Family Honor 29

I pretty much sniffled my way through the whole ep because DA and KS are so miserably destroyed.
Grah. I don't blame KS for going ahead and being filial and doing what his parents want even if it's against what he wants and needs and also against what he knows to be right. But the thing is, it is destroying him (his self-loathing, desperate desire to go back to being a beast and stop pretending he's a man, or the way he wants to have been someone else - the man who met DA when they were kids - ouch) and his father doesn't seem to notice at all, he's so caught up in his own views and plans for glory (I let Mom off the hook because if she has more than three braincells, I'll be stunned). His father can't fathom someone having different feelings or morality or anything outside his own and he basically sees KS as a younger clone of himself, while KS is his own person, in many ways very different from his father. Dude, pay attention! If your normally neat-freak son comes home drunk out of his mind daily, maybe you shouldn't be 'oh, I guess the merger is hard work', maybe you should inquire further. You lost one child, as good as lost another, you only really have one left.
Also, this dialogue btw DA and KS made me bawl. They are such adults (I know I keep saying this, but I keep wondering because this is so rare in kdramas).
KS: I have something to return. [gives her back her childhood photo] I said I'd give it back when the game was over. Goodbye.
DA: Why do you look so frail? Are you still not eating and sleeping well?
KS: Why are you so foolish? You know the things I'm doing to your family. Why would you care about how I look?
DA: If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have suffered. If I weren't their daughter, you could've just hunted your prey as you always have.
KS: You're apologizing for being Daeseong's daughter? And that I can't hunt without holding back? Do you even know what I did to you? I asked you to
go out with me while I was planning to take down your family's company. I dragged you around and did only the things I wanted.
DA: But I could smile. Even when you were dragging me along, I smiled a lot. So although I knew what you were doing, I was worried about you. You look so frail.
KS: Don't be so foolish. I can't put you on the same scale with my parents. I can't check to see who's more important to me.
DA: I know, and that's why I couldn't stop you. So I'm sorry that I couldn't
stop you even when you asked.
KS: Even if you had, nothing would've changed. So don't feel sorry for me.
DA: Go, and do the things that you don't want to do.
KS: I shouldn't say this. If I say this, then I'll be doing you wrong again. But I'll say it anyway. If I just keep it to myself until I die, then it might never end. When you were 10, why couldn't it have been me who picked up your shoe at the stream? I think about that. For the first time in my life, I wanted to be somebody else. That's all. It's really over now. Now I can really focus on hunting again.
Oh, and at the end, when she is sick and he stays outside her house all night. OMG.

Date: 2011-08-19 05:52 am (UTC)Anyway, I agree with you on the fact that they are both so adult. That's rarely found in a kdrama unless the drama is IRIS or Bali, and even those are extremely dysfunctional. It's so nice to see both leads as adults and not whining babies.
