Grrr, argh argh argh! Anyone who messes with Seven really should die a gruesome death! In some ways, he's my favorite brother because he's really still such a kid and also because he's got the sweetest, kindest, most open personality of the bunch. I wonder if it comes from being the baby of a close and loving family for so long (there's rather a large age-difference between him and Eighth Sis, who I got the feeling was the make-up baby after Yangs thought Four got killed).

It's gotten so bad with my Minister Pan hatred that every time he opens his mouth, I start yelling "shut up shut up shut up" at the screen. WTF, you sick freak, with wanting Seven's head on a platter? If you freako son didn't go on a kidnapping/almost-raping kick and decide to challenge a freaking convalescent to a fight in order to turn him into a cripple in front of a girl who likes him, and also took a bunch of nasty nasty drugs which increased his strength but also had known and bad side-effects (and which you hand-fed to him), your idiot kid would still be walking, to the detriment of everyone in the city. Seven, who only rushed in to protect his brother, has nothing to do with your freak son's death. Stop demanding his head, and go drown yourself, while you are at it. And Emperor - wtf is with the whole "exile you to the border and not to contact your family for two years?" What part of "freak died because of drugs he took and after engaging in heninously inappropriate (and also illegal and immoral) conduct" part do you not understand?

Ugh, someone give me a bazooka so I can take out all the idiot court except for the Yangs and Eighth Prince.

To make self feel better Have the cutest marriage proposal ever. Awww, Four/Lady Doc, you really spoil me )

Seriously, drama, I thought we already had this discussion! Seven is not allowed to have any angst! If you really need to ladle it on someone, give it to Four, he's used to it.

Seriously! WTF!!!! Not only did he get sentenced to exile but he's also in prison before it and Minister Pan *die die die pig* has hired people to kill him in jail! Luckily, Four saved him, but now he has to go on the run????!!!!

This is not what we agreed on! Seven is supposed to stay with his big family and tag after Four and Six plus play around with Eighth Sis, and also meet an adorable girl and hook up with her. NO ANGST. We had a deal!

Not. Acceptable.

I do love that Four, who's been brought up outside the loving and happy Yang family and basically had to fend for himself in the nasty outside world since childhood, is the only one of the Yangs who realizes both that (a) Minister Pan is never going to stop trying to kill Seven and (b) Seven has to go underground because official means would never protect him against someone who is powerful, rich and vindictive enough. Mama Yang is the only one who even thought about Minister Pan's homicidal tendencies, and even there she and Papa Yang thought asking an official to look after Seven was enough when that was clearly not the case, not when the enemy is the PM. The Yangs, minus Four, are too used to their own just world. Plus, there is symmetry that Seven saved Four's life and now Four is saving Seven's. (I love Yang family but I'd prefer a more peaceful way of proving brotherly affections).

In conclusion, yes, I realize I am unhealthily invested.

Also, need sleep. I've been sick and probably will be so for another week and a half (I have surgery scheduled then, thankfully, and my stupid kidney stones can come out once and for all) but on the plus side, less sleep means more dramas.

ETA: Drama, you are clearly having comprehension problems. When I said Four can get angst instead of Seven, I meant instead not in addition to. How hard is it to comprehend? *tears out hair*

Also, what is it with Papa Yang tying up his kids to drag them for imperial judgment? He's done it twice to two different kids in one episode! That's some weird family discipline there. If someone was a bondage fetishist in ancient China, he or she really would make out lucky.

I am a little behind on Jade Palace Lock Heart (OK, a lot behind) due to my obsessive Yang Warriors/Three Kingdoms binge, but I plan to remedy it directly. I just want to save up a number of eps to binge on and am tempted to wait for withs2 high-quality raws to watch them with.

But JPLH is not the only game in town this year when it comes to time-travelling ladies hooking up with Kang Xi's kids. The other contender is the artsy, serious Bu Bu Jiang Xin (well, as artsy and serious as you can get when you are based on an internet novel), starring Mousie's girlcrush Liu Shi Shi as the heroine, Nicky Wu as Fourth Prince (later emperor) and Kevin Cheng as Eighth Prince.

See English-subbed trailer below (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cha_maeri for the heads-up):

If you are, like me, watching and obsessing over JPLH, you have to throw out any JPLH-inspired ideas before approaching BBJX. Despite the similar set-up (lady timetraveller ends up in last years of Kang Xi's reign and gets into a love triangle with Four and Eight), the two stories are vastly different in tone and character interactions. For one, it's not Eight but Four who is the heroine's OTP in this one (though from what I've read he's no bunch of sunshine in this either), but for another this one is supposed to be tragic and grim. It will undoubtedly be more historically accurate in feel (insofar as anything time-travel related can be historical) than JPLH, which is basically a period Hana Yori Dango. I happen to adore Hanadan to bits and love period dramas, so a period Hanadan is about as close to a perfect drama as I can get. But I know Hanadan isn't everyone's cup of tea and this may be more your thing. It is, however, likely not a drama for me.

It all looks very pretty but I don't know - I am spoiled for the novel's plot and it really doesn't seem like my thing. Plus, on a shallow note, Nicky Wu is the male lead and I agree with [livejournal.com profile] cha_maeri, he is a good-looking guy normally but he simply cannot carry off the Qing hairstyle the way Feng Shao Feng in JPLH or even his costar Keven Cheng in this one do (well, as much as anyone can, that is).

But we'll see. You know I can't stay away from period cdramas even if they lack Hu Ge, Huang Xiaoming or Peter Ho, so I'll likely check this one out.

And one last comment - ladies, if you must time-travel, please please travel to the Qin or Han times, or even Tang or Song. Go to the Warring States era or the 1920s or most any other time period. I don't care, anywhere but the Qing. The hairstyles are so much better!

First, a bit of Eight/Qing Chuan:

And now onto Four. Ah, Four, how I love you. You are an amoral, power-hungry psycho and I long for someone to stab you to death (not that this will ever happen) but in some ways you are my favorite character in JPLH and I can certainly see why you win the dynastic struggle - you are smarter than anyone else around you and more ruthless than most.

Yes, Eight is awesome and my crush (not to mention that Feng Shao Feng somehow looks hot even with the terrifying Qing hairstyle. I have no idea how he manages) and Qing Chuan is a gem of a heroine, being smart and justice-seeking and fearless, and together I ship them rabidly, but ultimately, there is a reason why Four trumps over them both in any conflict. Smart + no scruples = wins every time. I kinda love him.

As you can tell, I restarted Jade Palace Lock Heart and am currently on ep 9 of withs2's subbed version (they are using the DVDs unlike viki which is using aired broadcast so ep 9 of withs2 ends a bit earlier than ep 9 on viki). I am trying to be good and wait for withs2 subs because I can watch such gorgeous quality raws, but chances of my falling off the wagon and binging on viki pretty soon are about 95%.

Some pretty caps from ep 9 )
