal adult, or even adolescent life. And the King refuses, saying that if he completes one task for him (solving the ministers' murders), he'll consider it. What a pointless promise - 'consider it' means absolutely nothing. I can't particularly deny the logic of the King for abusing CY's honor and loyalty (especially since it's not the first time he's done so) and for using the best instrument he has, as he is in such dire straits, but I don't have to like him for it either. Also, dude just got stabbed in the abdomen a couple of days ago. While you are ordering him about and jerking his chain, are you even at all concerned/interested whether the guy is dying or not? King makes it pretty hard for me to like him.

Firstly, am not happy that CY's eyesight is blurring from how sick he is, - he's pretty much functioning on will-power and sheer stubborness by now. Get treatment, idiot, before you die! Secondarily, I love all the games between him and Ki Young - they are awesome to watch. And thirdly, it's official - I want Lee Min Ho to make out with everyone in the cast, Ki Young included.

Bwahahahaha, Eun Soo turned her pants into shorts because they tore, and everyone is mesmerized/freaked out by seeing legs!

Including our sexy on-the-brink-of-the-grave-but-maybe-not-quite-if-he's-ogling general. (Later he totally tells her to cover her legs. Heeeeee. Someone is freaking out and jealous :))

A gorgeous underdressed woman storms in past all the guards, demands you take off your shirt and demands your hand. Some men would consider it the ultimate fantasy. Poor CY just looks cornered. :P Joking aside, the following scene is my favorite in the episode, because he won't let her treat him and she cries that it's his fault she is not home and she just wants to be in her apartment and take a shower but she can't (and the guilty look on his face - it's clear why he doesn't want/feel he deserves treatment) and that since this isn't a dream, it means she stabbed someone and so she needs to make him better. And everyone leaves to give them privacy, and he tells her she should have left him to die, and she keeps worrying (and she does manage to get his pulse and temperature - to nobody's surprise, he's burning up) and he tells her if she'll keep talking about all the dire things that can happen to him, he'll close her lips properly (mmmm, please!) and there is pushing against the pillar and their chemistry is seriously insane and I love how fearless she is. But what really gets him is when she half-whispers 'don't die.' He really is the most connection/most familiar thing for her in this place. And I think it gets him because when is the last time someone cared so unguardedly, especially if that someone is a beautiful woman whom he wronged. Oh, and once she leaves, he collapses in pain, completing this ultimate h/c scene.

Bonus hot baddies...

Date: 2012-08-22 03:07 am (UTC)The writer and director of this did my favorite period kdrama ever, Legend, which was also a fantasy/history hybrid, so I had pretty high expectations - I didn't realize they were going to channel my id as well. Also, I don't think Lee Min Ho ever looked better.

Date: 2012-08-22 04:45 am (UTC)1. I love that people from Legend keep popping up as characters in this. So far I've counted three actor/actresses from Legend.
2. I've seen several people complaining that Eun Soo is whinny and immature, but I don't see it. I mean, she thinks she's dreaming. Than, she realizes that she's somehow time traveled. So, if she thinks she's dreaming, of course she's going to complain. Maybe that will change the dream. And now that she's realizing the truth (and there is no TARDIS around), of course she's scared and freaking out a bit. ES is actually one of the most realistic time travelers I've seen in a drama - ever.
3. Overall I really love how realistic the drama is in terms of the little things. Like some people holding some prejudiced ideas against the princess and Yuan. Or how ES knows all about modern medical issues, but has no ideas about the past; she's really stuck on modern things. Or how her homemade shorts were uneven. (Also loved that everyone was enthralled by her legs. lol.)
4. I want to punch the minister. The King needs to grow up, but I'm hoping he gets that 'growing up and become a great King' arc. Loving the Princess. Hoping she and ES have more bonding/friendship scenes.
5. The chemistry between our two leads is amazing!

I love ES - nobody will talk me out of it :)

Date: 2012-08-22 04:53 am (UTC)I am surprised I'm not more into Lee Minho's character. There just isn't enough balance in his personality for me (laziness vs. devotion) and I feel whiplashed. But that's more the writing than anything, though I'm not too impressed by his performance either.

Date: 2012-08-22 05:55 am (UTC)I am kind of curious as to how JB and ES's relationship will work out. He is impressed with her skills but when it comes to her dignity as a doctor, I think he feels a bit of derision maybe? And she is supposed to be a heavenly healer.
I lovelove ES. I love her being a little off-center. She can be this skilled doctor, but then again she's just this woman who has so many quirks it's adorable. The bit where she really choked on her food and was asking for water. Lol. And she made the stoic CY smile. Awwww.
CY. Just get the treatment already!!! Ugh. But it's funny how he treats the heavenly healer without any sort of reverence.
Why do I get the feeling I'll be enjoying the mute girl and ES's scenes together? Lol. Such contrasts.
I felt so bad for CY. He just wants a normal, quiet life. But the king...
Sorry, boys. Her legs are only for him to ogle. So get out. Lol. I wish we get more scenes for them. I'm really enjoying their chemistry. Re-watched that last scene again. And yes, her pet name for him is "Psycho", but she should know not to name him or else she'll get attached. But she is already on some level because yes, so far, he's the only one that she really has a connection with, no matter how bizzare that is.
Another week till the next episodes.
I can do this.

Date: 2012-08-22 12:07 pm (UTC)CY doesn't have reverence for anyone - I love it. Not even the King. He is bound by his honor but that doesn't lead him to respecting authority.
The King should diaf - let him go, the job is quite literally killing him.
LOL about your pet name comment. I do hope he'll follow her home :)

Date: 2012-08-22 04:59 pm (UTC)The flashback did explain a lot between the king and queen, he was first happy to meet a fellow countryman only to realize that this is the woman
they want him to marry.
Awww, hopefully they'll show more bonding between the queen and our lady doc. I loved how she starts putting on makeup on the queen, she looked all happy afterwards.

Date: 2012-08-23 03:49 pm (UTC)When Eun-Soo entreated Choi Young not to die because what would she do without him? Eun-Soo will be the reason for Choi Young to not search out death willingly now, huh?
The King and Queen's relationship is such a romance novel. Guy is forced to marry. Meets and becomes friends with a stranger who he later finds out is the girl that he is forced to marry.

Date: 2012-08-23 04:17 pm (UTC)I think she is already his reason to live, even if he isn't yet fully/consciously in love with her - because as he told the King, he owes her to return her.
I ship the King and Queen so hard - there is such an awesome possibility for a great romance there!
