Ranty McRant on Heartstrings ep 6

We have just ended ep 6 of a 16 ep drama and Shin is STILL hung up on weepy and they have a hug at the end? WTF! It's one thing when a drama is long - East of Eden did not even have its main couple meet until ep 6, but EoE was close to 60 episodes, it had this luxury. It also, had a lot of plots to occupy one's attention while waiting for romantic stuff but Heartstrings is a drama whose main topic is romance, so where is it?
Sure, there are plenty of romcoms where hero pines for someone else and not the heroine for a while but even in those the writers give the bulk of drama's interactions to the main couple (let's face it, romcom or romantic melodrama, most people watch those to see romantic interactions between the leads). You can also tell the doofus male half of the couple is drawn to heroine and has plenty of gorgeous moments with her even if he's too dense to know what they mean (Goong, My Girl, Chunhyang).
And that is the bigger problem here - it may be common for hero to think he likes someone else at this stage, but it's not common for otp to have so little genuine romantic epic interaction which makes his love for heroine plain to us if not yet to him. And when you think how much chemistry PSH and JYH have, it seems almost perverse!
I haven't seen that many annoyed people on the soompi thread since Powerful Opponents ended :)

You're right about other dramas. Although I do not like the hero in love with someone else at the start of a drama, when it happens we usually get plenty of scenes between the hero/heroine that scream at us OTP! OTP! OTP!
On another note, I've just finished watching City Hunter 15. I have no words. It keeps getting better. Heatbreak territory straight ahead though. I'm getting really nervous for YS. If he successfully has his revenge only to die of leukemia (Mom's case + exposure to the chemicals are very worrying), I'll never watch another Kdrama before knowing for sure that it ends happily. I have ep 16 RAW downloaded but I'll try not to watch it before the subs come out tomorrow.

Though, I do find in "pining" dramas that things tend to turn around and go full out around episode 8 so if they're not there by then, I'll really start to worry.

I really like myung wol she's so cute yet badass at the same time, I hope gang woo finds out she's a spy BEFORE she falls in love with him, so they can have hijinks together and then fall in love that way, otherwise it might be annoying since gang woo is so into himself. plus i want him to be wowed by myung wol the action heroine! I hope we get more action scenes as the show progresses, the ones we've seen so far are pretty exciting. overall its alot of fun but not like laugh out loud hilarious (which was more what i was hoping for tbh)

Date: 2011-07-15 04:15 am (UTC)Usually the hero becomes angry at the heroine for a misunderstanding, both of them are fighting, or it's a "you can't be near me for your own good thing." But Shin was downright horrible to her. I wanted the heroine to be mad at him not because he didn't like her, but because he was downright nasty and rude to her.
Yeah he was upset about the dance teacher but he should not have snapped at her like that. And he wasn't even all that emotional; it was more like he couldn't care less if she disappeared off the face of the planet. Ughhh. Say what you will about You're Beautiful but the OTP had done of moments together. Also, the hero got mad at her but you could see why he would be angry at times. And it was more short lived than anything.
May still watch to see if other singing guy becomes secondary lead. But if nothing else in the OTP department is happening or other storylines it will probably be dropped.

Date: 2011-07-16 02:43 am (UTC)I still love the location shoots , the color palette used plus i love park shin hye so i'm still watching and praying they overhaul her character maybe same during the first episode and not like a sick stalker puppy who's so beholden of shins could have been the moment everyone was waiting for but to our disappointment the writer chose the dance teacher instead to share that heart wrenching scene with shin. The writer took away our excitement when shin took away GW's instrument to carry it for her after they quarreled and then shared that quiet moment with their palm face up feeling the raindrops which i found so peaceful, too bad!! I will still watch the show for the lovely scenery , color palette and because I love park shin hye. I'm just hoping they overhaul her character and maybe same when the episode first started and not the love sick stalker girl she is currently.
