by reading TF.N's "book adaptation" page which has huge huge HUGE chunks of plot and dialogue.

All I can say is: aaaaaaah! aaaaaaaaaaaaah! Guuuuuuuuh! eeeeeeek! Am in shock. Will definitely cry like a girly girl. If the movie is half as good I will go into cardiac arrest. Oh, and it's official. Padme/Anakin is the most gloriously messed-up ship ever. I love every bit of it.

Eeeep...meeeep...*other incoherent noises*

*is carted off*

Isn't it though? Their relationship basically degenerates into one big misunderstanding where a lot of people die. There's a Shakespearean quality to it all.

Yup. Their timing sucks

And how ironic that he betrayed the Jedi and turned to the Dark side in order to protect her from death. And that very act of betrayal is what really led to her death. Very Oedipal where if he didn't know about the prophesy, he wouldn't have left his adopted parents and thus fulfilled the prophesy by killing daddy/marrying mummy. It's a Catch 22 and very understandable that he'd try "not to fail again" and save his loved ones, especially since his vision of Mom came true, but argh! The dramatic irony. I wonder if he ever thinks of it. I think he does. His last reflections re: Padme: oh boy! I would not want to reside in HIS head.

Anakin really is a messed up guy. Frankly, if he were in the real world he'd be on medication and have a stack of therapy bills.

With him, it's sort of like the more he desperately tries to hold on, the more he loses. He's so emotionally involved in all of it he can't think straight. Very like Romeo when he finds out that Juliet is dead. It's just all emotion from there and completely destructive.

Uh-huh.

It's completely understandable he tries to hold on, but what he doesn't realize that Dark Side (or any passionate feeling for that matter) can't just be let out a little and than put back into the bottle.

He has a pattern of people who loved him leaving him and I think that really reflects his insecurities. And of course, just the fact that he loves her so passionately, results in him loving her "beyond reason." There are things someone should not do no matter what, but he is so caught up in his emotion he cannot think straight. Especially since there has to be more than one way to foil his vision (e.g. good medical care). There are some moral boundaries one should not cross, and he does because he is so afraid. And especially when the threat is not immediate and imminent (Palpatine is not holding a gun to Padme's head), his desperation leads him the entirely wrong way.

And of course the hard lesson is that he can protect her from the whole world, but he can't protect her from himself.

And he's ultimately the one who destroys her. His worst fear comes true because he tried so hard to prevent it. Reminds me a lot of the Greek tragedy hubris as you were saying beforehand. When you try to outsmart the gods, you generally end up merely ticking them off or playing into their hands. Anakin does this in GRAND style.

Interesting that I've been calling Obi Wan a Cassandra, because that too follows the pattern of Greek tragedy. There's always someone who knows what's going on but no one listens to them.

Yes, it is rather Greek in structure. Anakin's sin is posessiveness. And boy how he pays. And at least if the movie pans out the way the script did, I still feel sorry for him as in the end he is left with nothing: no love, no friends, no peace, not even his body to control. He is the ultimate slave whose only company is the Sith Lord and his own self-loathing.

He also has the sin of pride. He never would have been compelled to turn if he didn't think he was better than everyone treated him.

Seems like he paid for it in spades though. I think Obi Wan is astute enough to realize what happened though in the end, else he wouldn't have conceded to Vader in the end. Of course it was too late for everyone by then.

Yes, now Obi Wan's choice to die in Ep IV makes more sense. But yes, late for everyone.

The end of Vader in ROTJ was the best he could have. He was too damaged (and I am not talking about physically) to be able to integrate into the world.

Sad, the only time Anakin has ever been free in his life is the few moments he has left after he kills Palpatine.

Hey, even MY *puff self in pride* captions are not worth getting spoilered over, unless you want to be spoiled. And of all the spoilery things posted on my LJ, stay away from the link from Katranna. Those are the pic spoilers to end all spoilers.
