Ok, took everyone's advice and my current viewing list looks like this (once again, first number is number of eps watched, second is number of eps out).

Padam Padam 2/4
Tree with Deep Roots 10/22
What's Up 0/4
The Empress 4/10
Me Too Flower 10/12

I am saving A Thousand Day's Promise for a marathon over the holidays - it almost completely finished airing so I might just as well wait, especially since the subs are quite a bit behind. I am only interested in the secondary OTP in A Thousand Kisses and I heard the drama went full-on majang so I am holding off. I will probably ff at some point when my backlog is less. Flower Boy Ramyun Shop got dropped because I was pretty much bored for six eps in a row and my watching list is too lonq to continue with it under those circumstances.

I am also adding on The Musical because I like musicals and want to give Gu Hye Sun another chance, want to finish Gyebaek, check out White Christmas and get ready from Moon That Embraced The Sun. Oh, and this is old but I loved Gumiho Girlfriend but got sidetracked in the middle. Qi need to finish it too. There is also Lights and Shadows but it doesn't look like there will be subs so I am out of luck.

Also, is Queen Insoo worth watching? I will need another sageuk to follow once Tree ends and seeing how big my misgivings about the cast of Moon are, I want to have backup in case that one turns out to be an utter disaster.

Oh, and when is Love Song coming out?

I really enjoyed What's up, it's so much better then Dream High (with better actors as well).
Padam padam is good and consistent and I need to watch more of the Empress.

Our watching lists look pretty the same, it seems, minus The Empress.

Anyway, commenting for the first time to tell you thanks for an awesome blog. ^^ We might not always have the same taste in dramas, but you've convinced me to start watching sageuks and other genres than rom-coms and I'm enjoying it thoroughly!

I hope you'll continue writing like this for a long time to come!

Hardsubs for What's Up? first two episodes are out.

I've started Tree With Deep Roots and have watched five episodes. I am in love.

Padam Padam - I want to watch it! But, am not a fan of streaming. So, I'll wait.

I plan to watch WU this weekend :)

Isn't Tree so amazing?

Re: Padamx2 - you might have to wait a very long time as the only softsubs are darksmurf and nobody is really working on them.

WU may just be better than Dream High and The Musical.

Tree is so good. Everything about it is amazing.

Re P2 - that's okay. I have three or four dramas I'm watching now.

Where are you watching Empress? Viki went unavailable :(

From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
I just realized viki went unavailable after I posted this.

I don't really need subs because between my rudimentary Korean and having seen the jdrama, I can get the gist pretty well. My asian cinema has softsubs through ep 6 and darksmurf has partial subs through ep 8.

There are currently six softsubbed episodes for The Empress.

A Thousand Kisses did totally go makjang - like whoa! - but the second leads Ryu Jin and Kim So-eun are adorable. I ff'd it for them and just adored them, but I don't know if I'd suggest it unless you're a big fan of KSE or RJ.

Also - don't watch The Musical. There is no musical, and there's only three more eps. The first six or so eps are fairly good, but then the drama starts spinning its wheels. Read the recaps on Dramabeans if you want to know the story, but I wouldn't invest the time. (Plus, I fall into the "not a fan of GHS" camp, so I'm not that impressed with her acting. I think if she would finally play a grown-up she might do well, since I think she does serious drama best, but she keeps picking these "quirky" characters, and I don't think they play to her strengths.)

I am a big fan of KSE and RJ so I'll definitely get to it just for their scenes.

Thanks for the Musical heads-up.

I second The Musical un-recommendation! GHS truly IS that bad, and they keep having her sing the same annoying song over and over and over again. It's supposed to be about a musical, but there's only like two songs in it, lol. I'm finishing it for Daniel Choi alone, and still have to psych myself up before every new episode, because the plot is insanely slow and the characters never really grow or change. I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment.

White Christmas

From: (Anonymous)
Hi! I've been enjoying your blog for a while now and am only just de-lurking. I'm really glad you're checking out White Christmas because I loved it, though I can see why it's not for everyone. It's dark, all the characters are pretty flawed and there's very little romance. It actually reminds of Mawang a little, with it's tight writing and still atmosphere and moral dilemma, so if you enjoyed Mawang you might like this. On the plus side, it's stunningly shot and the cast is filled with eye candy and it's only 8 eps!

I'm holding off on marathoning Kdramas but I'm kinda on a TW drama riff since I want to watch Inborn Love and Skip Beat. Gonna marathon Office Girls too. Tree with Deep Roots looks like a perfect candidate for Christmas Day weekend marathon :)

LOL, I should have a Peter Ho playlist because he's one of my celebrity crushes. I totally was obsessed with the Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon TV series just because of his character. In case you don't know it, it's the one where he did the crazy upside down with the girl while she was riding on horseback.

Sooo excited for Skip Beat even though I know it'll be super cheesy and weird because of the dubbing of the Korean speaking actors. I just really love the manga and now that I caught up to the manga, this is the only way to get my RenxKyoko shipping done. Also, am interested as to how it translates to live action. If successful, maybe the TWdrama will cause a remake in a Jdorama.

And soooooo addicted to Inborn Love (actually I think the 2 official names have been Inborn Pair or True Love but I somehow combined it into Inborn Love). I was totally intending to queue up more episodes but made the mistake of opening up episode 1 to skim through and just got engrossed. Now I just hit refresh waiting for the next episode. The 40 minutes go by sooo fast. I'm feeling so lucky it's a daily drama.

btw, you can bump up White Christmas and finish it in one sitting...it's only 8 episodes...it's a fantastic psych thriller...not sure if that's u're genre though...it has a very j-dorama feel to it too...I'd suggest dling it though..subs are available here: http://fightingfs.com/white-christmas/

As soon as I finished the last ep I restarted watching from ep 1. Even on the second watch it was excellent because you realize all the details you didn't notice on first watch that turned out to be important. There were a few details which bugged me (why are the police SO incompetent?) but overall the amount of plot and character development they managed to stuff into 8 eps is amazing.

I haven't heard anything about Queen but Chae Si Ra is always BAMF to the Nth degree, and I liked Ji Jin Hee and Kim Mi Sook in Dae Jang Geum and City Hunter respectively.

(I'm behind on everything, as I'm banned from watching anything but Once Upon A Time that I might want to cap until I've seriously depleted the backlog of caps I have set aside to icon.)

Mmmm, sounds promising.

Btw, you still might not want to watch Tree, but I know one of your problems with it was that there was only one female character and she was mute. Just wanted to let you know, that there are three - heroine, second-in-command for the opponents and a detective/assassin (for a sageuk, Tree actually has a tiny cast of important characters - three mains and 6-7 supporting, everyone else is a glorified extra at best) and even though the leading lady is mute she is not voiceless - she communicates through writing with the same frequency anyone else talks (the actress reads it in voiceover). You may still not be interested and it's totally understandable, but wanted to let you know.

I've been following various posts on it. (I try not to completely write things off bases on pre-airing stuff, even if they sometimes end up, say, Grimm.) It sounds like something I'll enjoy once I get around to it, but not necessarily ne ctazy about.

Ji Jin-Hee doesn't star in Queen Insoo. He's busy filming that airline drama with Goo Hye-Sun, due to be broadcast next January in Tree With Deep Roots' time slot.

It's Jin Ji-Hee, a child actress, who appears in QI, as the future Deposed Queen Yoon, Queen Insoo's daughter-in-law who bore her first grandson, the tyrannical Yeonsangun, and was later sentenced to death.

That was a rather impressive misreading on my part then. Was she one of the child actresses in the horror Gumiho sageuk? I thought I saw one of them in a couple caps.

Date: 2011-12-19 10:47 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] clairiere.livejournal.com
Well, I made the same mistake, albeit in Korean. :) Seemed odd at first that Ji Jin-Hee could be doing both, only to realize I'd misread the name.

Was she one of the child actresses in the horror Gumiho sageuk?

No, she's most famous for a sitcom she did a couple of years ago, one of the High Kick series. Her bio says she was also in East of Eden and Princess Ja Myung Go, maybe that's where you recognize her from.

I don't think anyone from Gumiho is in QI, but I do know Jin Ji-Hee and Kim Yoo-Jeong (the one that was murdered in Gumiho) are currently filming another sageuk, The Moon that Embraced the Sun. The childhood/adolescent portion reportedly takes up 1/4 of the series (6/24 eps.), so they're playing very substantial roles (I think KYJ has the lead role, the girl that became a shaman).

From: [identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com
The girl who played the other little girl in Gumiho was the one I thought I spotted, but apparently it isn't her. Both actresses were extremely good in Gumiho though.

I haven't seen Ja Muyng Go yet, but it's probably my next sageuk after I finish Gye Baek and Warrior Baek Dong Soo, though I suppose I should watch Princess Man and Tree With Deep Roots soonish too.

Queen Insoo is supremely worth watching. However, as of this moment, it isn't being subbed well as far as I know. Both viki and darksmurf are working on it, but the process is crawling. Also, it's 50 episodes long, but it's only on 5 as of today, so you can safely put it on the back burner for a while.
