Smallville: spectacular angst
Dec. 17th, 2005 02:07 amSo we went to my house and watched more Smallville. Oh My God. So much gorgeous Lex angst. We decided that Lex needs about a year's worth of hugs (and more) from Clark, who continues to be unearthly gorgeous and significantly lacking in the acting department. Are Kryptonians part Vulcan?
Asylum Be still my heart. Forget the slashy subtext. It felt like a fanfic in the amount of slash it had. Clark freaking out and worrying about Lex the whole ep and going against his parents and completely uninterested in Lana, even rolling his eyes at one point (while his Mom tried to push him towards her, as if she was worried her son was gay :P) and sending her a cheapie $1.50 card (as if he couldn't buy her a nicer $2.99 one, yay!) And visiting Lex in the asylum with the touching and the holding and Lex's desperation and keeping Clark's secret. And Clark trying to stop electroshock and busting in despite Lex yelling at him earlier and ripping that cage off Lex. And Clark yelling Lex's name as he gets dragged out and Lex only being worried about Clark and screaming his name even though his own brain-frying is coming up. And of course Clark racing to rescue Lex but unwittingly being the one who turns the machine on (and poor Lex is so scared and pleading in it too). And then the end, with poor brain-washed Lex saying he didn't forget one thing: how much Clark means to him, and then they hug and awwwww...
Unfortunately, then slash content gets drastically cut down but I can't get mad after Shattered and Asylum slash overdose. I did think it was cute how Lex left his car keys deliberately for Clark to take advantage of and their conversation in the barn afterwards where both knew what the other meant. They might be on the outs, because I think Lex resents Clark not telling him what he knows and Clark feels bad but wants to protect his secret and also Lex, as he sees how bad things got last time, but then we get to Memoria which was actually a good ep in and of itself and kinda ripped my heart out too, what with big dumb puppy Clark worried about Lex's memory-recalling procedure and how it can fry Lex's brain (just tell him, Clark) so doing a dumb thing and going to Lionel of all people, but instead being "lured" and Lex rescuing him. And then there is all this pain in their conversations, and of course the thing about what really happened to Julian which was beyond heart-breaking because you see that once upon a time Lionel did act paternal towards Lex and Lex was so desperately grateful for it. But then his psycho mother killed Julian (and how adorable is that Lex is so excited about a baby brother. A lot of kids would be resentful, seeing how Lionel doted on Julian), and Lex did what he always does. He took the blame on himself to protect someone he loved. He keeps doing it over and over and over and it just breaks your heart because you know that he thinks that if he loves unconditionally, maybe people will love him that way back but it never works out. And that last heart-breaking scene with Lex and Lionel where Lex finally explains what he did and Lionel sort of breaks apart because you realize that Julian's death has been standing between them like a wall for all these years, and it's no wonder their relationship is so fucked up because Lionel is evil yes, but thinking that your kid killed his brother is a huge thing to overcome, and he was a better father pre-Julian. And Lionel saying that he wishes he knew it earlier and Lex replying that yes, because then he (Lionel) could have loved him (Lex) and
Honestly, Lex is by far the nicest and most interesting and the coolest character on the show. He is also dead sexy which is insane because he is not goodlooking at all. I think it's a combo of cool character and actor's charisma.
We have a new fave secondary character: it's Clark stalker girl. Not only does she induce more than two emotions in Clark, she also tries to slice Lana's face off with a knife. Yay. (Also, Lana is half-alive even in the scenes with Lex, which is quite something. But it's still more alive than she is elsewhere, where she is as plastic as a plastic bag factory)
Also, because of ff, Clark has yet to annoy me.
I need happy post-Asylum or post-Memoria fic.

Date: 2005-12-17 08:22 am (UTC)Yes, yes, yes! See, this is why it just doesn't make sense when, after this, the writers start doing the whole, "All Luthors are eeeeeeeeeeeeeviiiiiiiiil!!!!11! *hiss*" schtick. They show us this whole season all about what an adorable, misunderstood woobie Lex is and then, what? Someone flips the 'on' switch in the 'evil mode' box on his back? And then momentarily flips it back whenever the plot calls for Clark and Lex to be friends again? The writers suck.
Also, yay Alicia!

Date: 2005-12-17 08:29 am (UTC)This actually kills me, because I would give a lot to see these characters and the premise done by someone who knows what to do with them. Because there is so much potential in all the post Asylum stuff and all the Clark and Lex stuff and everything.
