World's hottest yet most incompetent spies

I was rewatching parts of ep 13 of Myung Wol and it struck me that the real reason North Korea sent Myung Wol, Ryu et al wasn't to get those mystical mumbo-jumbo books or to get a Hallyu star to defect. No, they just wanted an excuse to get the most incompetent spies out of the way by any means possible. I mean, the way they are incompetent is EPIC.



1. Choe Ryu, supposedly a major in special ops and super-tough never seems to check if he is tailed and cannot free himself from goons when tied up. You just know if it was City Hunter, he'd kill them with his pinkie unless they drugged him first.

2. Choe Ryu also allows his feelings to compromise the mission. If MW's goal is to seduce and keep Kang Woo so he'd defect, surely trying to get her heart would only complicate things. Ryu, good thing you are super-hot because you FAIL as a spy.






3. Myung Wol, let's talk about you. Your lover, who was the sweetest, happiest guy, is all of a sudden a moody destroyed mess. This happened right after you stole a mystical mumbo-jumbo book from him. And you are not even wondering if those may be connected?




4. And while we are at it, what kind of spy doesn't at least check the house she is about to steal from to make sure there is nobody there? So yes, after you stole his stuff from his house without checking to see if he is there, it doesn't occur to you to wonder whether his fits have something to do with you?




That's how a girl loses a perfectly awesome marriage proposal! (You know, KW should just return that ginormous engagement ring - every time he gets it out, disaster strikes).

6. Not that you are off the hook, Ryu! What sort of a genius idea is it to break into Kang Woo's bedroom in the middle of the night! How did you think it was going to go? Best you could hope for would be that KW would think you are a gay stalker, and how likely is that? Seriously, wtf? He is just lucky MW and KW were in their own post-coital world because otherwise...seriously, wtf?







7. Not that you come to your senses in the morning! Let's see - I need to discuss business with fellow spy. Do I (a) wait a few hours, call her on her cell and arrange a meeting in a nondescript location or do I (b) break into her boyfriend's bedroom while she is still in bed there and he's only stepped out to get the mail so as to discuss the sensitive information on stealing stuff from bf right there. If you pick (a), you have a modicum of common sense. If you picked (b), you are Choe Ryu.







8. For God's sake, if you are a spy, keep your background story consistent and documented. Don't just have each person give a different take and create a fake paper trail. If a random PI can uncover everything is fake in a day, you FAIL. (I still can't believe KW threw away all that info without reading after their night together and only read it after overhearing the betrayal - KW really should use his head over his heart - he is desperate to believe her but still...)





9. Don't fall in love with your target!



10. Don't mix missions. Ryu, that's on you again - I know you need those idiotic books, but surely you must realize that involving MW would sabotage her own mission to get Kang Woo to defect.

At least MW was not an agent before, the other three have no excuse for failing Spy 101.

And he even told her that the book is missing. Even a normal person will make the connection.

I think that he still keeps the ring. I'm almost sure he will propose again and I hope there will be no disaster next time.

Ryu failed so hard as a spy when he broke into the KW's room. And then in the morning he failed even harder. :)

I know! He even asked her about it! The only thing I can think of is that she is in denial because otherwise she'd have to confront how hopeless any future happiness is for them.

At the rate this is going, the next time he is getting that ring out, someone is getting shot!

Ryu - I know he is all emo the woman he likes slept with someone else but come on - common sense! Plus, genius, her mission was to seduce and marry KW, what did you think was going to happen during that? They were going to play solitaire in bed?

I am totally stunned (in a good way) that despite what any reasonable person would have taken as major red flags (beyond flags even, tbh), KW was going to throw away info on MW unread - he really loves her beyond reason.

I noticed about that bad luck ring and LOL for #7. When you mentioned all of those facts, I just realized both of them are really incompetent spies. Since I don't really take this drama so seriously esp when Myung Wol's mission is already a nonsense mission, I'm still able to have fun watching it ;p.

Yup. I have studied a fair bit about NK and the only way I can enjoy this drama is by taking that knowledge and locking it far far away.

omg IFKR they are all so stupid. i was just questioning whether myungwol had lost her mind when she made the connection after fake mother called her. she was kindof zombie-ish when she pulled out the book, so i guess she wasn't thinking clearly enough, but still. ryu is ridiculous, though!!!! WHAT THE HELL RYU!!!!!!

as for kang woo: he was like, as long as your feelings are sincere, it's ok. but when he saw her and ryu aftwerwards, it didn't change anything??? he already knew she stole his book, and he knew they were 'close'. like, if only the guy hadn't snuck into his goddamn house first thing in the morning. smh.

Seriously. At least MW was never a spy before, Ryu supposedly has years of experience. If a scatter-brained Hallyu actor can find them out, they really are hopeless.
