This is pretty much utter crack

The first two eps of The Holy Pearl didn't really grab me (so much exposition! so much crazy King!) but starting with ep 3, I am addicted. Hot half-demon dude helps.
Our heroine is being chased by a snake demon (hey, worse things happen to time-travellers in period cdramas), so she runs into a cave to discover a hot half-demon boy snowglobe.

"Isn't this decor a little too postmodern for this ancient time?" wonders the heroine.

Snake demon (who is clearly not the brainiest) propels her past the barrier and her magical amulet wakes the pretty up.

I know I am going to ship Yao Yao (gal) and Wen Tian (guy) because look at them - bickering from their first meeting!

Wisely deciding she will deal with the moral issue of whether she's just unleashed a horrible demon on the world later, she releases him to kill the snake demon. Nice teeth, Wen Tian!

Yao Yao thinks so too!

Buttering up will get you...nowhere.

The perils of being a dead ringer/reincarnation of someone you have no idea about.

I ship general and demoness. This will end well.

Half-demon boy angsts so prettily! No go get it on with her reincarnation please!

Bwahahahahahaa.

Yao Yao wants him as a travel companion? Well, I suppose if you need someone to protect you, this might not be bad, as long as he doesn't decide he's bored and wants to practice his killing skills on his travelling companion.

I love this. You go girl!

Smoooooth.

Pretty half-demon has issues! Pretty, violent issues he takes out on demons who try to eat the heroine!

I approve of guys giving their potential OTPs weapons to defend themselves.

Heroine, ILY and your forthrightness. This drama is not likely to have forced misunderstandings with you around.

This was funny and cute and adorable.

You aint' lying, girlfriend. I wouldn't kick him out of bed, horns and all :P

Seriously, so pretty!

OTP! OTP! OTP!

Umm, yes, yes he does.

Anyway, this thing is utter utter crack and now I am interested in checking out Inuyasha.

Date: 2011-10-05 09:55 pm (UTC)The c-drama looks great. Man, are they all pretty :) The dialogue is very amusing and feels much more mature than the anime. Inuyasha and Kagome would often bicker in and extremely childish manner (not tat it wasn't fun in its own way, but you know...) and here the bickering seems more adult and intelligent.
BTW do they bother to credit the original in any way? This is way to faithful for them to pretend its not an adaptation.

I think it's because (understandably) they aged everyone up. E.g. heroine is a grad student.
It also looks like they are going to make Sesshomaru/Rin canon - I used to have a girl on my flist who was a major S/R shipper and I wish she was still active on LJ so I could tell her to watch this :)

Date: 2011-10-05 10:19 pm (UTC)It is very slow though due to the long run. But the couples are cute (there are 2) and it's really funny too. And even though Inuyasha saves Kagome about a gazillion times, she's really tough for a modern day girl facing time travel, demons and giant snake monsters.

Date: 2011-10-06 02:08 am (UTC)I used to watch Inuyasha too but it went on and on and on till I gave up watching. I didn't care too much for Inuyasha/Kagome though but I enjoyed the supporting characters. :)

Date: 2011-10-06 03:47 am (UTC)And the anime is definitely worth a try - plucky characters, some delightfully creepy stuff mixed in with the fun, pretty colours and music, etc. And Sesshoumaru ;-). (Though, as others have said, it goes on and on and on. Still, watching the first season or two is very doable, as it hasn't gone into rinse-and-repeat cycle yet.)

Date: 2011-10-06 05:00 am (UTC)I'm very fond of Inuyasha, so it's brilliant fun watching these so-similar-yet-different characters running around in high fantasy Nan Yue instead of Sengoku Era Japan.
If you're on the fence about Inuyasha -- I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. It's got demon hunters and perverted monks and a really, really creepy villain plus all the bickering OTP you can want in a story. Kagome is one the least whiny, most proactive anime heroines I've ever seen, and the fight that happens between the two half-brothers over their father's heirloom is EPIC.
Check it out: (SPOILERS up to end of Holy Pearl Ep 6!)

It's one of my favourite scenes =)
And so glad you introduced me to Holy Pearl -- I'll continue watching~!

Date: 2011-10-06 10:43 am (UTC)I hope you check out Inuyasha. Inuyasha at first glance is pretty annoying, but you have to understand his back story. He's an orphan who's had to raise himself so he does not have the same social graces as ordinary people. He's also aggressive and bad tempered since he's also had to defend for his life throughout his whole life. He is also discriminated for being a half demon. Demonds deem him weak while humans are scared of him.

Inuyasha
Date: 2011-10-15 03:18 am (UTC)However to be honest I'd tell you to go online where they list all the filler episodes and skip them all. Seriously there was like 80 episodes in a row of filler at some point.
The ending anime was great too. I was a Kagome/Inuyasha shipper and HATED Zombie Kikyo but could understand her pain...but still she was a zombie so kill the heifer with fire.
Ah fanwars...fond memories.
I ship Sess and adult Rin too...lol
I guess I should quit messing around and watch this. I keep mentioning it to other people without watching it myself. Have to support Ah Gil's comeback afterall.
