I have spoiled myself rotten for SW3
Mar. 25th, 2005 03:50 pmby reading TF.N's "book adaptation" page which has huge huge HUGE chunks of plot and dialogue.
All I can say is: aaaaaaah! aaaaaaaaaaaaah! Guuuuuuuuh! eeeeeeek! Am in shock. Will definitely cry like a girly girl. If the movie is half as good I will go into cardiac arrest. Oh, and it's official. Padme/Anakin is the most gloriously messed-up ship ever. I love every bit of it.
Eeeep...meeeep...*other incoherent noises*

Very Oedipal where if he didn't know about the prophesy, he wouldn't have left his adopted parents and thus fulfilled the prophesy by killing daddy/marrying mummy. It's a Catch 22 and very understandable that he'd try "not to fail again" and save his loved ones, especially since his vision of Mom came true, but argh! The dramatic irony. I wonder if he ever thinks of it. I think he does. His last reflections re: Padme: oh boy! I would not want to reside in HIS head.

Date: 2005-03-25 09:22 pm (UTC)With him, it's sort of like the more he desperately tries to hold on, the more he loses. He's so emotionally involved in all of it he can't think straight. Very like Romeo when he finds out that Juliet is dead. It's just all emotion from there and completely destructive.

Date: 2005-03-25 09:32 pm (UTC)It's completely understandable he tries to hold on, but what he doesn't realize that Dark Side (or any passionate feeling for that matter) can't just be let out a little and than put back into the bottle.
He has a pattern of people who loved him leaving him and I think that really reflects his insecurities. And of course, just the fact that he loves her so passionately, results in him loving her "beyond reason." There are things someone should not do no matter what, but he is so caught up in his emotion he cannot think straight. Especially since there has to be more than one way to foil his vision (e.g. good medical care). There are some moral boundaries one should not cross, and he does because he is so afraid. And especially when the threat is not immediate and imminent (Palpatine is not holding a gun to Padme's head), his desperation leads him the entirely wrong way.
And of course the hard lesson is that he can protect her from the whole world, but he can't protect her from himself.

Date: 2005-03-25 10:14 pm (UTC)Seems like he paid for it in spades though. I think Obi Wan is astute enough to realize what happened though in the end, else he wouldn't have conceded to Vader in the end. Of course it was too late for everyone by then.

Date: 2005-03-25 10:17 pm (UTC)The end of Vader in ROTJ was the best he could have. He was too damaged (and I am not talking about physically) to be able to integrate into the world.
Sad, the only time Anakin has ever been free in his life is the few moments he has left after he kills Palpatine.
