Flower Boy Ramyun Shop wasn't my thing but I wasn't ranty about it or anything.

But now I learned it is only the first of a series of dramas centering around Flower Boys. There is an upcoming one about a rock boy flower band and so on (janitor flower boys?).

UGH.

I mean, what can I say about a drama which has no driven narrative point or even a need to make you laugh, but is pretty much a drama to make you buy things and which has no selling point in any promos or in its entire existence, other than 'pretty androgynous boys! look at them! and buy our stuff!'

Not every drama has to have something profound to say. I've enjoyed plenty of fluff. But the utter lack of any animating principle other than "cute people selling stuff" belongs in a commercial and nowhere else.

Plus, I have this horrifying fear of kdramas turning into jdramas and turning into a sea of shrill material with the depth of a puddle geared not to strain the meager talents of various pop idols. (There are still good jdramas, of course, but the amount of the jdrama of the kind I mention is ubiquitous). Ugh.

This has been your rant of the day.

I had pretty much the same reaction as you, but the boy band one has Sung Joon as the lead (the younger brother in Lie to Me and Choi Chi Hoon [my favorite character!!!] in White Christmas) so I'm going to watch at least that one just for him. I'm hoping it'll further his career so he can play more sociopaths be in more dramas. >:D

I am staying far away from this one because I just know I'll have rage fits and post nasty recaps and rants and why aggravate myself and flist when there are fun things to watch?

I've stayed far away from Ramyun Shop, but the teaser for this one seemed mildly interesting (for a 30-second clip) and I figure something about a band is going to have to have some plot. Either way, going to brave at least 3 episodes and then just skim for Sung Joon.
hoping he'll have lots of makeouts, kekeke

There is no female lead cast as of yet, and seeing they have the trailer out already and are about to air, I have doubts as to whether this drama will have one at all. So the makeouts may be quite slashy :P

I saw this. The drama was supposed to be called Eye Candy, after the band. But, it was changed. I get it, though. This is an up-and-coming cable network and Flower Boy is their hit series. So, they want to capitalize on the whole 'pretty boy' fad that's captured Korean television. Fine, I get it.

That said, a drama full of pretty boys and no plot is no fun. Or, it could be fun, but. . .with Korean dramas - I want a plot. The synopsis for this drama is literally: Shut Up Flower Boy Band is centered around a high school band known as Eye Purification. The drama depicts friendship, love of youths and their passion for music. Yeah. . .

Interesting, it comes out the same day as Dream High 2, which follows idol stars who are about to have nervous breakdowns and troubled students from Kirin High School of Art.

If I had to pick one, I'd go with DH2.

Well, now that dramas are being produced for channels outside of the three major networks... I think we're going to see a influx of different types of genre dramas. Something you probably wouldn't had seen on the three major networks.

You have no idea how angry I am at Flower Boy Ramyun Shop.

At first, the outrageous situations actually worked for it. The funny and idiotic situations were a good start. But now... it's ridiculous!

After about 4 episodes of ridiculousness I had enough. But here I am, watching episode 13 and still hoping that they'll prove me wrong and start showing some semblance of plot. Pretty boys fighting over a girl? Not enough to make a drama. And it's not even believable when the girl is such an idiot.

Urgh... more idol dramas coming up. Will this mark the end of my drama obsession? :(

Well, there are a lot of non-idol dramas too, thank God.

I guess, I just don't want them to overwhelm the kinds of dramas I like.

Yeah, this synopsis sounds as dull as dirt. DH sounds miles better.
