Love Keeps Going - ep 1
Sep. 6th, 2011 09:57 pmWell, actually about halfway through ep 1 - first ep is over 1:30 long (!!!)
I like it. It's not earthshaking or anything but it's pleasant. I think a lot of it, however, would depend on how much you like Cyndi Wang. I find her adorable so I am invested and amused, but if you are not a fan, it will probably fall pretty flat.
The story of LKG revolves around Mei Le (Cyndi), a young woman who dedicated herself to being useful, believing only useful people are loved. However, her life gets derailed when her fiance leaves her for another woman and her professional/personal plans all fall apart. And then she meets her former fiance's ascerbic brother (Mike He).
I actually quite like the concept - everyone in Mei Le's life so far doesn't love her for her, they love her for what she can do (she is organized, skilled, with good job etc), even her mother. But that is not really what love should be about - it is not supposed to be conditional, based on what you can do for another person. That is something in an employment situation, not an emotional one. So I hope Mei Le learns to be loved for herself and learn to value herself and not just what she can do for other people. So far, the only person who makes her get grumpy and get out of 'born to please' mode is Mike He's character, so that is a good sign.

Date: 2011-09-08 12:58 am (UTC)I loathed the first few eps, really liked eps 4-9, then spent all the other eps resisting the urge to throw the laptop against the wall. >.< I think it was overall pleasant, but could have been so much more.
I wish TW-dramas would more often be able to sustain their theme throughout the drama. I loved the message that My Queen started with, but in the end it still fizzled. All dramas need to learn from Love You in keeping thematic consistency. :p

"Mike He/Rainie kisses are legendary but I sometimes think they get more attention than they deserve solely due to the enthusiasm Mike brings to the scenes. Passionate is good but how can anyone possibly enjoy something that busy? "
