I think I found my cracky, fluffy drama of the season - the Taiwanese delight, Skip Beat.

SB revolves around Gong Xi (Ivy Chen), a sweet, optimistic young woman who has done everything for her boyfriend, the budding idol star Shang (Lee Donghae) - holding multiple jobs so he can live in style. But as the drama opens, she finds out that Shang has been only using her as a maid and has no feelings for her but is a horrible user. Gong Xi swears to get revenge on him by becoming a bigger star than Shang. And a new, determined, cynical Gong Xi is born. There is also He Lian (Choi Siwon), our male protagonist, who is Taiwan's top star and shares a past with Gong Xi.

I needed a light drama - after watching Padam Padam, Tree with Deep Roots, Me Too Flower, The Empress and What's Up - I needed something that wasn't bash-my-own-head-in depressing. And SB, which just aired its very entertaining first ep, fits the bill. Twdrama zany romcoms, especially when based on manga, always work for me.

The awesome Koala is recapping this and viki is subbing.

I really want to watch this (I'm a big fan of the manga) - is it subbed already?

Okay, I finally got to finish watching episode 1 of Skip Beat (started the other day, but got interrupted), and I love it! They've really captured the spirit of the manga, and the actors are all doing a great job portraying the characters so far as well. I'm actually kind of surprised I like it so much, because whenever I've watched a jdrama adaptation of a manga I like, I've had mixed feelings about it - maybe twdramas really are better at manga adaptations.

Now I just wish Taiwan would adopt Korea's system of airing two episodes per week!

I love the manga which is still ongoing and yes, Taiwanese dramas are fulfilling my need for crackdrama especially since this is the way I celebrate the holidays.

Also, on a side note, it's so weird since the only other project I had seen of the actress was a wuxia adaptation of Gu Long's Meteor Butterfly Sword and her character was definitely NOT what she's acting here. It'll be a good change I think. I don't think that the drama will best my love of the manga though.

I saw her as a tough mob princess in Black and White, so yeah, surreal.

Speaking of, I need to watch Black & White.

Also, need to re-read Skip Beat the manga since the drama is once a week so the wait for episodes is a lot longer...

i've been so excited about this, but i'm sure i'm waiting until it's finished. donghae looks adorable as shang, but siwon's the male lead, right?

Yup, Siwon is the lead.

It took me by surprised. I actively dislikely dubbing (took me a long time before I embarked on c-dramas, but at least the lips are in time with the speech), and had no interest in the manga. The only drawpoint was Siwon, whom I only like for his megawatt smile (Remember 18 v 29?).

But after reading koala's rave about the first episode, I took a leap of faith.....and fell right into the bottomless pit!

I FFed through the last leg of episode one, where Gong Xi (what kind of name is that....sounds ridiculous in Chinese) threw away all fashion sense expected of a 21st century girl of her age. But, I left the episode craving for more! I am dropping Office Girl (getting draggy), but now I'm stuck with yet another 1-ep-per-week-drama. ARGHHHH

Sublimes is subbing this too! :D

The dubbing isn't as bad as I expected! Then again, I was preparing for the worst...
