They own my heart!
Sep. 11th, 2011 12:50 amSince watching The Princess' Man is only marginally more cheerful than getting the plague, I've been leavening it with watching My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho. I seriously have no idea what the hell was wrong with me the first time around because I love the drama but I beyond adore the OTP. They may end up on my all-time favorite list. Seriously, was I posessed by a Grinch or something? Because how could I not love them with all my heart and soul?
Jealousy:

He brought her to class!!!!

They make me so happy! I don't think they will displace Yu Rin/Gong Chan as my favorite Hong Sisters couple (or Mongryong/Chunhyang as runners up) but they are so precious I have no words!
Secondary Girl is such a user but I can't even loathe her because she is such a non-threat (and, let's face it, a non-actress - Hong Sisters rarely get good actors/actresses for secondaries and that makes sense as they usually don't give them much of a role).

Date: 2011-09-11 05:19 am (UTC)I think part of it is because when you look back at the writing and at the other dramas at the time, for the most part, they're solid and still hold up over time, unlike some dramas.
MGIAG isn't my favorite drama, but when I rewatched parts of it, I enjoyed it more then I did the first time.
Maybe you should tackle The Greatest Love in a couple of years?

Date: 2011-09-11 05:29 am (UTC)I do find that romcoms, in general, are better for me when I watch them at my own pace and not have to wait week-to-week.
This said, I don't think I'll change my opinion of BL. With YAB, I loved the first half and then fandom insanity and the fact that I had preconcieved notions of how I wanted it to go and it didn't go that way, took over. And with Gumiho, I didn't dislike it or anything but I was just blah and I bailed by ep 4 (my one big problem was Woong's immaturity/cowardice in early eps but that is why marathonning is good - by ep 5 he's pretty awesome which is fine but if you want 3 weeks for that, without knowing you are going to get it, I get antsy). With BL, I had nothing against the fandom or any preconceived notions. I also got through at least ep 10. My problem was that Dokko Jin was too much of a cartoon for me to be invested - I didn't dislike him but I wasn't attached to him either. I can't see that changing - I am awfully allergic to overacting, even when it's on purpose. And I felt the chemistry btw him and GHJ was lacking and that's an actor/actress compatibility thing.
I think BL will end up like Fantasy Couple for me - I can appreciate the drama but I don't love it.
Of course, nothing will ever be as amazing as Hong Gil Dong. That drama ruined me for any other HS drama for life, almost. I think that is where a lot my my initial YAB disappointment stemmed from. Because I found HGD so moving and profound and then we got YAB which was, even at my kindest and its best, a charming, sweet, lovely trifle.
