Hanbando - single-handedly bringing me out of my drama slump

It's pretty clear I am in a slump - the airing dramas either don't appeal to me or their vibe is wrong for my current mood.

I am getting mad IRIS vibes from it, and that was one of my all-time favorite dramas. Nothing wrong with melos and romcoms but sometimes a gal just wants something different. Something different with violence, h/c, and Hwang Jung Min clutching Kim Jung Eun for dear life.

Btw, it's official, I am dumping Moon/Sun. It's not me, it'd you, drama! Koala referred to it as simplistic and I agree. She likes it but I can't. This is pretty much a Disney sageuk and that is very much not my thing - I like twisty politics and complex shades-of-grey characters which usually abound in sageuks, and both are absent here. There is nothing wrong with a very straightforward white hats/black hats period romance but is really not my thing.

MoonSun isn't gelling together for me either. I'll probably continue reading recaps but it lost me the minute little Hwon left the screen. Maybe if all u wanna talk about is fated love then u should move ur story to the present... Which is why I'm now more excited to see Rooftop Prince.

I was on board with IRIS until the last two or three episodes. I just couldn't take the insane craziness it devolved into, and the plot holes big enough to drive a 747 through. But I loved its tone and of course Lee Byung-heon can pretty much make anything amazing. Hanbando is tickling my fancy for all the same reasons IRIS did, but I'm hoping that it can steer clear of repeating IRIS's mistakes. I'm not a huge fan of Kim Jung-eun, but I don't hate her either, and I don't think I've ever seen anything with Hwang Jung-min before. The premise is gripping and interesting, and it looks gorgeous to boot (always a plus). Can't wait for this to start next week!

History of The Salaryman not your thing?! It's such a clever and witty drama EVERYONE should be watching it!

MoonSun is boring, I dropped it just days ago.

But ditto on Hanbando, I'm also very excited for this! Not because of the IRIS vibe (since I kinda loathed the drama from Ep 5 onwards, it's just me hehe), but because I think Hwang Jung Min's gonna be great in here? And this coming from a solid writer and PD, hopefully it will deliver.

I tried Salaryman and it's funny but it's very much not my thing, especially for 16+ hours (in a movie, possibly).
