Answer to 1997 is such a hidden little gem of a drama and I wish more people were aware of it. I have nothing in common with Shi Won at all (I had zero interest in pop music or fandom in general in high school) but nonetheless, she and the rest of them feel so real.

How she can be obsessed with an idol she's never met when her gorgeous best friend is right next to her, pining for her, is beyond me, but I am not a teen fangirl. I have no idea if Shi Won/Yoon Jae will be the endgame (there IS Yoon Jae's older brother and I can see her with him instead. It would realistic even if it would make me spit nails), but for now I am just enjoying and shipping the heck out of them...

For those who are wondering whether I abandoned my great love Bridal Mask - never fear. I've been hoarding the episodes so I can watch them on the weekend - in order to be able to binge on two eps at once AND be awake and fully functional and appreciative when I watch. Spoil me and die.

Never! Gaksital is still my favorite of the airing dramas. It's just that I always wanted to watch it properly - two episodes at once, and sufficiently awake to truly feel everything. And with the new shinies during this week, I finally got enough distraction to fight of temptation and do just what I wanted - watch it on the weekend.

I have no problem with her ending with Tae Woong tbh.

People do think it is creep since he is older and a teacher.

But I think he don't teach the girls, plus he isn't that older.

I don't know why but people have a double standard about it.

If the girl is older by 10 years than the guy everyone loves the noona romance, but when the guy is 10 years they say he is too older for the girl, that she should find a guy of the same age and all. I mean, look at big! She was older, she was his teacher and everyone shipped them!

But they can't ship Tae-woong with Shi Won because he is older and a teacher? But shipped KJ and Gil Daran teacher? Oh please.

But people who think it is weird/complicate because he was her sister's fiancee, I understand why... but I still have no problem with it lol. I guess I want a more dramatic love. If Yoon Jae confess it is end game.

But I would do ship Yoon Jae and Shi Won too. I'm happy with whoever she ends with ^^

Maybe they didn't let us know his exact age for that reason. Gil Daran was about 6 years older than Kang Kyung Joon, so there wasn't a big gap between them, and he's never really treated her as his teacher lol.

I'm not concerned with his relationship with his sister, but part of me thinks that his love for her could be an extension of his love for her sister, with their mentor/mentee relationship and his initial spark to her was how she asked him for something reminded him of her sister. I have no problem with his liking her though.

I really wanted Yoon Jae to confess though :3 Halfway into the story is not too early for me, because she doesn't show any obvious signs of liking him back. It would give her some time to think it over.

Fangirls can be harsh on noona stories too - look at Faith and all the comments prior to its airing that Kim Hee Sun is/looks old enough to be Lee Min Ho's mother when she's only 10 yrs older than he is and looks fantastic, or that she's too old to be cast with him, never mind that she was cast years before he was. And there are a bunch of different gender expectations and power balance that come into play when a man is the older one vs. when a woman is.

And with Big, even though I didn't ship it, I do have to point out that KKJ was her student or even in a teen body during their interactions for about two days. I can be fine with a student/teacher story if done properly but my default is ick unless the drama convinces me otherwise and this one hasn't spent much time on them.

Most importantly, I could get past everything else except for the fact that he was her dead sister's fiance. That's just gross and also I have not been convinced he doesn't just like her for the similarities with the sister, which is not a recipe for a happy relationship.

I think this is an important distinction to point out, seeing as how age tends to get confused with maturity. And I agree that Shi-won isn't ready in any sort of capacity to be in a relationship, and I think her sasaeng fangirlism over H.O.T. traps her in an immature mentality. She ends up regretting her actions as a sasaeng fan under mistaken assumptions 'Tony oppa' would 'definitely' like this (only to find out he's disgusted or annoyed) or that she knows what would be good for him, but she hasn't gotten to the root of why her intentions and thought process that goes along with it are problematic in the first place. Or for whose happy fulfillment she's actually doing these things. On the other hand, Shi-won has shown the capacity to analyze why his reaction might be that of disgust or annoyance, so she IS getting there... just not fully there yet.

I think it's possible for attraction to start out misplaced and then righted at the end of having fallen in love, but you're right that there isn't much for us to go by right now that he likes Shi-won beyond a few similarities with her sister. I assumed that he did by the present-day seeing as how I don't think Shi-won would be able to put up with that and still maintain intimate relations with him, which is why I don't have a problem with the SW/TW pairing. With that said, there's really no evidence there yet as you've pointed out. Despite his maturity, I don't think Tae-woong has really moved past his girlfriend's death as he thinks he is, seeing as how his attraction is still dependent on qualities that remind him of his girlfriend...

I do not ship her with the older brother but it has nothing to do with the age. Just the fact that he was with her sister - I'll never believe his feelings aren't at least somewhat influenced/left-over from her and that squicks me out!

I have a lot more in common with the main character but couldn't get into the drama. I even have an HOT CD that I got in high school (I liked kang ta) and I used to talk about them with all of my Vietnamese immigrant classmates. I could also relate to trying to get brand name stuff but seeing knock-offs and a few other things that I saw.
