Jan. 8th, 2012 03:55 pmI like Reporter Lady but (as of ep 12) she's being kinda insane.
OK, your one-night stand with Tae Bum made you preggers and you want to keep the baby.
Fair enough.
But hounding him to marry you is insane! The one-night stand was fully consensual and involved two adults, both of whom seem to have been too stupid to use protection. These people were not in a romantic relationship with each other either prior or after the one-night stand. TB isn't forcing Reporter Lady to have an abortion (though you can tell he'd love it) and, in fact, says if she's wants to keep the baby, he'll pay alimony.
That's all he has to do. To marry a random coworker because she's pregnant is pretty insane. I am sure this will work out if they get hitched because this is a kdrama, but in RL, talk about a recipe for an awful marriage.
So her acting like he's the biggest jerk because he doesn't want to get married, is insane. I understand Korea has a stigma attached to single mothers, but even with that, her demands are insane. He didn't rape you in an alley and he plans to support and acknowledge the child. That is all one is required to do by conscience.
Reporter Lady, chill out!

Date: 2012-01-10 01:44 am (UTC)It makes sense within the conservative culture which stigmatizes single mothers but there is no way I am thinking RSY is evil for not wanting to marry her.

Date: 2012-01-09 03:02 am (UTC)You know this kind of "arranged" marriage does often happen often in real life, esp. in Asian countries. Guy and girl get it on. Girl gets pregnant. Guy is "honor-bound" to "take responsibility" for what happened by marrying her, no matter how they might feel about getting married. If they don't marry, the guy gets labeled an irresponsible jerk and the girl a slut. And then there's the bullying their child has to endure for being born out of wedlock. More often than not, the parents themselves force the marriage to avoid this - especially if the guy and girl are still young. Commonsense tends to get thrown out the window when reputation is involved.
I don't agree with this whole thing, and I believe forcing two people who don't love - and even resent - each other to marry is recipe for disaster. However, since this is the prevailing mindset of the society I belong to, I get where Reporter Lady is coming from. Doesn't make her pestering TB to marry her any less annoying, though.

Date: 2012-01-10 01:42 am (UTC)It just seems - OK, his arrangement (one-yr-marriage to have the kid legit, if they are not in love by then, divorce) even seems a better scenario than open-ended forever marriage.
I understand why she wants marriage, I am just not taking the logical leap that it makes him a jerk to not want to get married.
