I guess this is a period equivalent of an angsty shower scene.
Bonus points for doing it after shirtless sword-practice to work out issues...
Pretty, angsty SY, who now believes his entire family is dead and he has nothing to live for other than revenge.

By now, I rather like and pity Myun. His tragedy and sin are that he is a weak person in hard times. But he is not actively evil.

Can I at least have a moment where she reciprocates his feelings before the inevitable death and horribleness? I mean, Jung is the only one of all the characters who would make a good husband.

Worst wedding day/reunion with your supposedly dead lover ever.

Date: 2011-09-06 05:48 am (UTC)Do you think that when SY saw SR in her wedding attire, he thought about what could have been? Or was he all focused on kidnapping her with no other thoughts going through his mind?
And I found it heartbreaking that he was trying to destroy the rings. I was really surprised as well. When he picked them up, I was expecting him to keep them (kind of the only thing he could allow himself to keep from "before"). Him destroying them really brought home how damaged he was. I don't think we can even consider it hopeful that one of the rings is still intact.
Just over 24hrs before episode 15 airs. This is like torture. To make it better, I'm going to treat myself to episodes 13 & 14 tonight (again). I need to check that there are no typos or errors in my French subtittles. I can only release them when the next week's episodes are at 100% on Viki but the main subber there works pretty fast and I have some translation to do starting from thursday. It's better to get the previous episodes checked and ready to go before that.

Date: 2011-09-06 10:49 pm (UTC)I think he was not thinking of what could have been at all - I think he locked the 'before' part of himself far far away so he could cope and function.
And about the rings - I think the only reason one ring was unsmashed was because she interrupted him - he clearly had that rock upraised to do more damage. Yes, the thought of him sitting there, smashing those rings - it's both scary and makes me pity him horribly.

Date: 2011-09-06 11:55 pm (UTC)Speaking of episode 15...did you see the preview? OMG, SY's face at the beginning! Well, technically, I should say his eyes because he's still wearing the mask. I'm going to slurp all that angst like an addict tomorrow.
Yeah, he was clearly going to smash the second ring as well. Bur SR interrupted him just in time. I hope this is not foreshadowing that one will die and one will live on at the end. Gosh, just the act of smashing the rings with the rock is pretty creepy/scary. Some men would have thrown them into a river or something but SY really felt the need to destroy them in a very brutal way so that all traces of his attachement would be wiped out from the earth.

Date: 2011-09-07 12:09 am (UTC)On optimistic front, maybe it means he's broken and she's whole? Because it's true - she may be grieving but she is not a destroyed wreck like he is.

Date: 2011-09-07 07:16 am (UTC)According to history, Jong dies while trying to put his brother-in-law back on the throne so I think that him getting arrested now wouldn't prevent some baby making in the future.
I'm pretty sure Jong and Kyung Hye haven't had a wedding night yet as well.
I like your analysis of the rings. It's true that she's whole while he's hopelessly broken.
