Warrior Baek Dong Soo - Mousie considers eating crow yet again

I wonder - is 2011 turning into the year which will teach me that my favorite pastime of jumping to conclusions about dramas before they air is, in fact, wrong? Say it ain't so! First we had Secret Garden (which I thought looked dull from promos, and then I watched and fell in love), then City Hunter (trainwreck promos, amazing drama) and now possibly Warrior Baek Dong Soo?

Much as I adore sageuks, I was not going to check out this one - the cast seemed too young and none of the male leads were familiar to me except Yoo Seung Ho who, at 17, gave me shudders as one of the main leads of a sageuk, which is, in retrospect, ironic. Plenty of sageuk characters are young men. It's just I am so used to sex gods actors who play them be a good 10+ years older than their on-screen age, see Song Il Gook in Kingdom of the Winds and Bae Yong Joon in Legend, two dramas I adore, that when an actual 17-yr-old plays a 17-yr-old it feels weird.

Anyway, I was not planning to check it out but then momosan liked it and then I saw the 6-min trailer:

But still, am a little unsure, as old prejudices die hard, so a poll for my flisties.

Oh my GOD! It looks amazing! Is the girl with the sword the female lead? I really hope so since it would be so nice to see another girl kick ass alongside her man like Nana in City Hunter!

I looks good but.... I can't bring myself to watch it! It's Yoo Seung Ho's fault!! I know I am unreasonable but he is just so young and baby-like.

Plus, I found out that Kim Bum was considered for the role but YSH was picked instead and it just made me dislike him more!

I will probably keep track of it through recaps.

Yoo Seung Ho is the bad guy... you might love to hate him... You already do :D

In the beginning Yoo Seung Ho was the lead ... so I doubt that it was Kim Bum's role.... and the main lead accepted the role because of the money ... so I doubt that they skipped Kim Bum in favor of Ji Chang Wook .... a sitcom actor

A tough girl with a sword? who really can yield the sword properly?Bring it on... coz this was my main disappointment in Queen Seon Deok... that DeokMan wasn't able to fight with it

I like the look of warrior baek do, now normally i am not one for sageuks or taigas or what have you cause they are usually 1. very long. 2 very serious 3 full of old people. this one has the requisite old bearded dudes but it has some fresh youngsters too. plus that girl looks awesome! its a fusion right? I liked SKK so I might like this one too. now if only a subbing team would pick it up.

I read Girlfirday's "First Impressions" post about it over on Javabeans yesterday and I've decided to give it a try. I've already downloaded the first 2 episodes. Looks like it'll only be 16 episodes too (seems a bit short for a saeguk though)so it's not as if I'd signed up for 60 hours + of uncertain material. The saeguk I was really looking forward to was The Princess' Man but I wouldn't say no to a second one. If one of them suck, I'll have the other one to fall back on.
