Something Happened in Bali...
Apr. 19th, 2007 09:23 amBecause I finished one drama, I allowed myself to start another. The choice? Something Happened in Bali, that delicious Korean concoction of hot people, love quadrangles, exotic locations and angst.
Barely 30 minutes in, and I heartily approve of it for the following reasons:
1. How can you not love the drama which opens on the hero (Jo In-Sung) in bed with some random floozy, groggily waking up to a cellphone call which indicates he has to meet his fiancee for ring-shopping. Arranged marriages are clearly fun.
2. His fiancee's reaction to him? 'I don't love you either.'
3. The other guy in the triangle is So Ji-Sub. We have just met him and I already heartily approve. Two words: Lickable. Hipbones. Seriously, when we first meet him, he is not wearing much. Considering JIS also started the drama half-dressed, the authors know what they are doing.
4. None of the three characters I met so far (haven't yet met the heroine) are likeable. I like the other guy character the best so far but none of them are shining beacons of wonderfulness. But they are totally interesting and entertaining. Plus, the thought of the hero in love is mind-boggling (especially as desperately in love as he is going to get) and I cannot wait to see how he'd get there.
So?
Fun.
OK, for those who want to know the plot, click on my shib tag, or here is a quick one.
Jae-Min (Jo In-Sung) is wealthy but troubled, arrogant and irresponsible. He is in an arranged engagement with the icy Young-Joo (Park Ye-Jin) but neither of them care for each other. As a last gasp for freedom before marriage (which she fully intends to commit to, told you these people weren't sweethearts), Young-Joo seeks out her ex-boyfriend In-Wook (So Ji-Sub) for a last fling. In-Wook and Young-Joo arrive in Bali to be greeted by Jae-Min. Due to a quick-thinking lie a disaster is averted and the ill-assorted trio end up going on a tour together. Their tour-guide? The poor, plucky (and troubled) Soo-Jung (Ha Ji-Won) who is actually searching for a wealthy man to be her Prince Charming. But she didn't really count on the handful that is Jae-Min.
Here is the Jae-Min/Soo-Jung MV I posted earlier which got me interested. It's spoilery but the ott angst is much too fun and worth reposting :D
( heeeeeee...glycerine by the pound )
