Also, probable obsessive ship.

Yes, I have reverted to being six years old and am shipping Snow White/Prince Charming. Rabidly. I have no shame.

Anyway, I just finished the pilot of Once Upon a Time and loved loved loved it to bits (yes, even the omniscient kid didn't annoy me). It's just the right amounts of cheesy and intriguing and twisty and with all these characters I cannot wait to see develop. I like Emma, the protagonist, a lot, but I confess being more interested (so far) in the fairy-tale transplants - the Evil Queen, Snow White, Prince Charming, Rumpelstiltskin (OMG Robert Carlyle OMG!), the Sheriff (anyone taking bets on the Sheriff being the Big Bad Wolf?).

It's a ridiculous amount of fun. And so very pretty. The time-bending stuff is going to give me splitting headaches as it will get more complicated but I know I am going to love it.

Evil Queen as a modern Mayor. I kinda love her, even if in a 'I want Snow White and Emma stomp you into dirt" way.

Sheriff and Emma. My spidey sense is telling me they are setting them up. Maybe because if they do want a romance for Emma, he's the only one available so far unless she's into Jiminy Cricket :P

Rumpelstiltzkin, ILY. Just because of who you are played by.

Kid, you are less annoying than I thought but you are still Mr. Exposition Annoying.

OTP!!!!

Just as in a kdrama, if you have two minutes of happiness, disaster follows. In this case, Evil Queen with Evil Curse. Presumably not the curse of looking goth a la Target. Hey, as long as Prince Charming is still pretty.

Of course I ship them. Check out the woobie angst! Also, damn, Snow White is tough - I couldn't even move after childbirth, let alone confront Evil Queens with the dead body of my sexy sexy sexy husband. Also, really random, but baby and sword combo reminded me of Three Kingdoms (with just as good a result as baby went through interdimentional portal and got saved and grew up to be Emma. Whose parents (who she doesn't know) are her own age because time is frozen - freaky).

In modern day, he's an anonymous coma patient and she's a teacher. She doesn't remember him, of course. How kdrama.

So yeah, v.v.v. in love. Even if it is sort of a rip-off of Fables.

Have an ep 2 preview:

I hope the ratings are good! I need this to stick around. I enjoy Ringer, but I am rabid about this one. (Haven't yet gotten to Revenge, Pan Am or Homeland, my other potentials of the season).

I watched this last night.
I liked but didn't love it so far. I was just the right bit intrigued by it and I'm happy to see some familiar faces but since it was a pilot I thought there would be more hook to it.
Heh maybe it was the cheese. I thought it was def something I want to check out the next week after my exams though.

I watched Pan Am. I like it. Mostly because I like time-jumpy shows. But it's a fun watch. I think I'm 2 episodes behind though. Still so much pretty O_O It should be illegal to have that many gorgeous people on one show.

It's cheesy as all get out but I loved that!

I really will get around to Pan Am one of these days.

Actually, I'd say it's much more to the tune of 10th Kingdom than Fables (even though the network apparently nixed Fables then went with this a while later). I'd say that while all 3 are the same subgenre, they're sufficiently different enough to all stand on their own.

Prince Charming was remarkably agreeable about basically being an attractive ornament that his wife sometimes pointed at things to stab, wasn't he?

The thing that makes the omniscient kid work, I think, is that the omniscience is pretty much based on his grandmother giving him the roadmap that leads to his finding his biomom and bringing her back to save the day, and he and Prince Charming, who would normally be the heroes, are essentially the Damsels In Distress while the women hold all the power, both good and bad.

(PS: real world!Snow White is a nun.)

Haven't seen 10th Kingdom so cannot comment on that :) Mr Mousie labeled this "Fables meets Stephanie Plum" which makes me laugh.

I think Snow White/Prince Charming had a Victoria and Albert thing minus the bustles - I got the impression she ruled the kingdom and he was the consort.

I don't think she's a nun, btw - hair uncovered, no cross.

Kid was annoying to me despite your well-taken points. Omniscient kids of whichever gender make me homicidal.

Snow White's real world name is "Sister Mary Margaret." In recent years, it isn't complewtely unheard of (though not exactly common-and I've encountered a few other canons where nuns weren't wearing habits under certain circumstances) for a nun who isn't cloistered/in an abbey/etc to be "plain clothes." She does have the cross, though, and the standard haircut, not to mention ultraconservative clothes +teacher + hospital work.

10th Kingdom basically started off the "deconstructive modern take of fairy tales meeting the real world' stuff, and it's succsessors have continued it's focus on Snow White at the center and the Snow White/Big Bad Wolf representatives being the OTP.

...Really? You liked this one? I thought it was such cheesy, sentimental, fluffy schlock... Have you read Fables? If not, you ought to. :)

cheesy, sentimental, fluffy schlock

Precisely. As my love of kdramas should indicate, I liiiive for that stuff.

I mentioned Fables in the post, so yeah, I read it and it's awesome.

Hmmm, I think I need to check this out. I've been in a K-drama slump since Princess' Man ended and have been conforting myself with the very British Downton Abbey but it'll be over in two weeks and I need something to fall back on. Game of Thrones and True Blood are still so many months away.

I'm still pissed that Stargate Universe got nixed after its second season. I truly loved that show. But I see Robert Carlyle has found something to fall back on. So I'll check OUAT for sure, if only to see him in it.

I am pretty much kdrama slumping too, but all these shows are a decent substitute.

I really should check out Downton Abbey - everyone seems to love it.

From: [identity profile] cleobulle.livejournal.com
You totally should check out Downton Abbey. Although, so far, I think the first season is better than the second one. Also, it's so very pretty...

I love good cinematography in a Kdrama but watching DA reminded me that western shows/movies are still usually one or two steps above when it come to that kind of things.

I hate being in a Kdrama slump. And it's kind of depressing because there's no upcomming drama that sounds good to me either. No light at the end of the tunnel so to speak.

We'll have to wait and see. I was really disappointed by the 2011 drama line-up when it was annouced but it still delivered the wonderful Princess' Man and City Hunter so there's still hope yet.

Speaking of TPM, last week I pre-ordered the Director's Cut of the DVD. It promises cut scenes (no clue how many thought) and remastered images (I think that means the second part of the drama will get the same digital treatment than the first to give us that soft movie look). It will be released on Dec. 30th. Can't wait.

I adored season 1 of Downton so much, my friend and I did a marathon online streaming of it after I found it on pbs.
I really need to go watch s2 but I haven't had time yet. How is it?

Well, I personally think season 2 isn't as good but season 1 set the bar very high. It's still very good though.

The thing that seems to tick most viewers this season is the pacing. It starts in 1916 and as of the end of episode 6 we're at the of the year 1918. There are huge leaps in time but it seems to take place only over a few months because the characters to pick up their conversations where we left them the last time we saw them.

What bugs me the most is the Mary/Matthew storyline (one of my favorite plots in season 1). It's clear that the writer is dragging things out to get us to season 3 and I don't like the unresolved feeling it leaves us with.

I know it seems like I'm grumbling a lot but I'm really enjoying it and I think it's definitely worth a watch. It ends at episode 8 next week but there also will be a Christmas special that continues the story.

Oh yar, I get where you're coming from. Mary&Matthew were one of my favourite things about season 1 and I need progress for them. I have such love for Dan Stevens because of the BBC version of Sense & Sensibility too.

oki, I'll see when I'm done with projects next week.

I enjoyed this episode VERY VERY MUCH too!

Oh my, the preview for the next episode looks wonderful! *__*

I have an undying love for the actress playing Snow White. Ever since I saw her in "He's Just Not That Into You" (you should watch that movie, Mousie), it's just been an obsession.

Forget about Pan Am or Homeland, just watch Revenge! It's the only show worthy of your attention!

What's this "Fables" that everyone's talking about?

I liked OUAT enough to keep watching (and it's at the perfect airtime right before bedtime for me) but I have to agree with some other posters that I can actually feel the cheese in a bad way >_< usually my brain totally embraces the cheese. Oh well, it's been a long time since I've seen a good fairy tale show (the last was Merlin from the 90's) so I'll stick around.
I want to try Pan Am too but it's on at like 10pm eastern time (ugh, they need to switch it with Desperate Housewives).

I liked the Pilot episode. I confess that I only start watching it for Jamie Dornan - which I luuuuuurve (the hot sheriff), but the story is also very intriguing. Its NOT like any other around.
