1. My Kindle went to its maker last night. I turned it on, and a bunch of lines showed up all over. This is exactly how my old Kindle died, but it was fine since by that point I had it for years and it was literally held together with duct tape. This Kindle I only had for a few months. Thankfully, Amazon has been awesome and I am getting a free replacement early next week. Meanwhile, I have put a Kindle app on my iPad because I am like an addict with crack - need my fix.

2. Speaking of books, I have just finished Daisy Godwin's The American Heiress. I think I could sum it up as "what if Consuelo Vanderbilt married someone who was not an utter loser." The story centers around Cora Cash, the richest heiress of the Gilded Age. Her ambitious, steely mother would like nothing more than for her daughter to marry into the upper echelons of the English nobility and takes her over to England for that reason. Luckily for that plan, Cora falls in love with the impoverished but very blue-blooded Ivo, ninth Duke of Wareham. Happy ending, right? Not really - their worlds are very different and Cora often feels like a fish out of water. More importantly, her new surroundings are shrouded in mysteries and secrets, some of which are huge enough to destroy her marriage.

It's a very good novel - I loved the period detail, the leisurely pace that is nonetheless not dull, and characters themselves - neither Cora nor Ivo nor any of the others peopling the book are flawless but they are all understandable and more or less sympathetic.

3. Chuck - eeee! I watched the ep with the truth serum and the bit where Chuck asked Sarah as to whether she saw them having a future and she said no and his face and then it turned out she's been trained to lie under truth serum. My heart! It really shows her feelings though because if she felt nothing, she'd have no problem leading him on. But she doesn't want to admit she feels for him even to herself. Also, aaawwww at Ellie and Awesome having a functional relationship.

4. I tried History of the Salaryman and it's smart and funny but I don't think I can do black comedy for 20 eps. A movie, sure. A series, nope.

5. Everyone loves Wild Romance but I remain cautious because except for Lee Dong Wook, I don't like anyone in the cast and the promos seem so OTT.

6. Cuidado con el Angel continues to be excellent and deliiiish.

7. I just finished ep 7 of Haven and I am beginning to see where the threesome fans are coming from :P

My kindle broke twice in the first year, both times in exactly that way. Amazon seems to have a very lenient warranty policy for cracked screens- I know a lot of people who've had the same problem. But I love my Kindle anyway... a hard case might be worth it!

My screen wasn't cracked this time - apparently they have a line issue in general :(

But yes, I love my kindle, warts and all.

I really liked The American Heiress! The premise was intriguing enough to get me to check it out from my local library, and I was pleasantly surprised at how engaging the writing was.

I have a feeling that History of the Salaryman might just be up my alley. I like black comedy.

Wild Romance seems to be one of those dramas you either like or don't. I haven't been able to muster up interest so far.

Haven --- yeah. ^^

Btw. have you seen Mookiehyun's post about Rooftop Prince? Looks like it could be quite hilarious.

You have just convinced me to watch Haven :-) Small town mystery with a side of supernatural? I am so there.

Okay 20 mins in and I am obsessed. I like that it takes place in a picturesque town and the slight twin peaks vibe.

I'd advise against Wild Romance. It starts out really fun but gets boring and stupid really quick. It just took more and more turns in plot that i thought were completely pointless and made the drama a total drag to watch. I wont spoil in case you decide to watch it but I frankly stopped watching and I dont regret it for a minute.
As for history of salaryman I'd say its not just a black comedy, it also has romance, suspense, melodrama, etc. also the "battles" are so fun and intense. but eh if its not your thing its not your thing.

Thanks re WR - it did seem not my bag.

Yeah, Salaryman is a drama I can appreciate but not my thing.

This is EXACTLY what happened to my Kindle, unfortunately a month after the expiration of the one-year warranty, so I would have had to pay for a replacement (and I couldn't use a gift card to pay.) So I just bought one of the really cheap Kindle 4 models with my gift card. I just need to find something to do with the old case.

I do like the Kindle for traveling, but I feel like this is the sort of issue that's going to stop me from ever completely abandoning the paper books!

I do the Kindle thing for travelling too but agreed - the line issue and the impermanence pretty much leads to me buying any book I really love in paper copy.

I dropped History of a Salaryman... Very different and original but a little too much for me I guess.
I loooove Wild Romance. Starts very wacky but it gets quite interesting (everything is going to get tied at the end) and I might say after ep 14 that it has a sad, darkish note to it. Very interesting and smart I might say. Plus I have a crush on Oh Man Suk, real actor.

I think for now I am sticking to my two teen dramas but I'll see how it goes if my schedule frees up
