OK, so far the second season of Roswell is making the first one seem like a light comedy, angst-wise.
I was bawling last night.
The thing is Liz tries so hard to stay detached and not to respond to Max, because she believes it won't happen and she can save both of them further grief, but you can tell she still loves him and wants him, and is still deadly jealous of Tess (because she hasn't really given up on him. Her common sense and her heart are at odds).
And it's just so hard for her, especially when Max is there, desperately trying to woo her back, and being serious and sweet and never giving up. (I love the image one of her throw-away sentences conjures, of Max coming up to her balcony and trying to convince her to get back together). And then of course she goes to the psychic at Maria's insistence and psychic tells her that the boy is true love and they will be "intimate" and get married and it's forever etc etc etc. And it breaks your heart to see her just bloom. No scene in the show reminded me of Romeo & Juliet more than when she is at home, at her mirror, trying on a lacy white veil-like thing and saying to herself "I, Liz Parker take Max Evans."
( Max, Liz, The End of the World, and why don't you twist the knife a little more, please. )
( Isabel, Michael/Maria and Max/Liz (yes, again) )

More Roswell: Yet more angst
Aug. 12th, 2005 12:02 pmMore on Roswell. You know, in most shows I go to fanfic for h/c. Not in this one. There is so much angst here, I'd need fluff to read.
Of all the characters on Roswell, I feel the sorriest by far for Max. Liz is also heartbroken, but at least she knows all the facts, she knows Max loves her etc etc.
As to Max? He must be near collapse level. It’s doubly hard for him, not just because Liz is his OTP and he loves her truly madly deeply blah blah, but because he did put her on a pedestal, and (as far as he knows) she has gone and slept with Kyle, not even someone she is in love with, just for the heck of it.
( Max or I need antidepressants, stat. )
( Michael, Maria and Isabel. Oh yeah, and Tess and Courtney )

Aug. 12th, 2005 04:29 pmEnded up watching a Family Guy episode on cartoon network yesterday. It's a show I enjoy (own the DVDs and all), even though I loathe every character on it. I went from a horrified "they are saying what?" to "hilarious." I think I just needed something to cheer me up after the Roswell angst. It's rather interesting, because I generally don't like shows that don't involve me emotionally, but if it's in cartoon form (Futurama, Family Guy, Drawn Together) it becomes somehow OK. In fact I don't like serious cartoons. I wonder why.
In other news, I bought a Dido CD that had the Roswell theme song. Yeah, I am a goner. Also thinking that forcibly tying Liz and Max together and making them talk it out would be sooo good. At least for me :) I know Future Max was trying so hard because Future Liz wanted him to, and he didn't want her sacrifice to be in vain, and you could tell it was killing him, but guuuuuuh. They should take a page from Michael and Maria's book and just have a fight, not shut down. That way it might end up in kissing. Of course, Max would be perfectly willing and it's Liz who is keeping away (she didn't tell him about still getting flashes when he touches her). I know she is being noble and all, but come on, selfishness is good! I'd just take the 14 years of happiness and let the world go hang. But then of course, that is the catch-22, as if Liz was that kind of girl, Max wouldn't be in love with her in the first place. I do hope he finds out sometimes why she did what she did (don't spoil me!).
In other news, I am reading Dan Simmons' "Endymion Rising" which is the last part of a scifi quartet and so far is the best of the ones I've read. It's excellent and even though it has a sex scene, mercifully avoids 'velvety tips' and what not of the other book by some deranged woman I was reading earlier.
Also, I am seeing "The Rising" this weekend. And trying hard to stay away from Serenity pictures.

Aug. 12th, 2005 08:52 pmBSG is on in an hour. Yay! SciFi ads make me laugh. How could anyone resist "Alien Express," where scifi kindly informs us that "every car is a meal car."
On the negative side of things, the S2 of Roswell I bought from Borders is missing Disc 3. I am going to try to exchange it tonight because there is no fury like an addict deprived. :D
ETA: Amazon the Wonderful just delivered S2 & 3. So I can just get a refund for the fluke one...*injects TV crack*
ETA 2: Spoilers for BSG 2.06 in replies
