Rob Thomas just said in his interview that Duncan is Ethan Frome. That makes sense as I've always hated hated HATED that book AND that character and thought he was an ineffective, self-pitying twit who should have been smacked with a shovel.

Too bad that is not what RT meant.

Oh, this was the book that just frustrated me. I don't like Wharton much as a rule, as I find her people self indugent whiners, but Ethan? Hate cubed.

God, I hated that book too. I hated it so much I decided to write a paper about how Zena WASN'T the bad charcter and what'sherblondeface was a housewrecking twit. I had arguments with my teacher over it. hehe

The worst blow came when we watched it as a movie and Ethan was played by Liam Neeson. I love the man, but I hated Ethan. It was painful.
