The awesome, awesome, awesome (there are not enough 'awesomes') ockoala of marvelous Koala's Playground has just linked me to the official 3-minute trailer and 7-min footage of the upcoming period/fantasy/romance/wuxia cdrama King of Lan King, starring Feng Shao Feng (!!!!!!) and Ariel Lin (!!!!!!) as star-crossed lovers.

There appears to be:

Lots of kissing and making out between the OTP.

FSH's bodyguard/second in command loves Ariel Lin from afar and protects her even when his lord cannot.

Daniel Chan as the King of Zhou also loves Ariel, and she becomes the Empress of the Zhou dynasty in name when she is led to believe her husband the King of Lan Ling is dead (but he's not).

We have warring Chinese kingdoms all fighting over the same girl.

Apparently the meet cute is super duper cute between the OTP.

Every word you type makes me crave this more and more (it's like a much less insane QSHF, with a female lead I adore as opposed to being 'oh, OK' on).

How does one become Queen in name? Does she buy a chastity belt or something? I mean, I am all for staying faithful to my my cdrama crush FSF but it is peculiar.

Ahhhh, when I think of all the possibility for angst, I want to roll on the ground in glee.

The OTP is going to KILL me (and from the trailer, they have great chemistry).

If you tell me Daniel Chan is eeeeeeeeeevil, my day will be entirely made.

MAAAAAASKS. The battle scenes in masks are going to be so hot tbh.

FSF has been getting quite a bit of hate in Youtube comments/Chinese forums because apparently he's not beautiful enough to play Lan Ling wang tbh. (Personally I think FSF looks p.great in any hairstyle, which is getting kind of weird because even the half-braid looks great to me now.)

The OTP gets married so fast after they meet! It was a duty thing, but they fall in love for real! I am prepared to savour all the cute domestic scenes we are going to get, esp. since their love seems to be ~doomed by the heavens from the start. And then FSF says, in voiceover, "I'm not afraid. I only know that if I let you go today, I'll miss you until it becomes a sickness, and regret it for the rest of my life. That is the future I imagine without you." OH THE ANGST

The battle scenes in masks - oh my!

FSF haters, be gone! Is he as flawless as Chen Kun? Nah, but he's hot and, I agree, rocks even the half-braid, which I previously thought impossible.

Oh, I am sure they are doomed - a period cdrama in which OTP has a lot of happiness up front is going to END IN DOOOOOM.

Koala told me upthread at one point Ariel marries Daniel Chan believing FSF to be dead only he isn't. Can you imagine the aaaaaaangst?

Also, the real Prince of Lan Ling didn't get a happy ending so...

Basically, FSF plays a legendary general, the titular character, who wore a mask in battle because his good looks were simply too distracting (that's the legend, they are not making it up). There is a love triangle between him, his OTP and wife Ariel and the Emperor of Zhou, played by Daniel Chan.

In real history, I think he was a brother of the emperor of one of the fractured kingdoms, the brother was jealous/scared of his popularity/military ability and had him put to death, only to have his own kingdom overrun by Zhou 4 yrs later (I am sure killing off his best general didn't help) but I don't know how much of that they are going to use in the drama.
