So, What's Up is a musical, right?

And when you think 'musical,' you think chirpy and fun, right?

Think again.

I am about halfway into the first ep, and if "Dream High" was a musical if kdramas went Disney, What's Up is a musical if kdramas went 'indie 1970s director.'

I love it, but it's seriously dark.

You know, I really need to add a chirpy drama to my repertoir. Padam Padam and Tree with Deep Roots are both soul-scarring. What's Up and Me Too Flower are somewhat cheerier but that's like saying something is less bloody than WW2 - doesn't mean much. Neither is a bucket of laughs in the least. Ditto The Empress.

I think I am going to add Color of Woman to the mix before I go bonkers from all the emo.

In conclusion - will this prove to be the world's tiniest violin?

What's Up definitely reads like a indie film which is awesome. The cinematography is just gorgeous as well.

I think the part when that really blew me away was when the song ended in the first episode and there was a few seconds of static after that to describe the chaos going on. Pretty intense stuff.

I know - it's made so unusually for a kdrama.

what's up is utterly fabulous. the script, acting, cinematography, characters, etc., etc. it does take a bit of a cheery turn in the second episode and there are light, fluffy bits throughout but yeah, a little dark. and it can only get worse from here, imo.

it moves fast, too? my otp (jae hun the pickpocket-turned-musical-actor and tae yi the manic pixie dream girl) is doooooooooomed but wow, the reveals come pretty quickly, considering it's only ep. 5.

also as a side note YOUR ICON kjh your face

Oh, I am so curious about JH and TH - and yes, if they do start something, it's so doomed.

hfkjdg I watched the first two episodes and I am SO ADDICTED. The characters are so well done and have such unique colours. And you can see how good it is made when you just can see the failure and hurt just in their eyes. It's beautiful.

And I'm glad because it's been some times now since I really went all my heart for a kdrama :).

This is so perfect. I need to mainline it.

I like Color of Woman a lot. It's light but not too fluffy, and I find myself enjoying it the most out of the dramas I'm watching. I hesitate recommending it to you, though, as it is a workcom that is less actual comedy and more slice-of-life.
