Bye-bye, Big! It's not me, it's you!
Jul. 10th, 2012 05:43 pmEleven episodes in and it's time to face the truth - when I spend 10 minutes watching each ep at extreme fast-forward and it still feels too long, it's time to quit. Life's too short, with too many other fun things to do.
I can't really pinpoint one huge glaring weakness in writing or acting - both are OK. The problem is that this is a character piece where none of the characters, their interactions or their dilemmas, interest or emotionally involve me one bit. So I am left with nothing. I mean, I don't care if an asteroid wipes out every character from Big tomorrow. And that's a bad sign, especially since there is no plot I am dying to follow despite lack of character investment.

Date: 2012-07-10 10:49 pm (UTC)I've kept up somewhat with Dramabeans' recaps in the hopes that it might get better... I guess...? Sometimes I find myself bored and try to keep watching, but give up after a couple of minutes.
Also, I really hate the heroine.
It's amazing how much I looooooooved "My Girlfriend is a Gumiho" and "My Girl"... while other Hong Sisters' dramas like "Best Love" and "Big" left me completely COLD.

Maybe it's a matter of a bunch of little things, then one or two glaring faults, because like you say, nobody out and out sucks here, the directing's fine, I like the music, not the main girl so much, but she's adequate, and Gong Yoo seems to be doing better as Kang Kyung Joon.
Maybe the Hong sisters are trying to change their style around, because there are mostly comic scenes that seem to come out of nowhere, like the recent eps venture into the past (rather random), and so on. And the troubling nature of the OTP, one way or another, also had created problems. I also wonder if the body switch plot tied the Hong sisters hands more then they thought it would.

Date: 2012-07-11 01:55 am (UTC)It doesn't actively annoy me the way Best Love did, nor does my inner feminist raise her sleeping head, the way it did with YAB, I just...don't care.
I really think the body swap tied them up. It's a cool gimmick but the drama doesn't really have much to say beyond it - I always love their dramas best when they have something interesting (emotionally or otherwise) to say.

Date: 2012-07-11 04:12 am (UTC)I don't get it. This is a drama that I should probably want to watch desperately. I love Gong Yoo. I've watched any number of body swap Kdramas and haven't disliked one yet that I can think of but this show leaves me cold and I haven't even watched one episode. I don't understand.
How many episodes are left? Maybe they're saving the best for last.

Date: 2012-07-11 04:22 am (UTC)I don't feel excited about anything that is going on in that drama. Family secret? Meh. Gil Da Ran falling for Kyung Joon finally? Meh. The doctor was a cheater? Meh, who cares.
I think the main problem for me is that the characters are not fascinating enough. They have cute interactions but they are not amazing on their own. And I don't feel attracted to Gong Yoo in this, which is shallow of me but it's the truth...If the heroine is not interesting, and I have no reaction to the hero, then I won't be excited by their romance in the slightest.

Date: 2012-07-11 05:40 am (UTC)Because to me it's like saying okay we swapped, gave her enough time to get confused spent enough time confusing the audience over YJ's backstory and all and then watched her fall in love with the boy and then...whatever else they come up with. Thing is, HS like to do their stories fast paced and full of cute. This drama, while cute, is far from fast paced. It's not even slow paced. It feel like a snail trying to make it to finish line.
I think the only reason I watched this drama was because I love Gong Yoo and this drama gives me plenty of him to enjoy. It's shallow but that's about all I can invest in. I love Lee Min Jung personally but I haven't loved her character so much in this show.
