I am home sick today but you know what makes everything better? A double dose of Park Shi Hoo, that's what. Subs are out for eps 5 and 6 of TPM and I have just finished ep 5. This drama is not only gorgeous and complicated, it's tremendously moving. It's on track of becoming my favorite drama of 2011.

It's a little jarring to switch from Family Honor to TPM - to go from Park Shi Hoo being an arrogant cold-blooded jerk in suits to a tormented woobie in period clothing, but because I am strong-minded, I managed :P

Sooyang appears and SR is dragged out - note SY still has no idea she's Sooyang's daughter and is freaked out of his mind as to what will happen to her. His daughter loving his enemy's son is like a punishment for Sooyang's ambition.

He begs the guards to tell him what happened to SR but they won't say, scared for their own necks. Oh, darling darling OTP.

Sooyang is a good father and loves his daughter, but not enough to sacrifice his political goals. It's pretty clear that at the end he will succeed (and let's face it, he deserves to - the current king is utterly useless) but will pay for it with loss of person he values most. Anyway, SR begs for SY's life, and Daddy promises but has no intention of keeping his word.

Sooyang confronts Crown Princess. I feel horrible for CP - she is hemmed in, a gorgeous slave, pretty much. Her weary sigh when her servant tells her they picked a groom for her and her asking 'what is the point in knowing the name' really got me.

He refuses to tell who the woman was with him to save her. AWWWW.

This kills me because his friend is so happy to see him escape with his life. I wonder how their relationship will deteriorate to the point where the friend who rejoiced so will betray him to his likely death.

She takes a look at him being released.

Oh, seriously, I love SY. He kills me.

Mmmm, sexy angst via sword-practice. I approve.

Wedding. At this point, I feel so awful for Crown Princess (and how her relationship with SR deteriorated, and how she is trapped, and how she's terrified).

Our lovers see each other again.

But he tells her he hopes they will never meet again - he's resolved to stick by his family and be a dutiful son, clearly.

Oh, and it continues ridiculously gorgeous.

As a bonus, have PSH in Family Honor, being an awesome oppa:

Ahhh, if only it wasn't a horrible tragedy in the making I would be on this drama like fleas on a dog :)

Squeeeeee. Weren't these two episodes awesome? I'm so addicted to this drama that I've already translated and released episode 5 for the French community and I've done about a quarter of episode 6. I want more people to watch it.

I've noticed it's going the same way as The Duo: despite DSM and Viki, it's flying pretty much under the radar because WithS2 hasn't taken it up as a project (well, it's annouced as a special VIA project and Yay! for us but, who knows when the subs will come out? And most people aren't VI members anyway. The thread on Soompi doesn't have many pages compared to other dramas. I hope it will gain in popularity over the next few weeks.

Back to the episodes proper...I, too, wonder how the friendship between Myun and SY will deteriorate to the point that one will betray the other. So far, we've only seen a smidge of envy from Myun. Nothing to justify a betrayal of such magnitude. I feel that the love triangle hasn't really kicked in yet. He admires SR and the way she's willing to sacrifice herself to save someone she cares about but I don't think he's fully in love yet. He's feeling guilty about being engaged to the girl SY considered his fiancée (+ he's kind of lying to him by omission as per SR's request) but he's not that resentful of SR's feelings for SY yet. Maybe that'll come in this week's episodes? Because I'm pretty sur the opening scene will happen soon. Maybe even at the end of episode 8 on thursday.

I do not have a second lead syndrome yet but I really like Myun as a character. I love PSH and I lap up all the SY angst with relish but I wish Myun had more screentime.

I haven't watched ep 6 yet but can't wait :)

Tbh, all sageuks outside something super-fusion and/or starring a pop star rarely get much play on soompi - online fandom skews young and sageuks are an older viewer's favorite. TPM is doing great in the ratings though.

Yes, I can't see how they will deteriorate. I really like the actor. He was great in Will It Snow Xmas too.

I guess I still remember the Chuno days. Soompi and online communities were pretty active.

But, yeah, it's true that saeguks can have less appeal. TPM is somewhat geared to a younger audience though, I thought it would more popular than that.

But it's great if the ratings are good. I'll go take a look at them, it's been a while since I've ckecked them out. I heard that PSH was hoping for 30%. But it seems hard these days to get past even 22-25%. I hope he gets his wish.

Enjoy episode 6. There's some gorgeous camera work in it + a lot of OTP interraction.

Yeah, I watched ep six and so much love. This drama is amazing.

Yes, I remember Yi San which was seventy eps long and had insane ratings yet barely anyone talked about it and it was subbed with withs2.

There's a preview of episode 7 if you scroll a little farther down here, though the subs are in Chinese. I AM SO EXCITE.

Dialogue, roughly

Seung-yoo: I won't lie to myself anymore, I won't push you away from my heart.
--
Papa Kim: Those of the blood royal should control their greed for power.
King Danjong the woobin : I will do my utmost to rule well. Take care, uncle.
---
Shifty-eyed friend: When did you start meeting SY again? Can't you see that your relationship should no longer permit such a thing?
Se-ryung: Whose command forbids us from meeting? Is it human, or is it the heavens?
---
Suyang: Can you do it? Can you raise your sword to Kim Seung-yoo?
---
Suyang: If we have to kill Kim Jong-seo's entire family, if that were the only way to accomplish my goals... Kim Seung-yoo has to die.
