Love Never Dies - Thailand does Twilight
Sep. 23rd, 2011 06:48 pmWell, not really, since the heroine is no doormat and hero is not a perpetual teenager who sparkles. But never let facts interfere with a snappy post title :P
I started watching ep 13 of Bu Bu Jing Xin but had to stop about ten minutes in because seeing Eight, Ruoxi and the rest of them so happy and well-adjusted was making me bawl.
What I needed, I figured, was something cheesy, full of hot people, and wangst as opposed to real misery.

Enter Love Never Dies, a recent lakorn about an angsty vamp who is trying to break his curse and his plucky human art-restorer OTP (portrayed by Dome and Ploy who are, apparently, exes in real life. Must have been an interesting shoot). Plus it has vamp teeth! I have yet to see vamp teeth in anything without laughing like a 5-yr-old. Any cheese factor increases by 10,000 automatically as soon as the fangs are out :P
I am most of the way through the first ep (out of 12 eps. Each ep is about 1:30 long). So much fun! First off, let's get the most shallow comment out of the way: Dome is so freaking sexy, it evokes odd feelings in bizarre parts of my body. :P Under some angles, he reminds me a bit of Jo In Sung, which if you know my JIS-fangirling self, is a big deal. I cracked up when one of the secondary characters said that Dome's character looked like a leading man in a kdrama. Because so true. Mmmm.
Anyway, the chemistry between the leads is insane, I adore the heroine, who is spunky and tough but also warm. I like the treasure-chasing aspect (to break the curse) and since I rarely go for bad boys, I love that the hero is a Stefan and not Damon (to use a Vampire Diaries comparison).
Anyway, have a MV:
This is so beyond shippy and cheesy cheesy cheesy and and cute!
You can find it subbed on viki.

Date: 2011-09-24 06:14 am (UTC)In 12 episodes there were:
3 suicides
1 Hit and run
Blackmail
2 kidnappings
2 shootings/attempted murders
1 rape
1 attempted rape
2 brain surgeries
I lost count of the hospitalizations
Political corruption/bribery
6 Cat fights ( at least)
Pushing, shoving, hair pulling and slapping ( OMG the slapping. I think that just about everyone got slapped at least once. Some many times.)
And lets not forget the Amnesia and Split Personalities.
It was such a total trainwreck that I just couldn't look away. It sort of reminded me of some Phillipine dramas that I've seen. But with roid rage. I spent the entire drama alternating between "say wha..?" and inapropriate fits of the giggles. Cue dramatic organ music now!
My question is:
Does this sound like just your average lakorn? Or did I just pick a real winner? :)

Date: 2011-09-24 12:00 pm (UTC)AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, Lakorns are the kind of dramas I wouldn't recommand to people close to me (maybe except dramas like Roy Mai or Booteun Gleep Sudtai). Lakorn are so...the plot is sometimes so ridiculous that it is appealing or the directing is cheap cough*action lakorns*cough. The actors are sure not bad looking.

Anyway, lakorn are obviously from another planet!!!
Not sure that I will ever check on other lakorn (mostly because of the over use of violence and rape --you wrote already about that--) but thanks anyway LND was a nice ride!!! (yum, TriPoom....)
