Ever wanted a period cdrama with epic battles that was yet woman-centric? I think I may have found one for you - Ruby Lin's upcoming magnum opus Qing Shi Huang Fei, starring Ruby herself as the protagonist, a princess tangled in plots and rebellions of the time, Yan Kuan (who I loved since Da Ren Wu) as her OTP and Wallace Huo (!!!!!!) as the story's antihero. It is set in the fractured times between Tang and Song dynasties.

Plus, this official MV made me nearly die of glee at the angst and shipping and hurt/comfort and swords and dysfunction.

Here is the official trailer:

I think I have my most anticipated drama for 2011.

It's a good thing I adore YK because I'd find it hard to resist Wallace Huo, furs and desire to marry a woman by threatening her OTP notwithstanding. In Ruby's place, I'd totally do timeshares with the two of them.

I've never watched a drama of Wallace Huo's (I just know him from the MVs you post on your blog), but I gotta admit there's just something about him...I didn't look twice when I saw him first in pictures, but he's so charismatic on screen (and I have no idea what he's even saying cus there are no subs :P).

Yes, he is very telegenic. I have yet to see him in something I don't like.

I've heard nothing of this one, but it looks gorgeous.

I know! Apparently it's based on a novel.

Yeah it's based on a novel where the main character is a princess of a fallen dynasty and she becomes the concubine of 3 emperors so it's using her narrative to basically describe the error which was really messy politically with the rise and fall of different countries and such.

I know the novel is a tragedy and I heard they did change the series adaptation to be a HEA instead from what I heard.

Also, I'm of the same opinion with YK and WH. I'm hoping YK can break out with this role.

Thanks! From what I can glean from spcnet (and the trailer bears it out), they are mainly concentrating on her relationship with two of the three.

I heard different things about the ending of the drama but it's a period piece so chances of happy ending is 0.5% if it goes as usual.

I really adore YK and think he is ridiculously underrated. I don't get it - he can act, he looks perfect in period get-up, he's got a screen presence and he's utterly hot. WTF, cdrama world! Get it together! I don't think he can match up to Wallace as far as sheer screen-burning charisma goes, and the trailer bears it out, but then who can?

If I were Ruby's character, I'd have really hot obsession sex with Wallace on odd days and righteous OTP sex with YK on even :P Problem solved. :)

You know, between that, FengMi's Tiger Amulet drama, The Royal Harem, the Zhang Han/Bai Bing drama and the upcoming Liu Bei-Xiang Yu drama, I am going to be wallowing in period cdramas. Ah, heaven!

LOL, that's how I prefer it too. I used to just watch wuxia but then I branched out into historical drama especially since wuxia started permeating other dramas that aren't really wuxia.

And yeah, YK really has all the qualities that should make him more of a lead than just a frequent support character or cameo but that's all he does so I'm hoping he'll be able to show off his main lead chops. Da Ren Wu gypped him. I was so annoyed at his ending.

Also, with all the UST going on, I think that's likely what Ruby's character metaphorically does. LOL

Yes, I find I prefer straight period drama to wuxia, though I like the latter too.

Argh, Da Ren Wu! He was my favorite character! I can't believe they gave him a happy ending and THEN killed him off. ARGHARGHARGHARGH *tears out hair* WTF!!!

I don't think it's just metaphorical. She is a concubine after all :P
