Best first meeting scene ever

There is dedicated and then there is running into a burning inferno of a building to rescue a court lady for the sole purpose of shaking her and yelling at her to describe the culprit you seek. Joking aside, I do find something oddly sexy about such complete and utter single-mindedness - maybe because if that dedication and intensity got turned to you as its goal - oh my.

And on that note, please please please let this be the period drama where Jang Hyuk has the girl's heart the whole way through. Even if they both die hideous deaths as the end (always a probability with a period drama), he's already broken my heart enough with unrequited love in Chuno (even though I shipped Lee Da Hae with Oh Ji Ho in that one).

Finally, a shallow comment - what with this and Padam Padam, it reminded me that much as I enjoy 'flower boys' that populate kdramas, nothing really pings it for me the way mature (30+) brawny men do.

Occasionally, some of the speculations re: the ending unnerve me, but this is one period drama where hope as symbolism matters, and Ddolbok and Dami dead and/or separated from each other as an ending... well, it just doesn't spell hope for the future.

And despite the 13+ year difference btw the two, somehow they click.

13 years? Really? Wow, I would have never guessed. I think because with sageuk garb and with (sometimes) sageuk facial hair, my ability to tell male and female age goes out of the window.

You could see the age diff a lot more in the pic you posted in contemporary clothes.

I've yet to see Jang Hyuk fail to have chemistry with his leading ladies and I've never seen SSK before but I love her cool and poised vibe.

She looks her age, but like you said, she's very poised and mature and has a sensuality that's both innocent and charged, which works to her advantage here. The character's supposed to be in her early 30s, which is a stretch, but she has chemistry with both Jang Hyuk and Han Seok-Kyu, so that helps a lot. In fact, she works so well with all the male actors she appears with, some of the post-episode reactions are quite comical. In one episode, she was having a secret meeting with one of Sejong's scholars, and one viewer who knew nothing about the drama caught the scene and thought they were a couple plotting to run away.

I know the scene and I can see why the person thought that - the chemistry with all the cast is wonderful.

Also, seeing all those scholars is making me nostalgic for Sungkyunkwan Scandal.
