I thought it's because they live in a conservative society. Would 8th want others to look down on RX if someone happen to walk there and see them doing it in the open when she's a palace maid/virgin/not married etc.?

I think it's just really intense making out session lolz. 8 also described it as such when he told 4, ie, there were only kisses and hugs, and 4 already went mad. I can't imagine what 4 would do if the intimacy went beyond that haha.
But omg, I still can't get over these two. When this ship went down my heart literally sank with it :'( and they're not even the OTP!
I supposed it doesn't help that I have a big ole RX & 8 pic on my desktop background and everytime I pull the screen up I'm reminded of the AGONY.

Thing is, in one of the later episodes where Ruo Xi was sharing with Thirteen her worries about Yong Zheng finding out about her past with Eight, Thirteen asked, "What stage did you two advance to? Skinship (in the narrowest sense)?"

And Ruoxi didn't give a definite answer.
