You guys, I am so in love with Sunao ni Narenakute - I have finished the episode and if it keeps this up, it's going on my all-time favorites list. I am more of a kdrama girl than a jdrama one, but almost nothing can compare with a jdrama done right.

Before a few comments on second half of first ep (behind cut), I just want to point out that at least two of the five main characters would have legal recourse out of their horrible situations if they were in the United States.

Poor Seonsu. I wanted to go in there and shred that horrible person's face. What kind of boss pours a cup of water on his employee's head and belittles and insults him in front of everyone? This is a textbook case of workplace harassment and racial discrimination as Seonsu is Korean. Hello, lawsuit in the US! He'd win pretty easily, too.

And speaking of textbook, hello Kaoru's situation! This is like an example from a lawbook of what sexual harassment looks like! When your boss tells you she will fire you or demote you if you don't become her boytoy? Case over - though he should probably get some incriminating emails first.

Not to mention Hikaru's situation with her lousy boyfriend refusing to return her calls now that she may be pregnant. She should sue him for child support if she is :)

OK, this drama is making me lawsuit-happy, but seriously, I was watching this and going - GET A LAWYER, LADY AND GENTS! :P

But sadly they live in Japan.

More caps and thoughts of non-litigious nature )

Now that I've checked out all the Spring dramas I planned to except for Yankee-kun to Megane-chan (because I am shallow and will give anything with Narimiya Hiroki at least a staring chance), I have a ranking.

But first a Yankee-kun trailer (it's a drama, I believe based on a manga I read and liked) about a formerly good student who became a delinquent (NH) and a former delinquent and now class president who decides to straighten him out.

Shiiiiip!

Now back to the rankings. I think my ranking in order of preference is:

1. Sunao ni Narenakute
2. Prosecutor Princess - it's fluffy and hilarious and romantic and emo and has a little mystery and I just adore it to ridiculous bits, even more than Cinderella Unni (blasphemy, I know!)
3. Cinderella Unni - excellent drama but it's so emo and everyone is so miserable, I may be putting it on hiatus for a few weeks. It's spring out and also there are stressful things in my own life going on, so I want something more mellow and less melo to buck me up.
4. Oh My Lady - not a masterpiece but I have silly fun watching it
5. Personal Taste - after a rough first 4 eps, gotten better and is pretty enjoyable now, with a bit of judicious fast-forwarding.

Now that I am Legend has been rushed into production for a May broadcast, I keep wondering who they are going to cast as the male lead opposite Kim Sun Ah? This is such a rush job they don't really have the time to look around.

Unless they are going for a younger man storyline, their leading guy has to be over 30 and I can't think of anyone who'd fit.

People like Kang Ji Hwan (it would actually be pretty interesting to see them together), Gong Yoo, Song Seung Heon, Cha Seung Won, Kwon Sang Woo, Song Il Gook, Park Shi Hoo, Ji Sung etc are all either doing dramas now or will be doing dramas or movies shortly and thus can't take on another one. A whole bunch of actors who'd be suitable are in the army. I honestly can't think who is left. This is completely random but Park Yong Ha is age-appropriate and has no drama coming up. But other than him I can't come up with anyone. Maybe Lee Sung Jae or Park Shin Yang (but the latter is banned by the studios). Hmmm.

Guesses? Suggestions?

I am horribly curious.

I am laughing so hard it's causing spasms.

This is from a SI movie Dhool and the subtitles aren't a spoof - no, it's literally grandma singing how awesome her grandkid is as he kicks a bunch of thugs' faces in.

OMGOMG brb dying.

In honor of my huge Tamil/Telugu movies shipment coming in today :) This movie, needless to say, is not among them.

Trailer for Tsuki No Koibito (Moon Lovers) i.e. KimuTaku does a romance drama again, thank God!

I am so hyperventilating for this, it's not even funny. Kimura Takuya, Shinohara Ryoko, Matsuda Shota, Kitagawa Keiko and Liu Xu Mei in a love story. YES PLEASE.

Is it May yet?

The Dalek in WW2 ep of this seaon of Doctor Who is the first time I didn't dislike this season. Figures - it wasn't written by Moffat.

I still find Amy completely not interesting - more like a TV fantasy of what a quirky girl should be than a relatable human being (compare to Rose, Donna, and to a lesser degree Martha). Even her prettiness is perfect-actress prettiness. She is a construct, not a person. But then Eleven isn't particularly working for me emotionally either. When he was doing his Dalek-related meltdown, I was very much not interested. I suppose I don't want to throttle him, the way I did in the first ep with his shenanigans about food. That's something.

The reason I loved Russell T. Davies' Who was because these people and their relationships and reactions felt real. Sure, aliens taking over London or planets being towed, or the very existence of a near-immortal time traveller are not realistic. But the characters' reactions to these impossibilities, their emotions, were. I was invested. I cared for Nine/Ten's happiness, I cared for what happened to companions and other people he came across. I keep hearing that RTD's years weren't very Who. But I was never a Who fan to start with. RTD was the first time I have ever felt even slightly motivated to check the show out. For all I know the fandom is right and Moffat is a lot more on track with what classical Who is. But if that is the case - he may be in line with what classic Who was or what fandom wants. But it's not what I want, not what works for me. What I like is the RTD version. If it's not much like classic Who, all that means is that classic Who and I aren't meant to be buddies. And neither am I and Moffat's show apparently.

I will likely keep watching the season - Mr. Mousie enjoys it and it makes a nice together activity. But if it wasn't for that, I wouldn't even think twice about it because what this new show is, for me, is utterly and completely forgettable.

I thought RTD's first season was the best science fiction can be - explore what it meant to be human and the implications of trauma and time travel and everything. S2 continued that even if not as brilliantly, but still remarkably well. S3 and 4 were uneven but when they were good, they were amazing. Specials (i.e. truncated S5) rather bored me. But sadly, Moffat's reign looks to make those specials wonderful to me in comparison.

From the previews for next week it looks as if they are bringing back River Song. *groan*
