I cyberstalk anything ChuHan contention, Peter tweeted this vid: http://video.sina.com.cn/v/b/69000098-2218259341.html (they call it an 'action' trailer, brace the tonnes of blood) NYE and said drama is going to air end of 2012! Yes, still a long wait but it's surprisingly earlier, no?!

This is still my most anticipated Cdrama in 2012 and the industry buzz is crazy. It looks GOODDDD!

The actress (Qin Lan) is decent, imo she's better than Ruby Lin in acting chops, but I've never finished/liked any of her dramas. And I'm pretty sure all the ladies only have supporting roles, PD Gao is notorious in giving his actresses anything much to do other than vases. In the bts pics of her scenes with LiuBang, they looked like one devoting married couple.

Yeah, I kinda guessed that this is how going to be, but I don't mind - 3K proved that he's amazing at doing these war-and-politics-centric dramas (isn't Peter Ho pretty much reprising Lu Bu, btw? Not that I am complaining :P) I am sure it will have more roles for women than 3K (simply because I cannot imagine any drama having less, plus I don't think Ruby would have signed on for a glorified cameo) but I doubt it would be anything huge.

I think Ruby's ConsortYu will be the 3K DiaoChan timetravelled couple centuries back. So there will be a lot of Ruby dancing and damselling and romancing the smexy general, but the brainiac/scheming part of Yu will be left unattended to. I'm not even sure if Ruby's reported on set filming her scenes.

As this will be LiuBang-centric and Chen DaoMing is as close to a Chinese male version of Meryl Streep, if there's ever such a being.... PD Gao has said he's very fascinated in telling the story of early ruffian LB and LZ before they turn powerful, dark and slimy. All the promos have the LZ actress Qin Lan accompanying the boys and she's been on set all along with Chen DaoMing fr the bts. YET, I'm still not holding out hope she'll be anything more than a dutiful wifey.

Well, it's hard to have less brains than poor smexy, brave, but utterly dumb Lu Bu :P

So this is Liu Bang-centric and trying to put him in a positive light? This could be...interesting. The PD seems to have a specialty focusing on historically-viewed negatively characters and turning them into fascinating centers of the story (Cao Cao, you own my heart! :P) I have a major dislike of Liu Bang but I could see an alternative interpretation. I think it would be just as well if he left Lu Zhi alone because...eeeeeeek! Nothing will convince me she was anything less than a full-fledged psycho.

I do hope that Xiang Yu has loads of screentime - preferably while killing things shirtless.

Ruby can do pretty angsty dancer in her sleep, I'd think, by now - that was pretty much the majority of her role in QSHF :)

Did they cast Han Xin yet?

I trust PD to really tell the story of a XY who is in every possible heroic way better than LB retaining enough of his heart to be human and fall in love and have all the baggages contributing to his 'downfall' (but his soul is intact) plus fate/luck/destiny intervened to LB's convenience and hence our most angsty epic. What I crave the most out of it is for me to have the hardest time picking a team or better yet, fangirl them both simultaneously.

I think PD Gao's 'positive light' is he'll get us to 'empathize' with LB, so yes, as u said, like what he did with CaoCao. CC has always been a ruthless coldblooded murderer, we just understand exactly where he's coming fr in PDGao's interpretation.

I'm ok with LZ being a normal human being in the very beginning when they have so little as any outlook in life being beggars/ruffians. The theme will definitely be extreme power corrupts souls, esp when ur significant other is alliance in ur accent (and descent).

I would like the ambiguity, yes - it's like 3K where I was rooting both for Sun Quan and Cao Cao at the same time. Plus, historically, Liu Bang made a good strong emperor and created a dynasty that lasted 100s of years - not sure XY was capable of the same. XY is pretty much designed to be a drama crush of mine, safely away from realities of what living in a world with endless civil war would be really like.

Yeah. LZ couldn't have been born a psychopath. Still, all I can think of is pig sty amputations and the poisoning fetish :)

Re: ConsortYu. I think every version I am familiar with portrays her as beautiful and sweet and devoted to her man but not a schemer at all. So this won't be anything new. So yeah, pretty much Diaochan timetravelling, hopefully with a less insane Daddy.

Have you been keeping up with Yu Zheng's version btw? I periodically check in for the lols.

Maybe just my fabrication, but ConsortYu is written in records to be as intelligent as she is a great beauty. A lady polymath by then standards?! In the time of women ranked slighter than cattle, for her have freedom of love, to pick up sword, dancing singing her own poem as swansong to her general and choose her own demise was gusto. DiaoChan still HAD to go along with being a sex slave to evil grandpa and being shoved amongst men as a pretty human gift by daddy. When push comes to shove, I can't shake the notion ConsortYu has a schemer in her, IF XY got the throne and she had to protect her turf/her love.

Did you see a very old movie The Great Conqueror's Concubine with Gong Li as LZ?! It's...very old but I rem I liked it. Maybe I was extremely impressible as a youngling then haha.

I didn't have the guts in me to check out YZ's, I treasure the food in my tummy lately and want it to stay there.

She was a polymath? Wow. Yeah, the offing yourself is pretty gutsy (though not sure how she thought that was going to get her bf focused).

I've seen clips of Concubine which look wonderful and I know the version with subs must exist because this was shown in the US, so I must track it down...I am clearly into the story since I liked it in both the Hu Jun drama and the bit The Myth covered.

Re: Ming Dao's version. One word: ahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaa. I am not even pissed off now because we are getting the awesome CDM and PH version, I am just amused as hell. And you know me, I like Yu Zheng's brand of insanity normally, but here - ahahahahahahhahahaaaaa.

wiki said they have casted an unknown actor 华汉? I have no idea who he is except there is some filthy rich boy/amateur newb actor rumored to be dating YangMi and/or LiuShiShi with the same name?! So we can only extrapolate HanXin will not have much screen time...or maybe Gao will end it before 206BC when LB was 'anointed' Han Emperor in his territory?! (coz I haven't hear a word on the casting of ZhangLang/brains of LB around his ascension, maybe he'll be a surprise still under wraps?)

I guess they really plan to end it early (which makes sense, since any reasonable C-H contention story would end with LB's ascent). I am fine with that.
