I need (and will) make a proper, coherent and lengthy Bridal Mask eps 3-4 post - I want to talk about how it's an adrenaline rush, but also incredibly dark (I have never seen recent kdramas go some places it goes to) and how I hoped it would be a cross between City Hunter and Capital Scandal but it is so much much more (and turns the intensity up by 800%) but I am both brain dead and high from the eps now, so all I can do is post this:

I think the crown for the most fucked up OTP in kdrama history has been claimed.

I mean! My God!

Also, they were most adorable kids ever and it was his father's knife and his most precious thing OMFG.

Nobody is getting out of this drama alive, are they?

I've only seen the raw of episode 4 and holy shit! I love how he turns to mush when he realizes it's her. It was almost like he got his humanity back when he realized what he's done to the girl he's been in love with for years. And I have no idea how these two are gonna get together. She HATES him and she has tried to kill him multiple times so far.

HOW am I gonna wait for next week???

Yeah, this OTP has no chance of a happy ending. The preview for ep 5 shows him taking her to the hospital and strong-arming the doctor to treat her even though she's not Japanese but I am sure she is going to be unconscious during it and not know. They tried to kill each other multiple times now - it's going to be hard to progress to roses and rainbows.

Yeah, I loved it when he just collapsed when he found out who she was and flashed to all the horrible stuff he did to her. OMG.

But my favorite scene was his breakdown with Kang San. It killed me.

I'm still gonna try to hold onto some hope. Both have them have been through so much and we've only seen their backstories! I can't even begin to imagine the anguish the writers have in store for them over the next episodes.

JW breaks down so beautifully. Even though he's been such a bastard, the look in his eyes when he realizes it's her and cradling her after she's been shot makes me want to forgive him for everything.

That was so hard to watch. Poor KT, everything he's done has been in vain. And KS has such a pivotal part in turning KT into who he is today. He knew the feelings KT had to turn him to the Japanese side and yet he does nothing. It's the ultimate betrayal.

Re: hope. Stranger things have happened. If Princess' Man can have a happy ending, anything can.

JW is amazing. I hate him when he is mistreating the people (we see him torturing someone on screen!) but the moment he let's his shields down, when he cradles her or with his brother, I just want to weep for that sweet brave little boy and the desperation and despair that turned him into this.

Yeah, I can't see KT getting over the fact that KS let him sell his soul for nothing. You know if he knew KS was sane, he'd never be where he is now.

True, and I was so relieved about that. I'm just gonna hope that these two will be in the resistance movement together by the end or have escaped to another country. Honestly though, the time period also makes me worry that they won't have a happy ending. How can they as long as the Japanese occupy?

It's so so sad. I hate what he's become but I can completely understand.

Exactly, that is what makes me so angry. KT wouldn't have this heartache. He let his little brother become a monster. It's just horrifying to think about when KT is going to realize all he's lost because of his idolized older brother.

I am ok with an open ending - they continue to fight the Japanese but are alive. That would be enough for me (because after the occupation we get the Korean War - it is a horrible time period). I am mad curious about her reaction when she finds out who KT really is.

I love that th drama explains but does not justify.

I cannot believe KS kept up with his charade even once he saw his brother was about to join the Japanese out of anger and desperation. Wtf, big bro!

Same here. I'd be okay with an ending like Capital Scandal had.

Exactly. How do you forgive someone for allowing that to happen to you?

I like Kang San and he is obviously screwed up, but what he put his family through is unconscionable.

I mean, leaving aside what it so awfully did to KT, how about the Mom?

That is my main problem with KS. He's so preoccupied with saving everyone else but he doesn't have his family as his first priority.

OMG his mom. It's really going to break her heart. I can't even imagine. But maybe if he dies then KT will just not tell her the truth. I could see him trying to do that to protect her.

I can see keeping certain things from the family in order to be a masked vigilante - pretending to be lazy and unambiguous or a playboy or (as I am sure KT will do) still working for the Japanese, I can all see. But pretending to be insane/mentally deficient is beyond the pale - what he put his family through has no excuse except that he is very messed up.

Plus, whatever his fears about KY turning him in (and KT would not be in a position to turn him in if it wasn't for KS' pretending) his mom would never turn him in!

I feel the same way. God, it would be one thing to have the outside world think he was that way but to let his family grieve for him is inexcusable.

On another note, I'm thinking that KT is going to pick up the Bridal Mask disguise to save MD this week. Did you see the preview for ep 5? I have a strong feeling that it's KT.

Dunno why, but I'm rooting for him & the Japanese spy girl (Han Chae Ah). They both have issues with Joseon & patriotism, I want hot angry se- I mean chemistry please.

I wanted Shunji to win Mok Dan heart... such an awwwww moment in episode 4. I'm kinda offended when Mok Dan labeled him as the bad guy since he's Japanese. Girl, the guy just saved you and protected you against his best friend.

I am firmly on the main ship because this will produce the maximum angst and damage, but Shunji is awfully sweet and I wish we could clone Dan and give him a copy (you know she has no future with Kang To).

Re: Japanese comment - she was hurt and scared and lashing out, but yeah, he risked a he'll if a lot for her, she shouldn't have said that,

Yes, this is the most gloriously fucked up thing ever. He shot her after she tried to kill him, wearing a mask and this is the aftermath.

I lovelovelove the scene of him cradling her in the street. And the scene of him confessing to his brother. All of that was just... beautiful.

It doesn't come up much (though more often now) but underneath his beastly acting out, KT is capable of some amazing tenderness - it's that he tried to bury it as much as he could and it's all coming back out with Dan.

But nothing got me as much as his scene with his brother - he was just such a frightened little kid, seeking solace even though knowing he won't get it, and being tormented by his choices and pouring his heart out. The fact that the drama can make me desperately care for someone who it earlier shown performing acts of utter brutality, it a testament to how good the writing and acting is.

I have to agree that they're the most screwed up kdrama couple ever. I've been a bit shocked every time KT did some new awful thing to her – first when he was responsible for her father's capture leading to death sentence in ep 1, when he had her tortured in ep 2, and in this episode, when he found out who she was and still intended to kill her (though his behavior at the end of the episode leaves me unconvinced that he would be able to go through with it) – but shocked in a good way. I love that they are going there, and not holding back on making them as much enemies as it is possible for two people to be. Enemies as lovers is one of my biggest kinks so I just have no words for how perfect this ship is for me.

As for the ending, it certainly doesn't look good, but I'll keep on hoping until the bitter end. It's not completely impossible that they'll do what The Princess's Man did and have KT seriously injured, but let him and MD escape to live in obscurity while others carry on the fight, or something. I wonder how the manhwa that this is based on ends.

Also, per the comments above, I also really wonder why KS didn't tell KT the truth. I mean, maybe now he thinks KT is too deeply involved with the Japanese to change sides, but what about when KT first decided to join the police? If he had said something then, it would definitely have made a difference, and presumably he didn't want his brother to become a Japanese collaborator... so why did he just let it happen? I hope there's a good reason for it and not just “because it was necessary for the plot.”

I think KS was just not thinking clearly - he is obviously very screwed up. I can understand his doing what he did, even if I don't condone it (which are also my feelings about KT).

I would love your ending! I think KT is doomed by drama law thigh because of the bad things he did. I hope not though.

It's pretty clear KT would never be able to harm a hair on Dan's head, now he knows who she is. Even in the restaurant with Shunji, when he kept going on and on, it was clear he was just trying to convince himself of something he knew was untrue, rebelling against what he really felt, knowing it futile (and also perhaps masochistically looking to get hit).

Ahh, I ship them so. Even though they are wontons dysfunctional - when PSH went off the rails in TPM and kidnapped MCW, was nothing on that.
