I think I have just fallen in love with Fourteen. If you've seen ep 9, you know precisely the scene that made me - the one in Kang Xi's court where Kang Xi accuses Eight of scheming and orders him arrested and Fourteen steps forward and talks back (!!!!!) and keeps talking back, utterly fearless, because he loves his brother so much and because he's got more guts than anyone. And offers his life as guarantee and doesn't flinch as Kang Xi grabs a sword and comes at him. And even after the only reason he isn't dead is that all the brothers got in the way, he's still defiant. (He only gets off with a beating. Ahhh, the joys of Qing China).

Anyway, now I am crushing on him with the rest of you.

In other news, Four sent Ruoxi a pendant for New Year's and she doesn't want it but I do - it's exquisite. Their scene when he was asking why she was not wearing it sent my hormones aflutter...mmmm, need more Ruoxi/Four pls.

In conclusion - go Fourteen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Do any of them have names btw? It's bizarre to address them by numbers, like Cyborgs).

Yes, Fourteen is such a straightforward person. He's the one constantly reminding Ruoxi how nice his brother has been to her and that she ought appreciate his efforts. The brotherly love!!

Fourteen will play an even greater role in the second half, so watch out for him!

14's my historical crush! but 4 is totally taking over with his intense gaze. i find it hard to breathe sometimes when 4 does his eye staring thing. and this drama is doing a good job with making my heart go crazy every time someone does as little as holding hands. i mean, all they do is drink tea and talk and talk and talk, and back to tea, but sparks are flying off everywhere.

hmm about 14's talking back, i dunno, 10 did the exact same thing when he pointed out how 2 is a total undeserving ass but he got grilled for being brash. i think 14 is being brash here too. you kinda don't outright argue with the emperor. you wait for his temper to cool down and choose your words... i can already see why 4 takes the throne in the end. he's a lot smarter than all of them combined.

That bromance scene where all the Ah Ges all get in Kang Xi's way so he won't chop down Fourteen makes me cry because this is likely the most family-like they'll ever be. It's so sad too the aftermath of that scene because Four is right with his logic that he should've stayed put to prevent putting Fourteen into further danger by making Kang Xi feel that all of his sons were against him but it's counterintuitive against the instinct of brotherly emotion. So much angst!

Four's name is Yinzhen, Eight's name is Yinsi, Fourteen's name is Yinti. After Four becomes Emperor, his brothers all change names so their generational markers of Yin become Yun. This is to avoid the taboo of sharing a character the same as the Emperor and also explains why sometimes Emperors avoided choosing common characters for their regnal name to prevent this having to happen to commoners as well since this taboo applies to ALL of their names. Ah, sorry to have gone into lecture mode since you likely knew this too.

Thanks for the name explanation. I knew some of it but not all.

Kang Xi really needed to have had a Crown Prince and stuck to his guns of some sort, not leave a succession bloodbath.

I am madly curious as to how Four is going to turn into a monster because as for now, he is reserved and cautious but very very very far from one.
