Second teaser for Moon that Embraces the Sun is out.
And I am done.
I am officially not even bothering to check out this drama. First we had absolutely miscast against each other leads. Then we had the news that this is a 20-episode drama which has the first six episodes solidly spent on childhood portions. The hell? Leaving aside my personal preferences (I have never managed to do anything but fast-forward through childhood portions of dramas), this seems like an insane idea from the pacing perspective.
And now we have two of the most lackluster, dull trailers in recent memory. There are some kids running around in period clothes. The end.
Usually, if the casting and other stuff looks awful, I will check out the drama if the trailer grabs me. Or, even if the trailers and the idea seem not my speed, I will check out a drama if I am a fan of cast member(s) - see u Bu Jing Xin and City Hunter, both of which had promo videos and info that did not appeal to me, but I checked out for the cast (and ended up loving both).
But I have zero interest in the leads here, so there is nothing, not a single thing to hook me here, other than a somewhat morbid trainwreck gaping.
And why would I inflict that on myself? I will leave this drama to flisties and bloggers who love it. As for me - I think I'd rather rewatch a 'masterpiece' like Peach Girl twdrama instead. At least it had grown ups in it.

Date: 2011-12-29 01:48 pm (UTC)I've seen her just in a few dramas Flames of desire she had double role: same face for 2 different characters with different vibes: one hurt by her father and another one happy child gone suicidal, in Iljimae was just a cutie pie, in Tamra, the Island you know better than me how cute she was.
her cameo in Queen Seon Deok for me it was short and tearful
About dramas that aren't on my must see list in Grudge: The Revolt of Gumiho she had her own role and was very well received and Dong Yi - sorry I have a problem with the story
If I really want to see Jung Il Woo in a sageuk his IlJimae is on my waiting list, and Kim Soo Hyun does for my hormones less than Yoo Seung Ho
I like the synopsis of MoonSun and if I understand right our prince is guilty for all her troubles. You know the drill in a sageuk : kill the parents, kill her( ups she kinda survives) and try to resolve it after hero's heart(cough hormones) are already lost to her.
Princess Man had a story to turn me off and turn you on , this time is vice-versa

Date: 2011-12-31 01:27 am (UTC)in my experience no matter how much I love the cast I would drop the drama without regrets if the subject isn't on my taste - Bad Guy with love of my life Kim Nam Gil- if I see a MV with Bidam I still bawl, My Princess(10 or 12 don't remember exactly), Lie to Me - 7, Myung Wol the Spy(HYS was the most appealing to me and still is but not in this role),
Hwang Jin Yi was really good with a cast to die for but I dropped it at the 17th ep) Ryu Tae-joon was my discovery in HJY just to find him in You're pet in a dull role, Kim Jae-Won, Jang Geun Seok, Ha Ji WOn, Wang BitNa - I love her to bits, - what can you ask more from a kdrama cast ???? I let it go at a beautiful romantic scene at a lake with Ha Ji Won and Kim Rae Won I think it was a kiss involved too.... it just made me yawn and finito for me.
The cast matters too, but what made me drop a drama like Me Too Flower wasn't the miscast Yoon Si Yoon versus Han Go Eun who could be his mother (not really her profile tells me that she is 11.5 years older than him but her character behaves and looks like she could be) - it was the annoying Han Go Eun's character -in a similar situation I would feel the same like she does, I would be as possessive as she is but I just can't fathom myself doing all the shits she did. For him she wasn't neither mother nor lover nor vengeful - but more the character to annoy me and plot device to make me feel something - and I did - I cringed a lot and bye bye M2F - I'll watch the finale.
I can buy the main OTP - more I can imagine a hurt woman like Lee JiAh is in real life - to fall for a less experienced kid like Yoon Si Yoon is - just because at her life experience he would be easier to read and less prone to lie and take advantage of her vulnerability in front of the men ( I don't think she is an angel but she had her share just in last 12 months). However I can't see in YSY a protector or a solution to her problems. I don't think that YSY has at least financial stability yet (an young actor can have today a good role and another 12 downright bad and lowly paid). I don't think she would try the trick with a guy 7 years her junior because she would be again on the first page as "Cougar strikes again" but it isn't unimaginable, because sometime a woman needs just a Pink Chicken to make her a day a lil rosier.
in MoonEatSun is harder to buy the OTP when we all want what she has at home Mr Vampy in person!Imagine in the morning fun with Vampy and at work with Pink Chicken( ups!!! was it a white chicken in Dream High??) Kim Soo Hyun and the cherry on top the Scheduler !! How could someone accept that?
On the other hand this story is Dae Jang Geum's spin off for the story of the first female doctor and her king! you know the one that had the spine to tell NO to the king... aish like a woman of those times would dare to say NO to...the KING and she married as she pleased with the soldier! for the sake of medicine!!!
Let's see: The king loves his doctor(ess) errmm shaman... ups the only thing is that his men killed her parents/eventually tried to off her too... ups because of him she is a doctor/ ups shaman !ups they fall in love! ups they can't be together!!!ups He saves her skin once or twice!ups IlJiMae/Scheduler saves her even more! I wonder if they'll send her to kitchen! I hope that Chosuni would be as good as she was in SKKS and less annoying as she was in Baby faced beauty. The cool thing is that her bodyguard/soldier/Min Jung Ho in DJG is Yoon Seung Ah ( a cute girl)! Is it too much to ask some sexy scenes between the 2? Just to make Mr Vampy to be part of a trio?:D Too Bad this is a mainstream channel and it would be very inappropriate to do so!!!

Date: 2012-01-04 08:40 am (UTC)I'm still a bit reserved but I so want to like this. What I just read on Ockoala's blog makes me want to watch it so much (even the childhood portions. Imagine that!):

*crossing fingers that it doesn't suck. It could be so good*

Date: 2012-01-04 04:42 pm (UTC)This is coming from someone who loathes childhood portions: Episode 1 was wonderful. I've only seen the episode RAW but that was enough to get me hooked. This is going to be a great drama, I can feel it.
The cinematography and the music are beautiful and the story (even the childhood part) seems very interesteing with complex characters.
I'm fully on board.

Date: 2012-01-04 11:47 pm (UTC)I haaaaate childhood stuff though. Like, literally, I can't think of one drama I liked that in. Maybe East of Eden with Kim Bum's amazing performance? And Christmas with Kim Su Hyun, come to think of it. Hmmmmmm.
I think I'll try.

Date: 2012-01-05 06:04 am (UTC)Seriously though, I do hate childhood stuff myself but this is good. It doesn't really feel like typical childhood stuff because they're old enough to have lots of tension. . It's not 5 year-old kids running aroun being cute. It's OTP cuteness and tension looming from the get go (well, after the first 30 minutes).
