Speculation about INR 2012

Am watching ep 7 and I think I figured out why SH is so standoffish even though it's clear he loves Yeol Mae. The lightbulb went on when she mentioned in ep 7 that effort someone named "Gi Hoon" died, she and SH even exchanged rings and had a fake wedding (plus, in school flashback, while he is not Mr Oversharing, he is nowhere near emotionally withdrawn the way he is now and if he did a pretend wedding, he clearly wasn't always an extreme commitment-phobe). And SH lost it at her reminder. Plus, he keeps thinking its better for we not to like him and/or know his secret.

So, my theory - due to Korean naming conventions, I assume the dead GH was SH's brother. And he died from some hereditary illness that SH either has, worries he may get, or (though that is a stretch, thinks his kids will get). Ergo, avoidance.

Now normally, people would talk this out but this is a drama and SH is not the most emotionally mature so...

We will see how right I am.

Also omg, why is the secondary guy so boooooring???

I haven't been watching, so I don't know if context supports this... but maybe GH had fallen in love with YM and either didn't know about SH's feelings for her and was dreaming about being with her when he got better... or he did know about SH's feelings and they fought over it right before GH died tragically. Either way, SH now feels guilty being with her because GH can't.

And that is why he won't get the girl, because the girl will always end up with the guy who was a jerk to her.

Btw, I also think that his brother has something to do with it.

But I also thought that maybe YS can't have kids and since YM wants it I think he doesn't want to marry her....... ?

Definitely a brother or something.

Until episode 6, I was pretty bored with everyone except Yeolmae and SH. I found myself wishing that the feisty friend was a bit more faboo, like the feisty friend in INR original. Then, episode 6 happened to give some complexity to the supposedly feisty friend, rendering her quite different from the original's feisty friend. (Yes, I'm too lazy to go look up their names... :P)

I like the second lead, though I'm still only at Ep 6. He seems cool, but it's so obvious that he doesn't have a hell of a chance with YM. Her relationship with SH is, even if fraught with communication difficulties, so rich and deep, quite different from the philandering ass that was the long-time boyfriend in the original INR. Also, I was not into LJW but LJW as SH is pretty awesome.

I'm actually annoyed by the younger writer character.

All in all, the supporting characters feel so peripheral, even at episode 6. This was not the case at all with the original INR. The friends were much more interesting, the friendships much richer, the actresses much more colorful, and the second lead so incredibly charming.

I wonder what's the deal...

I am still bored with all the secondaries but I often am, in kdramas - as long as I love the leads, I am good.
