I need Faith to be here right now. It's giving off a cdrama vibe and there are few things I love as much as a period cdrama...

Also, I found a synopsis for King of Lan Ling with Feng Shao Feng and Ariel Lin.

Fourteen hundred years ago, the Northern Dynasties was wracked by incessant wars. The Northern Qi Dynasty under the leadership of Lan Ling Wang (the king of Lan Ling, Feng Shao Feng) built a solid wall to protect the kingdom from a powerful enemy.

During a fight with the Northern Zhou troops, Lan Ling Wang stumbled upon a reclusive village (Bai Shan) on the border of the two countries. Bai Shan descendant Yang Xue Wu (Ariel) thus became embroiled in the battle between Lan Ling Wang and Northern Zhou Dynasty Emperor Yu Wen Wong (Daniel). Despite her grandmother’s opposition, Xue Wu and Lan Ling Wang fell in love. Yu Wen Yong plotted to gain control of Xue Wu in order to win the support of Bai Shan Village in his war against the Northern Qi Dynasty. He tried repeatedly to break up the relationship of Xue Wu and Lanling, who after numerous sufferings, managed to overcome all obstacles and got married.

Under Lan Ling Wang’s governance, Lan Ling kingdom prospered and became the richest fief in the Qi Dynasty. Northern Qi Emperor Gao Zhan Wen heaped praises on Lan Ling Wang, sparking the jealousy of the crown prince (the emperor’s son). The crown prince visited the emperor one night and begged him not to pass the throne to Lan Ling Wang. As they argued and fought, the prince accidentally killed the emperor and became the new emperor. He then plotted to pass the blame on to Lan Ling Wang and Yang Xue Wu. Whatever happened, Xue Wu was determined to die with Lan Ling Wang.

Umm, between that synopsis and the fact that the historical Lan Ling Wang was forced to commit suicide by the Emperor, I foresee a giant rocks-fall-everyone-dies ending. I'd be hoping they changed it - after all if Eighth Prince can survive and find happiness in Gong, anything is possible - but Gong was the reason this is impossible as the censors came down on historical inaccuracies like a ton of bricks afterwards. Eeek. Also, I assume they are going to leave out the part where despite LLW himself being a sterling individual, a giant chunk of his relatives seemed to be rapey incestuous bastards. Xue Wu is a brave woman to take on those genetics - I mean, what are the odds that you picked the only non-psycho one in the bunch?

Oh, and when is Patriot Yue Fei coming out? I need it in my life.

Dayum! I haven't watched a Mainland period drama in a while. But seeing that trailer makes me think I need to make room in my schedule RIGHT NOW! :)

Doesn't it look amazing?

Also, I believe HBO bought the rights or similar, so I might actually got subs!

The trailer for King of Lan Ling (if you click on King of LAN Ling tag, you can find it in an earlier post) also looks amazing. cdramas are looking good lately!

Yeah I read somewhere that it was going to be on HBO this fall. I hope that sort of thing becomes a trend.

I want Patriot Yue Fei sooooo bad. I just came back from China, where they were rebroadcasting ROCH 06 for summer break, and it rekindled my wuxia and cdrama love like burning. Of course that drama has its draggy, cringy bits, but everyone is so pretty! Even if I eventually got sick of Xiaolongnu, because all the interesting bits would happen when she wasn't around. It doesn't help that HXM's hot Yang Guo looks great with everyone from Lu Wushuang to Yang Mi's Guo Xiang.

OT: Have you ever watched Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils 2003, or Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre (any version really but 2003 is probably best)?
DGSD is probably one of my favorite wuxias ever in terms of overall story

ROCH 2006 was either my first or second cdrama. I remember watching it on a portable player on DVD on a long flight from East Coast to San Diego, and this older Asian woman sitting next to me saw what I was watching, did a double take, and we ended up sharing headphones and watching it together, with her helpfully pointing out various bad guys on their first appearance :) It was fun.

I started DGSD and got distracted but I loved what I saw. I need to continue
