What's Up - episodes 1 and 2 - thoughts and caps

It's official, I love this drama. I can actually see why the networks passed on it - it's indie and quirky and has a cast of unknowns and is not an upbeat, predictable (in a good way but still) drama like Dream High. The drama it reminds me most of, actually, is the jdrama Orange Days.

I don't really have a ship yet and don't really care if I get one. I don't care how the story ends, either - I just want to watch these uniformly fascinating people, each one of whom I love already.



Anyone else think that Do Sung's mother is the wife of some important politician and he's illegitimate? In other news - I hate her hate her hate her hate her.



Did anyone else think they wandered into live-action adaptation of Sensual Phrase instead? :) On a more serious note, I do find it interesting that shy, spazzy, borderline socially-useless Do Sung can perform fearlessly when his face is covered. Hmmmm.




I love this scene - where Jae Hun wanders into a theater after thinking he incidentally killed someone.





Why is Im Ju Hwan not a huge star, again?



He is told the man in the accident is fine. What he doesn't know but the audience does is that the store clerk who told him is mistaken and the man died.



Tae Hee, whom I adore. She's sort of manic pixie dream girl only sweet. She's having a conversation with her dead father and the scene is just oddly sweet. Btw, this is the man who died in collision with Jae Hun. This is going to be huge because while no court would hold JH guilty of the man's death, emotionally, it's a whole other game.



She's so gorgeous.

If I had to pick my favorite character, the son of rich family who's hiding what impractical subject he's studying, Byung Gun, just might be my favorite. He's sort of my rl type. I like them spazzy.




OK, maybe I do have a ship? BG with Chae Young, the pop star who decides to get some acting chops.








She's freaking gorgeous.



Doo Ri, the girl with a stage mother who actually has a punk/rebel attitude. I love her.



OK, I can kinda ship Tae Hee and Do Sung because they are both so odd and awkward and darling.








The main threesome. OK, I can kinda go for JH and TH too because it will be so screwed up...



Everyone in this cast is ridiculously gorgeous.



She does well on her audition.



But not as well as Do Sung who loses his shyness when he starts to sing and blows everyone away.




Another lovely scene with Tae Hee and her father.




Odd roommates.




Not as odd as these...




Seriously, she's so weird...



I loved this whole sequence...








Upperclassmen try to bully newbies and succeed.




Well, they succeed with everyone but JH. Idiot upperclassman, I could have told you - it's not a good idea to try to bully Park Kyu (I miss Tamra!!!!).

utterly besotted with this thing. i loved dream high but mixing that up into theatre+music kids and then turning the whole thing dark is so perfect i could die. and everyone can act, and there are some excellent singers and this whole thing is going to be such a dream.

byung gun and the vampire're gonna be so adorable, i love byung gun i just want to put him in my pocket.

im joo hwan is the most fantastic and i want to, like, lick the screen or something every time he comes on ugh /shot. daesung is also surprisingly good at acting for an idol/newbie (or maybe he's just super charming and sincere? or both?) and kim ji won is fab, im joo eun is fab, god everyone is so good here.

all of the characters are so offbeat like wow, except maybe chae young but she's kind of screwed up by the acting lifestyle (there's this scene with her in episode three that totally breaks my heart) and crazy relentless determined, so, depth! byung gun is so adorkable and i think he'd really melt her? anyway gahhhh everyone is precious and you're right in that the pairings don't even matter because they all have these fascinating dynamics and just seeing them interact makes me grin.

the head honcho of the upperclassmen makes me have a twitching fit. god, i hate him and his emo hair.

uhhh and sorry for spazzing all over your posts! i have so much pent-up love for this drama it's not even funny.

I think Daesung is very good. Would have never known he's a newbie.

LOVE Im Ju Hwan. Seriously, his character has so many shades.

I like Chae Young actually.

Head honcho is awful. I did love when JH got in his face and was all 'I did my army service' and heeee - yeah, it's hard to fuck with someone who is not scared.

i really like that even with his troubled past and "i don't give a fuck"-ery he's caring and a genuinely good guy.

i like chae young too! she could have been the ~catty evil antagonist second-lead~ if she was in any other drama, and she is, to an extent (SHE'S A TOTAL RAGING BITCH TO BYUNG GUN AGH MY HEART), but she's also so much more than that and. she has amazing interactions with soo bin and jae hun.

Thank you for being the ONLY OTHER PERSON IN MY FLIST feeding my appropriate addiction to What's up! Seriously. I love love LOVE the characters. I just wish I could go and have a laugh and hug all of them. They are so rich and well painted even with only just episodes. It's wonderful.

I wish they would be all happy. Guess it won't happen anytime soon but well :).

Heh, I do like Padam Padam too, it's just not what I'm looking for right now. I actually went and watched ep 3-4 ealier today even though I said I'd save them for later. LOL! I'm really trying not to watch too many ongoing dramas at the same time. I need my sleep these days. Which is of course why I'm still up. *shakes head*

YES to everything in this post.

I adore every single character and could care less about the shipping as well. If it happens, that's fine. But I want to see each character grow and interact with each other as friends.

The only show I can really think of that is kind of similar to this drama is Soulmate because they both have a great ensemble cast and seem to feel more modern than most dramas out in terms of storyline.

RE the mother. She is EVIL. It would be better if she was absent from his life rather than dangling a carrot on a stick. Evil, evil, evil.

Tae Hyun actually reminds me most of Spike from Cowboy Bebop. Stoic at times, a 'tragic' past, but really cares for people underneath the facade. I think he's my favorite out of the cast right now but I think I adore them all equally.

I was enjoying this show well enough through the first two eps, but then they introduced the crazy drunk teacher that's been living in the mountains, and the drama officially hit obsession level. I think it's because I'm shipping him with rebel girl (a lot. I got giddy in the scene in ep 3 where he just pushes her to the side and that just intrigues her instead of offends her). And I am a sucker for "unconventional teacher" stories. Pretty sure he's going to end up being my favorite.
