I enjoyed the first two eps of Poseidon.
There, I said it.
It is cheesy and with a soundtrack from hell but it's an enjoyable ride despite (or maybe because) of its flaws. I am almost always a sucker for an action or revenge kdrama (it shows how awful Athena was that I couldn't stand it), with its overwrought ernestness and tough ladies and guys showing off their abs even more than they fire their guns.
This is no IRIS (one of my favorite dramas of all time and properly somber, even searing). This is its tacky yet loveable cousin. What makes it so loveable is its cast of characters - Lee Sung Jae and Choi Siwon are both huge favorites in their different ways, and the trope of burned-out/grief-stricken detectives rediscovering meaning in pursuing the enemy is one I really like. Plus, Siwon and his future OTP are adorable together and I am already invested. The one weak link is the horrific Yunho - how a man can be both this good-looking and good at singing and this utterly lacking in acting talent or on-screen charisma, is a mystery, especially since this is not his first drama. I believe they should have saved his wages and used a cardboard cut-out instead - we'd get better emoting.
The mystery at the heart of the story is interesting and with enough emotionals stakes for the characters that I am invested (though honestly, mob dude, offing someone's loved one is not warning, it's a way to declare war).
Overall, pretty good fun. It's much more of a jdrama than a kdrama, tbh, but that's not a bad thing. But for heaven's sake, stop naming dramas after mythological beings. It's getting old.
Tomorrow, I am catching up on The Princess' Man because apparently I haven't had enough drama angst yet.
