There is nothing that will ever get me to watch Scent of a Woman (terminal cancer is the sole absolute no for me in dramas) but this tango scene in ep 8 that I've seen flisties rave about is, indeed, hot:

Now, if this drama had some other topic...

I am the same way, I never do tragic endings/cancer dramas (the closest I ever came to a tragic ending was Utahime, well 49 days too I guess, but that one is tricky) but when I watched one episode of Scent of a Woman I realized that I don't care about the ending I just need to see this romance unfold and I need to see the heroine be happy. And really, the way the heroine deals with her sickness is not frightening or tragic, it's actually very empowering and in a way beautiful. She just wants to be happy in her last 6 months and seeing that kind of character is very refreshing in a Korean drama where everyone is usually obsessed about one thing or another.

There are certain "tragic" dramas that are not difficult to watch (like 49 days) or that are definitely worth watching (like Utahime) and Scent of a Woman is both for me. It's not painfully sad but it's also meaningful enough that I will stick with it until the end (even if the end will be brutally sad).

I didn't find Utahime or 49 Days particularly tragic (my bar is huge for tragedy) but due to family history, the thought of cancer-related stuff used as entertainment makes me sick. Basically, they could have naked Lee Byung Hun in this one, and I still wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot-pole.

I understand where you are coming from, but I don't really see any difference between cancer related stuff used as entertaiment and other diseases or for example abuse or accidental death used as entertaiment. I also have a history of cancer in my family (thankfully my mother is okay after a year of treatment) but I'm still able to enjoy the drama despite certain fears it triggers in me. I don't like and avoid cancer movies/fiction but somehow this drama is different (I think the romance really overpowers everything else). Not proposing that you should check it out anyway, just relating my personal experience :)

Oh, I understand it's different for everyone (if I came across as judgey, I didn't mean it to). i have no problem with other terminal illness dramas (Snow Queen, Taiyu no Uta) but cancer is a no - didn't use to be (I watched Silence obsessively) but in the last few years it became an automatic out.

I never go near terminal illness related dramas too but I had to give this a try and it is my favourite drama of this season. well one of two. Protect the Boss and Scent of Woman are giving me enough satisfaction that I don't really care about other ones out there.
ps. I did not find 49 Days Tragic in anyways too and was total OK with the ending even though lots of people thought they were tricked into it.

I did not like the ending of 49 Days because I felt it was not earned but mmv.

You know, I usually don't watch dramas that I know may not end happy.. It's such a disappointment when it ends badly...

But Scent of a Woman is so good that I don't care. I'll drown myself in tears by the end, I know, but I'm enjoying every minute of it. It's SO good. Such chemistry!

I don't mind unhappy endings but terminal illnesses are a no.

Is it because it's too sad, or too cliche?

Oh, it's not like I will get ptsd or anything, just some family history...

Omg, that was electrifying with sensuality... makes me want to give it a shot with this drama but.. terminal illness is not looking too appealing!
